Texture & feel
SENSORYGentle Yet Effective Cleansing
Coconut-derived surfactants lift away makeup, sunscreen and pollutants without stripping the skin barrier or causing tightness.
Hydrates While Cleansing
Glycerin locks in moisture during the cleansing process, leaving skin comfortable and hydrated rather than dry or tight.
Mild Exfoliation with L-Lactic Acid
A low concentration of lactic acid gently removes dead skin cells, enhances skin renewal and smooths texture over time.
Post-Procedure Friendly
Formulated to be safe on sensitised skin after professional treatments such as chemical peels, microneedling and laser therapy.
Safety & compatibility
SAFEFree from retinoids, salicylic acid, hydroquinone and chemical sunscreens. Contains only low-concentration lactic acid in a rinse-off formula, which is considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Contains Glyceryl Oleate, an ester of oleic acid (C18 fatty acid), which can feed Malassezia yeast. Not recommended for those with active fungal acne.
As a rinse-off cleanser with no heavy oils or waxes, this product has a very low risk of clogging pores. Suitable for acne-prone skin types.
Free from SLS, parabens, synthetic fragrance and artificial colours. Uses gentle coconut-derived surfactants to minimise irritation risk.
Can be used alongside retinol, vitamin C, AHA and BHA serums as part of a complete routine. Gentle enough not to over-exfoliate when combined with actives.
Tangerine peel oil provides a subtle natural scent and antioxidant benefits. Contains naturally-occurring limonene. Those with citrus allergies should patch test first.
Ingredient breakdown
INGREDIENTSGlycerinProven
A powerful humectant that draws water into the skin, maintaining hydration levels during the cleansing process. In this cleanser, glycerin helps dissolve makeup and impurities while preserving the skin's moisture barrier.
- Function: Attracts and binds water to the skin surface, preventing trans-epidermal water loss during cleansing
- Research: Extensively studied humectant with proven barrier-repair and skin-softening properties
L-Lactic AcidProven
An alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that gently dissolves the bonds between dead skin cells, promoting cell turnover and smoother texture. At the low concentration in this cleanser, it provides mild exfoliation and hydration without irritation.
- Function: Removes dead skin cells, enhances skin renewal, and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and uneven pigmentation
- Hydrating AHA: Unlike glycolic acid, lactic acid also has humectant properties, making it hydrating while it exfoliates
Canadian Willowherb™ ExtractPromising
A patented botanical extract from Epilobium angustifolium, known for its powerful soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. Helps calm redness and irritation while boosting the skin's tolerance to active ingredients.
- Function: Calms reactive and inflamed skin, reduces redness, and supports a clearer complexion
- Active Compound: Rich in oenothein B, a polyphenol with demonstrated anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity
Kakadu Plum ExtractPromising
Native Australian superfruit (Terminalia ferdinandiana) that contains one of the highest natural concentrations of Vitamin C in the world. Provides antioxidant protection and helps brighten the complexion.
- Vitamin C Content: Contains up to 100x more Vitamin C than oranges, offering potent antioxidant defence
- Function: Protects against environmental stressors, promotes radiance and helps calm inflammation
Natural Coconut SurfactantsProven
A blend of Lauryl Glucoside, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate and Coco-Glucoside. These gentle, plant-derived cleansing agents provide a mild lather to remove pollutants, makeup and sunscreen without irritation.
- SLS Alternative: These coconut-derived surfactants are significantly gentler than sodium lauryl sulfate while still providing effective cleansing
- Skin Barrier: Maintains the integrity of the skin's acid mantle and natural moisture barrier during cleansing

ROUTINEUse as the first step in both your morning and evening routine. Double cleanse in the evening if wearing makeup or water-resistant sunscreen.
How to use
HOW TO USEDampen Your Skin
Wet your face with lukewarm water. Avoid using hot water, which can strip the skin and increase sensitivity.
Dispense & Lather
Pump 2–3 pumps into your hands and emulsify with a small amount of water to form a mild lather.
Massage Gently
Apply to your face in gentle circular motions for 30–60 seconds, covering the forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. Safe to use around the eye area.
Remove & Rinse
Remove with a damp cloth using a gentle sweeping action, or rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Pat dry with a clean towel.
Double Cleanse (PM)
If wearing makeup or water-resistant sunscreen, repeat the process for a thorough second cleanse to ensure all residue is removed.

