I needed some setting powder before a concert, so I ran into a make-asobi in LA. This powder is a tinted finishing/setting powder that goes on very light and makes your skin very soft. It evens your makeup job, blends it out a bit, and makes it a bit more matte. The applicator is a flat powder puff, which would definitely not be my choice for a loose powder like this. Sometimes I switch to a brush if I really feel like I need to pack it down. I do feel like if you don't use a cushion and you apply a full face with foundation, this may not hold your face as well as straight up white finishing powder. I don't feel as "baked" with this on.
I always feel a bit of a tingling sensation when my skin has a bad reaction to makeup, and I do feel that slightly with this product. But I always ignored it, thinking Shiseido is heralded as primarily a skincare brand, so of course their makeup wouldn't be unhealthy for my skin, right? But looking at the ingredient list, I think I may be reacting to some of the many acne-triggering ingredients in this powder. In time I may switch it, but so far it hasn't caused a noticeable reaction. At any rate, I paid $30 for it, so I'd like to make use of it, if I can.
As a bit of side note, the girl who suggested this to me was Japanese, and it's a good thing I learned the language for 6 years -- because she no idea what I was talking about when I asked for setting powder. She told me setting powder is apparently very rare in Asian cosmetics because people typically don't do full coverage. Interesting. After talking in circles for a while, she finally pulled a few choices that all seemed to be dual functioning products that were both tinted & setting powder. I know now to look in western stores for more comprehensive, photofinish powder.
