Product Description
Product overview
Ultra Violette Clean Screen SPF 30 is a weightless, fragrance-free gel SKINSCREEN™ engineered for sensitive, breakout-prone and oily skin. A hybrid mineral-organic formulation blending Titanium Dioxide, Tinosorb M (Bisoctrizole) and Uvinul A Plus, it delivers broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection with zero white cast, zero grease and a fresh natural finish that pairs seamlessly under makeup. Enriched with plant-derived Pentavitin (Saccharide Isomerate) for up to 72-hour hydration, this is the calming, acne-friendly SPF for skin that usually hates sunscreen.
Hybrid UV Protection
Combines mineral Titanium Dioxide with next-gen organic filters Tinosorb M and Uvinul A Plus for stable, photostable broad-spectrum UVA + UVB coverage without oxybenzone or octinoxate.
Texture & feel
SENSORYHybrid UV Protection
Combines mineral Titanium Dioxide with next-gen organic filters Tinosorb M and Uvinul A Plus for stable, photostable broad-spectrum UVA + UVB coverage without oxybenzone or octinoxate.
72-Hour Pentavitin Hydration
Saccharide Isomerate (Pentavitin) is a 100% plant-derived humectant that mimics skin's own carbohydrates, bonding moisture to the skin surface for clinically proven 72-hour hydration.
Calming Sensitive Skin Formula
Completely free from fragrance, alcohol, parabens and synthetic preservatives. Titanium dioxide provides soothing mineral protection especially gentle for redness-prone and reactive skin.
No White Cast, Makeup-Ready
Iron Oxides (CI 77491, 77492, 77499) give a subtle skin-tone tint that eliminates white cast. The lightweight gel texture layers flawlessly under foundation without pilling.
Reef-Safe & Eco-Conscious
Free from oxybenzone and octinoxate—the two UV filters most associated with coral reef damage. Made and tested in Australia by an independent, female-founded brand since 2019.
Independently Verified SPF Results
Retested across multiple independent labs accredited by BIPEA, consistently achieving SPF results over 50 despite the SPF 30 label—with additional validation through the SunCert organisation.
Safety & compatibility
SAFEContains two organic UV filters—Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol (Tinosorb M) and Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate (Uvinul A Plus)—which are not yet FDA-approved and lack long-term human pregnancy safety data. The mineral filter Titanium Dioxide is widely considered safe. Consult your OB-GYN or midwife before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
This product is NOT considered fungal acne safe. It contains Polysorbate 60, an ethoxylated sorbitan ester derived from a fatty acid source, which can potentially feed Malassezia yeast. Those with active fungal acne (pityrosporum folliculitis) should exercise caution or choose an alternative without polysorbates.
Rated 1/5 on the comedogenic scale. The formula is deliberately designed to be acne-friendly and non-pore-clogging. Key emollients like Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride rate low (0–2) and Dimethicone is non-comedogenic. The lightweight gel base won't block pores.
No fragrance, no alcohol, no parabens, no synthetic preservatives. Titanium dioxide is one of the gentlest UV filters available and is unlikely to cause eye sting. Scientifically rated "Low Irritation Potential" by skin analysis platform What's In My Jar.
An excellent SPF partner for active ingredient routines. Using retinoids, exfoliating acids or vitamin C makes daily broad-spectrum sunscreen essential. Clean Screen's soothing formula does not interfere with actives and provides critical photo-protection against UV-induced sensitization.
Does not contain oxybenzone (benzophenone-3) or octinoxate (ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate)—the two UV filters most commonly banned in reef-protection zones (Hawaii, Palau, etc.). Suitable for use in environmentally sensitive coastal areas.
Avoid direct contact with eyes. Unlike some chemical-only sunscreens, Titanium Dioxide is much less likely to cause eye stinging, making this relatively comfortable for use close to the orbital bone area. Flush with cool water if contact occurs.
Consult your family physician before applying any sunscreen to infants under 6 months of age. For older children, the gentle, fragrance-free formula makes this a suitable option, but always patch-test first.