Skin type compatibility
SKIN TYPESSpecifically formulated for sensitive and reactive skin. Canadian Willowherb soothes irritation and redness. SLS-free and fragrance-free formula minimises sensitisation risk.
Glycerin-rich formula maintains moisture while cleansing. Won't leave skin feeling tight or stripped. L-Lactic acid provides gentle hydration boost.
Balances well across different face zones. May not provide enough oil control for very oily T-zones, but excellent as a morning cleanser or second cleanse.
May feel too mild for those who need strong oil control. Works well as a morning cleanser or second cleanse, but very oily skin may prefer a foaming or gel-based alternative.
Low comedogenic rating (1/5) and gentle formula won't aggravate breakouts. However, not fungal acne safe. Lactic acid provides mild exfoliation to help prevent congestion.

Frequently asked questions
FAQYes. Aspect Gentle Clean is considered safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It contains no retinoids, salicylic acid, hydroquinone or chemical sunscreens. The lactic acid is present at a low concentration in a rinse-off formula, which is not a concern. Multiple Australian stockists confirm its pregnancy-safe status.
No. Aspect Gentle Clean contains Glyceryl Oleate, which is an ester of oleic acid — a fatty acid known to feed the Malassezia yeast responsible for fungal acne. If you have active fungal acne, consider a cleanser with a simpler formula free from fatty acid esters, such as the Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser.
Yes. Gentle Clean is formulated to be compatible with active skincare ingredients. Its mild lactic acid concentration will not over-exfoliate when combined with retinol, vitamin C, AHA or BHA serums. In fact, it cleanses thoroughly enough to provide a clean base for your actives without compromising the skin barrier.
Gentle Clean is ideal for sensitive, dry, dehydrated and reactive skin types. It is also the recommended cleanser after professional skin procedures such as chemical peels, microneedling and laser treatments. While suitable for all skin types, those with very oily or congested skin may prefer Aspect's Purastat 5 Cleanser for stronger oil control.
You will notice immediately softer, more comfortable skin after the first use. Reduced redness and irritation typically become apparent within 1–2 weeks. Smoother texture and a brighter complexion from the lactic acid exfoliation develop over 3–4 weeks of consistent morning and evening use.
Gentle Clean is used as the first step in your skincare routine, both morning and evening. In the evening, you can double cleanse by using it twice — the first pass removes makeup and sunscreen, the second pass gives a deeper clean. Follow with toner, serum, moisturiser and sunscreen (AM).
Gentle Clean has a very low comedogenic rating of 1 out of 5. As a rinse-off cleanser, the ingredients are not left on the skin long enough to significantly clog pores. The formula is free from heavy oils and waxes, making it suitable for acne-prone skin. However, if you are specifically concerned about fungal acne, note that it contains Glyceryl Oleate.
Aspect Gentle Clean has a Period After Opening (PAO) of 12 months. The 100ml pump bottle will typically last approximately 4–6 weeks with twice-daily use (2–3 pumps per use). A 220ml size is also available for those who want it to last longer. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Verdict: Aspect Gentle Clean is a beautifully formulated Australian cosmeceutical cleanser that truly delivers on its promise of gentle yet effective cleansing. The combination of glycerin, L-Lactic Acid, Canadian Willowherb and Kakadu Plum makes it a standout choice for anyone with sensitive, dry or post-procedure skin. It removes makeup thoroughly without any tightness or stripping, and the soothing botanical extracts make it a pleasure to use daily. The main drawbacks are the higher price point compared to drugstore alternatives and the relatively small 100ml bottle size. It is not suitable for those with fungal acne. Overall, if you value clean ingredients, gentle exfoliation and Australian-made quality, Gentle Clean is an excellent investment in your daily skincare routine.

Quick Product Notes
Ever used a product that promised a certain effect but provided no results? It might not have contained any notable ingredients that could have been responsible for that promised effect. It doesn't matter what the marketing or packaging «promises» it can do, if it doesn't contain anything that can help - then the likelihood of it helping is low.
We help you identify key notable ingredients that have been shown to help with effects such as acne-fighting, brightening, UV-protection, wound healing & anti-aging to help you achieve your skincare goals smarter. Please note that different notable ingredients have varying levels of research behind them, some are extremely well proven yet some have mixed research in their efficacy.
Just because a product doesn't contain any notable ingredients doesn't mean it's bad. And a product with notable ingredients (or even many) doesn't necessarily guarantee the efficacy of the product performing these effects either. There are other factors such as ingredient quality, concentration and formulation that will ultimately determine this.

Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.
EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
