Safety & compatibility

SAFE
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding — Use with Caution

Contains chemical UV filters (Ethylhexyl Triazone, DHHB, Tinosorb S, Mexoryl SX, Polysilicone-15). While no retinoids, salicylic acid, or hydroquinone are present, some dermatologists recommend mineral sunscreens during pregnancy. Consult your healthcare provider.

Not Fungal Acne (Malassezia) Safe

Contains potential fungal acne triggers: Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, and Propylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate. These fatty acid-derived ingredients may feed Malassezia yeast.

Low Comedogenic Risk (1/5)

Despite containing Cetearyl Alcohol and Glyceryl Stearate, the overall formulation is lightweight and non-greasy. Most users report no breakouts or clogged pores.

Fragrance-Free & Hypoallergenic

No added fragrances, parabens, sulfates, or common allergens. Free of drying alcohols. Well-tolerated by sensitive skin types.

Retinol & Vitamin C Compatible

Can be layered over retinol (PM routine) and Vitamin C (AM routine). Niacinamide in the formula complements both actives well. Always apply sunscreen as the last skincare step.

AHA/BHA Compatible

Safe to use with chemical exfoliants. In fact, daily SPF is essential when using acids. Apply sunscreen after exfoliants have absorbed fully.

Not Available in the US via FDA-Approved Channels

Contains UV filters (Uvinul T 150, DHHB, Tinosorb S, Mexoryl SX) that are approved in the EU, Korea, Japan, and Australia but not yet FDA-approved. Available to US customers through K-beauty retailers.

Patch Test Recommended for Very Sensitive Skin

While the formula is gentle and calming, individuals with very reactive or easily irritated skin should always patch test behind the ear or on the inner wrist before full-face application.

Dot the product across your forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin. Gently spread and pat until absorbed evenly. For an extra smooth finish, try applying with an air puff or beauty sponge.

4

Reapply Every 2–3 Hours

Frequently asked questions

FAQ

Use with caution. Frankly Cicahae Sun is a chemical sunscreen containing five UV filters (Ethylhexyl Triazone, Mexoryl SX, DHHB, Tinosorb S, Polysilicone-15). While it does not contain retinoids, salicylic acid, or hydroquinone, some healthcare providers recommend mineral/physical sunscreens (zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) during pregnancy and breastfeeding as a precaution. Always consult your OB-GYN or dermatologist before use.

No, this product is not considered fungal acne safe. It contains several potential Malassezia triggers including Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, and Propylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate. These are fatty acid-derived emollients and emulsifiers that can feed the Malassezia yeast responsible for fungal acne. If you have active fungal acne, consider FA-safe alternatives like COSRX Ultra-Light Invisible Sunscreen.

Yes. This sunscreen is compatible with all common actives. Use retinol in your PM routine and apply Cicahae Sun in the AM for daily protection (retinol increases sun sensitivity, making SPF essential). Vitamin C can be applied in the morning before sunscreen for added antioxidant protection. When using AHA or BHA exfoliants, allow them to absorb fully before applying sunscreen. The niacinamide in the formula works synergistically with all of these actives.

This sunscreen is best suited for oily, combination, and normal skin types. Its lightweight, non-greasy lotion texture absorbs quickly without adding shine, making it ideal for oily and combination skin, especially in humid climates. Sensitive skin types benefit from the fragrance-free formula and soothing Centella complex. Dry skin types may find it too lightweight on its own and should layer it over a richer moisturizer.

UV protection is immediate from the first application. You will notice comfortable, non-greasy wear and hydration from day one. Within 1–2 weeks of daily use, the triple hyaluronic acid and Centella complex help improve overall skin hydration and reduce redness. After 3–4 weeks, niacinamide begins to show brightening effects and more even skin tone. Consistent use over 2–3 months, combined with overall sun protection, helps reduce fine lines and prevent new pigmentation.

Sunscreen always goes as the very last step of your morning skincare routine, after cleanser, toner, serum, and moisturizer. Apply before makeup or primer. The order is: Cleanser → Toner → Serum/Essence → Moisturizer → Frankly Cicahae Sun → Makeup (optional). Wait about 1–2 minutes after moisturizer before applying sunscreen for best absorption.

The overall comedogenic rating is 1 out of 5 (low). While it contains some ingredients with mild pore-clogging potential (Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Butylene Glycol), these are present at low concentrations in a lightweight, water-based formula. The vast majority of users, including those with acne-prone skin, report no breakouts or clogged pores. If you are extremely clog-prone, patch test on a small area first.

The recommended Period After Opening (PAO) is 12 months. Once opened, use within one year for optimal efficacy and safety. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. If you apply the recommended two finger-lengths daily (about 1.2ml per application), a 50ml tube will last approximately 5–6 weeks with face-only use, or 3–4 weeks including neck application. Check for any changes in color, texture, or smell before use.

— Skincarisma verdict
4.5 / 5 ★★★★★

Verdict: Frankly Cicahae Sun SPF 50+ PA++++ is an outstanding daily chemical sunscreen that punches well above its price point. With five next-generation UV filters, a full Centella Asiatica complex, triple hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and adenosine — all in a fragrance-free, lightweight formula with zero white cast — it delivers both serious sun protection and genuine skincare benefits. It is particularly well-suited for oily, combination, and sensitive skin types in humid climates. The only notable drawbacks are its small 50ml size, lack of water resistance, and the fact that it is not fungal acne safe. For anyone seeking an affordable, modern-filter K-beauty sunscreen that feels like wearing nothing at all, this is a top-tier choice.

lightbulb What are Notable Effects & Ingredients?

Ever used a product that promised a certain effect but provided no results? It might not have contained any notable ingredients that could have been responsible for that promised effect. It doesn't matter what the marketing or packaging «promises» it can do, if it doesn't contain anything that can help - then the likelihood of it helping is low.

We help you identify key notable ingredients that have been shown to help with effects such as acne-fighting, brightening, UV-protection, wound healing & anti-aging to help you achieve your skincare goals smarter. Please note that different notable ingredients have varying levels of research behind them, some are extremely well proven yet some have mixed research in their efficacy.

muscle Pro Tip Alert!

Just because a product doesn't contain any notable ingredients doesn't mean it's bad. And a product with notable ingredients (or even many) doesn't necessarily guarantee the efficacy of the product performing these effects either. lightbulb What is the Ingredient Safety Breakdown?

Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.

muscle Pro Tip Alert!

EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
