BTS's makeup artist used, so I gave it a shot

Jungkook's makeup artist was seen applying this on his face between concert segments. K-pop makeup artists have the unique challenge of retouching looks while their client is constantly sweating off their face. In the video segment, the makeup artist is applying this over a full face with a very small lip brush. And that is what this is perfect for: retouching blemishes and discoloration for that perfect photofinish.

Pros: This is a buildable, blendable, mixable, and portable compact that's a dream to apply over makeup you already have. My mom is a makeup artist for the film industry, and I have watched her burn through products trying to make pores impervious to the scrutiny of a camera. Anyone who wears a full face knows that once you mess up a part of your foundation, repairing it almost invariably creates a kind of fresco patch where the old "paint" meets the new. Say hello to Secret Camouflage, the perfect concealer to layer over discoloration and blotchiness to give the illusion of a more even skintone, without caking on more layers.

Cons: the formula does not melt. Don't even try it. Hot water will just dilute your application. Though it goes on creamy, this is a densely pigmented concealer that works almost like an oil paint. I recommend using a lip brush (I use muji's mini lip brush for extra precision) and treating this concealer like a lipstick - don't ever try to warm it with water, it will either bead up or become thin. This formula is NOT meant for all over or even large concealing. If my suggestion of the lip brush is any indication, the secret camouflage pallet is tiny because it for tiny fixes. Perfect for evening acne scars and discolored bumps, but beyond that, it just isn't pliable enough and the formula is way too dry for large areas.

Final thoughts: There's a saying that goes, "if a kitchen appliance can only be used for one thing, don't buy it." This is true of many consumer products: most people say the quality is in how versatile a makeup product is - if you can use it for multiple things, it's all the more valuable. Secret Camouflage is NOT a such a product. It's finicky to apply, not recommended for those new to makeup, and it's not necessarily the best for your skin (though you apply so little that it really doesn't make a difference). To some, it's limitations may be a deal breaker. But to those of us who are just a HAIR away from a film-ready look, for those of us who work long hours and can't redo our entire face, for those of us who are sensitive to the discoloration which the zoom of a camera may reveal, this is the product of products that evens the playing field for that flawless skin look.

Risky but effective

I have used this in the past and as far as effectiveness goes- this is one of the best! It's a matte finish (so make sure to have skin moisturized) and looks so natural. The problem is that it has retinyl palmitate, which in the presence of sunlight, may speed the development of skin tumors and lesions. Banned in Germany and restricted in Canada. This is according to EWG. It also increases your vitamin A which may be bad for you if you get too much. Many foods (in US) are fortified with vitamin A like cereal, milk, liver, fish oil. So maybe you can use this if you would only wear it at night? Or if you're like me and don't consume cereal, milk, or liver. I do take fish oil from time to time. Then there is diethylene glycol, which limited evidence may show that it can be toxic to your kidneys. It's a 5 on EWG. Restricted in Japan and Canada. Not sure what to think about this one....so yea, it's risky. Wish Laura Mercier would make this without those 2 ingredients- then I would never stop buying it!
