Skincarisma for Acne-Prone Skin

How to Use Skincarisma to Select the Right Products for Acne-Prone Skin

Finding the right skincare and cosmetic products while having Acne-Prone skin is a frustrating pursuit.

When dealing with Acne-Prone skin, it’s crucial to use products that have proven ingredients to fight acne and more importantly avoid products that can potentially trigger more acne.

You may have even experienced purchasing an “acne-fighting” skincare product only to find out break you out even further.

And if you've wondered why, it's because most of the time, it comes down to its ingredient formulation.

But, here’s the good news.

Skincarisma makes it easy for you to quickly understand a skincare or any cosmetic product by providing a simple way to understand the entire formulation so you can make better decisions for your skin (and wallet - less wasted products!).

Here's exactly how Skincarisma can help with Acne-Prone skin:

On each product or cosmetic analyzer results page, the one section you should pay attention to is the Product Overview section as seen below:

Let’s go through the important parts of it to see how we can understand if a product is suitable for Acne-Prone skin. We strongly recommend not skipping any parts of it because it could make all the difference in finding the right products.

The product overview provides a quick summary of the ingredient formulation. Skincarisma’s analyzer technology has done all the hard work for you so you don’t necessarily have to dive into the full ingredient list and understand each ingredient one by one (although we at times we still recommend to!).

Within the product overview section there are two parts to pay attention to - Notable Ingredients and Ingredients Related to Skin Type:

Notable Ingredients

This part shows you all the potential effects a product has based on it containing well-proven ingredients behind the effect.

This is helpful for those looking for a product to fight Acne. We recommend looking for the Acne-Fighting badge. It will be shown if the product has AT LEAST 1 well-demonstrated acne fighting ingredient. You can see the ingredient responsible for it on the right of it.

If a product claims to fight acne, then check on Skincarisma to see if the badge comes up. Popular acne-fighting ingredients include:

That being said, here’s an important note:

If you are dealing with acne, it is not necessary to have all your products in your skincare routine to have the acne-fighting badge. Some acne-fighting ingredients when used at too high of a concentration or frequency can be quite harsh, drying and irritating on the skin which could further lead to Acne and other skin issues.

Ingredients Related to Skin Type

Our next section shows the number of ingredients which are either good or bad for skin types.  The good ingredients are shown in green and bad ingredients are shown in red.

This section is useful to see which products to avoid.

For acne-prone skin, we always look at the Oily Skin section as it will show ingredients that are comedogenic which is incredibly useful in quickly spotting out ingredients in a product that can potentially cause acne.

Comedogenic ingredients are those that have a likelihood of blocking your pores. Blocked pores are the very beginning of acne (pimples, blackheads, whiteheads & etc.) forming, which is why it's important to pay attention comedogenic ingredients and avoid them to prevent exacerbating the problem!

The comedogenic rating is done on a scale from 0-5 that rates the potential of it clogging/blocking your pores, with 0 being least likely and 5 being most likely.

On Skincarisma, any ingredient that has a comedogenic rating of over 2 will be shown as "Bad for Oily Skin" in this section.

If you’d like to see the full ingredient list, then you can click on the ingredient list section.

For the ingredients with comedogenic ratings, you’ll also be able to find them here.

By avoiding products that have too many highly comedogenic ingredients, you won’t end up wasting your hard earnt cash on products that have a high chance of breaking you out!

Recap:

It’s that simple using Skincarisma for those with Acne-Prone skin. Here are the two main points to remember:

  1. Acne-fighting badge means product contains a proven Acne-fighting ingredient
  2. Avoiding products with too many ingredients that are bad for Oily skin, aka high Comedogenic ratings to decrease the chance of a product breaking you out.