Ingredient breakdown
INGREDIENTSTitanium Dioxide 3%Proven
The hero mineral UV filter in Clean Screen. Titanium Dioxide physically reflects and scatters both UVA and UVB rays, sitting on the skin's surface rather than being absorbed. At 3%, it contributes meaningful mineral protection while remaining gentle enough for the most sensitive and redness-prone skin types. Unlike some chemical filters, it does not penetrate skin or cause hormone disruption concerns.
- UV Range: Broad-spectrum UVB + short-wave UVA protection
- Mechanism: Physical reflection and scattering of UV photons
- Skin Safety: Approved for all skin types including sensitive, acne-prone and eczema-prone; does not cause eye sting
- EWG Rating: Rated 1 (lowest hazard) by the Environmental Working Group
Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol (Tinosorb M) 2.25%Proven
Also known as Bisoctrizole, Tinosorb M is a next-generation broad-spectrum UV filter covering both UVA and UVB wavelengths as well as portions of visible light. It is a unique hybrid filter—functioning as both a physical scatterer and a chemical absorber—making it exceptionally photostable (does not degrade in sunlight). It is widely used in European and Australian formulations and is considered one of the most advanced UV filters available globally.
- UV Range: UVA1 + UVA2 + UVB + partial visible light protection
- Photostability: Highly photostable; improves the stability of other UV filters in the formula
- Regulatory Status: Approved in EU, Australia, Canada; not yet FDA-approved for US market
- Skin Feel: Large particle size creates lightweight, non-greasy feel; minimal white cast
Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate (Uvinul A Plus) 1.6%Proven
Uvinul A Plus (DHHB) is a premium oil-soluble UVA filter with excellent stability and a strong focus on protecting against UVA1 radiation—the rays most responsible for premature skin aging and pigmentation. It is photostable, does not generate reactive oxygen species, and does not significantly penetrate the skin barrier, making it one of the safest chemical filters available.
- UV Range: Primarily UVA1 and UVA2; excellent critical wavelength
- Photostability: Highly stable; does not degrade or irritate when exposed to UV light
- Skin Penetration: Minimal dermal penetration; high molecular weight limits absorption
- Regulatory Status: Approved in EU and Australia; not yet FDA-approved
Saccharide Isomerate (Pentavitin) ~1%Proven
A 100% plant-derived (corn-sourced) humectant that closely mimics the carbohydrate fraction naturally found in the skin's stratum corneum. Unlike hyaluronic acid which sits on the surface, Saccharide Isomerate forms a genuine bond with skin proteins, providing clinically validated hydration for up to 72 hours. This is the reason Ultra Violette can claim extended moisturisation in a sunscreen formula.
- Mechanism: Covalently bonds to skin's keratin proteins for prolonged moisture retention
- Clinical Data: Studies show sustained skin hydration improvement at 12, 24 and 72 hours post-application
- Origin: 100% natural, plant-derived from glucose fermentation
- Irritation: Extremely low; suitable for the most reactive skin types
Butylene Glycol ~5–8%Proven
A multifunctional solvent and humectant near the top of the ingredient list, meaning it is present in a significant concentration. Butylene Glycol helps dissolve other ingredients, boosts their skin absorption, adds lightweight slip to the texture and provides gentle hydration without feeling sticky. It also carries mild antimicrobial properties that contribute to formula preservation.
- Function: Solvent, humectant, texture enhancer, penetration booster
- Comedogenicity: Rated 0–1; considered safe for acne-prone skin
- Sensory: Contributes to the fresh, lightweight gel feel of this formula
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride ~3–5%Proven
Derived from coconut oil (or palm kernel oil), this lightweight emollient is the cosmetic industry's benchmark skin-feel ingredient. It creates a silky, non-greasy texture without occlusive heaviness. Critically for acne-prone skin, it rates only 1–2 on the comedogenic scale despite being a triglyceride. It also helps stabilise and solubilise the organic UV filters in the formula.
- Comedogenic Rating: 1–2/5 (low); widely tolerated by acne-prone skin
- Function: Emollient, solvent for UV filters, texture enhancer
- Skin Feel: Creates a dry, non-greasy skin feel distinctly different from heavier oils
Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer ~0.5–1%Proven
A synthetic polymer responsible for the gel texture of Clean Screen. It creates beautifully smooth, cloud-like consistencies in oil-in-water emulsions without tackiness. Evaluated by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel as safe for cosmetic use. Due to its large molecular size, it sits on the skin surface and does not penetrate—making it suitable for sensitive skin.
- Function: Film-forming agent, thickener, rheology modifier
- Skin Penetration: Negligible; large molecular weight prevents absorption
- Use Level: Typically 0.5–1.2% in formulations
Glycerin ~1–2%Proven
One of skincare's most well-researched humectants, glycerin is naturally found in skin and has an excellent safety and efficacy profile. It pulls moisture from the environment into the skin and has been shown in a 2016 study to outperform AHAs and hyaluronic acid as a standalone humectant. It also possesses antimicrobial and antiviral properties, supporting skin barrier integrity.
- Comedogenicity: Rated 0; suitable for all skin types
- Irritation: Rated 0; extremely well-tolerated
- Source: May be plant-derived (coconut, soy or corn)
Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499) traceProven
These three iron oxide pigments (red, yellow and black) are combined at trace levels to create the subtle skin-neutralising tint in Clean Screen. They serve a dual purpose: eliminating the white cast typical of mineral sunscreens, and providing additional protection against High Energy Visible (HEV/blue) light. Iron oxides are non-toxic, non-allergenic and classified as inorganic colorants by regulatory bodies worldwide.
- CI 77491: Iron Oxide Red – adds warm/pink undertone correction
- CI 77492: Iron Oxide Yellow – contributes to neutral skin-matching tone
- CI 77499: Iron Oxide Black – provides depth and neutralises the chalky white cast
- Bonus: Iron oxides offer additional photoprotection against visible light and HEV light

Where it fits in your routine
ROUTINEApply Clean Screen as the absolute final step of your skincare routine, after moisturiser and before any makeup. Use generously—at least 5 pumps—to ensure full facial coverage including the ears. Reapply every 2 hours when in direct sunlight.
How to use
HOW TO USEComplete Your Skincare Routine
Apply your cleanser, toner, serums and moisturiser as normal. Allow each layer to absorb fully before moving to the next step. Clean Screen is always the last skincare product applied.
Dispense Generously (5 Pumps Minimum)
Pump at least 5 full pumps onto your fingertips or palm. This amount is critical—insufficient sunscreen dramatically reduces SPF protection. Studies show most people apply only 25–50% of the recommended amount.
Dot & Blend Quickly Across Face and Ears
Dot the product across your forehead, cheeks, nose and chin, then blend outward to your ears and hairline. Work quickly as the gel formula sets fairly fast. Avoid the eye area.
Allow to Settle (30 Seconds)
Wait approximately 30 seconds before applying makeup. The formula will settle to a natural, skin-like finish that creates an ideal primer base. There is no need to wait 15–20 minutes as with some chemical sunscreens.
Reapply Every 2 Hours When Outdoors
Sunscreen must be reapplied at least every 2 hours of direct sun exposure, and immediately after swimming or heavy perspiration. Apply Clean Screen on top of makeup without disrupting your base. Use it daily, even indoors—UV rays penetrate glass.
Who is it for?
WHOPerfect for you if:
- You have oily, combination or acne-prone skin that breaks out from most SPFs
- Your skin is sensitive or reactive and you need a fragrance-free, alcohol-free formula
- You dislike the greasy or heavy feeling of traditional sunscreens
- You want a product that doubles as a lightweight moisturiser and makeup primer
- You use retinoids, AHAs or BHAs and need daily broad-spectrum protection

- You have confirmed fungal acne (Polysorbate 60 may be a concern)
- You require SPF 50+ for extended outdoor activities or very high UV index environments
- You have a deeper skin tone and find a single-tint shade too light
- You are in the US and want an FDA-approved chemical sunscreen filter only
Skin type compatibility
SKIN TYPESThe lightweight gel formula absorbs instantly without adding shine or greasiness. The soft matte finish actively controls oil throughout the day—widely praised by oily-skinned users as their holy grail SPF.
Balances well across T-zone and drier cheek areas. Provides enough hydration for dry patches without overloading the oily zone. An ideal daily-wear formula for combination skin types.
Fragrance-free, alcohol-free and preservative-free with a low irritation potential rating. Titanium dioxide is among the gentlest UV filters available. Loved by those who have struggled with every other SPF. Patch test always recommended for very reactive skin.
Specifically designed for acne-prone and breakout-prone skin. Comedogenic rating 1/5. Alcohol-free and fragrance-free to avoid triggering breakouts. Caution for those with confirmed fungal acne due to Polysorbate 60.
The Pentavitin hydration and glycerin provide reasonable moisture. However, very dry skin types may prefer to layer a richer moisturiser underneath or choose a cream-based SPF instead. Works well as a last step on moderately dry skin.
Mineral titanium dioxide provides soothing, anti-inflammatory protection ideal for redness-prone complexions. The formula has been praised for calming existing redness. Always patch test; some rosacea skin may react to propylene glycol.

Budget-friendly alternatives (dupes)
DUPESSimilar SPF 30 hybrid mineral + chemical formula with a sheer, lightweight finish suited to sensitive skin. Contains ceramides for barrier repair. Main differences: uses older-generation chemical filters (Homosalate, Octisalate), no Tinosorb M or Uvinul A Plus, no Pentavitin 72-hour hydration. Widely available at drugstores globally.
French pharmacy favourite with ultra-light fluid texture and higher SPF 50+. Fragrance-free formulation with next-gen UV filters (Mexoryl XL, Tinosorb S). Better choice for high-UV environments. Frequently asked questions
FAQThis requires caution. Clean Screen contains two organic UV filters—Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol (Tinosorb M / Bisoctrizole) and Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate (Uvinul A Plus)—which do not yet have sufficient long-term human safety data for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The mineral UV filter Titanium Dioxide (3%) is widely considered safe in pregnancy. Ultra Violette states that all their products are produced in compliance with cosmetic safety regulations, however they recommend consulting your OB-GYN or midwife before use during pregnancy. If you prefer complete certainty, a pure mineral sunscreen containing only Zinc Oxide and/or Titanium Dioxide may be a safer choice during pregnancy.
No—Clean Screen is generally not considered fungal acne safe. The formula contains Polysorbate 60, which is derived from sorbitan and a fatty acid source, and is commonly flagged on fungal acne safety resources as a potential Malassezia trigger. Polysorbate 60 can act as a food source for the yeast species responsible for pityrosporum folliculitis (fungal acne). If you have confirmed fungal acne, it is advisable to choose a sunscreen that avoids all polysorbates and fatty acid esters. Options like EltaMD UV Clear or Purito Daily Go-To Sunscreen are often recommended as fungal acne safe alternatives.
Yes—and it is strongly recommended that you do. Retinoids, AHAs (glycolic, lactic acid), BHAs (salicylic acid) and vitamin C all increase photosensitivity, making daily broad-spectrum SPF essential to prevent irritation, sunburn and new hyperpigmentation. Apply your actives during your routine as normal, then finish with Clean Screen SPF 30 as the final step. The soothing, mineral-hybrid formula will not disrupt or deactivate your active ingredients. The neutral gel pH is compatible with vitamin C serums. Avoid mixing directly with your sunscreen—always apply in layers.
Clean Screen was specifically formulated for oily, combination, sensitive and acne-prone skin types—the skin types most likely to struggle with sunscreen. The lightweight gel texture absorbs quickly without adding shine, the fragrance-free and alcohol-free formula avoids common irritants for sensitive skin, and the non-comedogenic ingredients (rated 1/5 on the comedogenic scale) make it suitable for breakout-prone skin. Dry skin types can also use it, though they may want a richer moisturiser underneath. It is not the best choice for those with confirmed fungal acne due to the Polysorbate 60 content.
UV protection begins immediately upon application. The Pentavitin (Saccharide Isomerate) hydration is clinically demonstrated to provide measurable skin moisture improvement for up to 72 hours. For visible skin benefits, consistent daily use over 6–12 weeks allows the anti-aging and hyperpigmentation prevention effects of daily sunscreen use to become noticeable—particularly a more even, less discoloured skin tone as new UV damage is prevented and existing post-acne marks are no longer darkened by sun exposure. Users report improved comfort and reduced breakouts within the first week of switching from other SPFs.
Clean Screen is always the final step of your skincare routine—applied after your moisturiser but before any makeup. The correct order is: Cleanser → Toner/Essence → Serums (Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, etc.) → Treatments (Retinol, AHAs, peptides) → Eye Cream → Moisturiser → Clean Screen SPF 30 → Makeup. Ultra Violette recommends using at least 5 pump presses to cover the face and ears adequately. Reapply every 2 hours when in direct sunlight.
Clean Screen rates approximately 1/5 on the comedogenic scale, which is considered low. The formula was intentionally designed to be acne-friendly and non-pore-clogging. Key ingredients like Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride rate 1–2 on the comedogenic scale, Glycerin rates 0, Butylene Glycol rates 0–1, and Dimethicone is non-comedogenic. There are no heavy waxes, lanolin derivatives or highly occlusive oils in the formula. The overwhelming majority of acne-prone users report that Clean Screen does not cause new breakouts. Note: comedogenic ratings are based on individual ingredient tests, and individual reactions can vary.
Clean Screen has a Period After Opening (PAO) of 12 months, indicated by the open jar symbol on the packaging. After 12 months from first opening, the UV filter efficacy may begin to degrade and the formula may become less effective at providing SPF 30 protection. Store below 25°C / 77°F and away from direct heat or sunlight to maximise shelf life. Do not refrigerate. A 75ml bottle used daily at the recommended 5 pumps (approximately 1.5–2g per application) will typically last 2–3 months of regular use.
Verdict: Ultra Violette Clean Screen SPF 30 is one of the most thoughtfully formulated daily sunscreens available for oily, sensitive and acne-prone skin. Its hybrid mineral-organic UV filter system—combining gentle Titanium Dioxide with next-generation Tinosorb M and Uvinul A Plus—delivers reliable broad-spectrum protection in a texture that genuinely feels like skincare, not sunscreen. The Pentavitin (Saccharide Isomerate) inclusion is a meaningful differentiator offering clinically-backed 72-hour hydration. It excels as a makeup primer, sits beautifully under foundation and earns its place as a daily-wear holy grail for those who have historically avoided SPF. The only notable caveats are the absence of fungal acne safety (due to Polysorbate 60), pregnancy guidance requirements for the organic UV filters, and the SPF 30 rating for those wanting 50+ year-round. For its core audience, however, it is an outstanding product. Highly recommended.
Product Overview
Quick product notes are a great way to check if a product is free from commonly avoided ingredients by skincare enthusiasts. These preferences come about for different reasons depending on the ingredient such as personal experiences, sensitivities, health preferences & etc.
Just because a product is not free from a common preference does not mean it's a bad product! You can make a personal decision whether or not you want to use a product that contains these ingredients or not - click the labels of the preference to read more about them.
Quick Product Notes
Ever used a product that promised a certain effect but provided no results? It might not have contained any notable ingredients that could have been responsible for that promised effect. It doesn't matter what the marketing or packaging «promises» it can do, if it doesn't contain anything that can help - then the likelihood of it helping is low.
We help you identify key notable ingredients that have been shown to help with effects such as acne-fighting, brightening, UV-protection, wound healing & anti-aging to help you achieve your skincare goals smarter. Please note that different notable ingredients have varying levels of research behind them, some are extremely well proven yet some have mixed research in their efficacy.
Just because a product doesn't contain any notable ingredients doesn't mean it's bad. And a product with notable ingredients (or even many) doesn't necessarily guarantee the efficacy of the product performing these effects either. There are other factors such as ingredient quality, concentration and formulation that will ultimately determine this.
Be smart and use this as just a starting point for you to make more informed and smarter choices and compare it with reviews to see if the product is right for you

Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.
EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
