02

Safety & compatibility

SAFE
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Use with caution. Kojic Acid is generally considered best avoided during pregnancy. Tranexamic Acid and Alpha-Arbutin have limited pregnancy safety data. Niacinamide, Aloe, and most botanicals are considered safe. Consult your OB/GYN or dermatologist before use during pregnancy or nursing.

Fungal Acne (Malassezia)

Mostly safe. The formula contains Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate (a ferment) which some FA-sensitive skin may react to. The superfood oils (hemp, quinoa, avocado, moringa) are largely low-risk for malassezia. Patch test recommended if highly FA-sensitive.

Sensitive Skin

The aloe-dominant base and absence of synthetic fragrance, harsh alcohols, parabens, and sulfates makes this suitable for most sensitive skin types. The highly stable oil-soluble vitamin C (Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate) does not cause the pH-dependent irritation typical of L-Ascorbic Acid serums.

Acne-Prone Skin

Non-comedogenic (rating 1/5). The formula uses carefully selected non-pore-clogging oils and does not contain pore-blocking ingredients. Tranexamic Acid and Niacinamide also help calm redness and reduce post-acne marks.

Retinol Compatible

Safe to layer with retinol — use retinol at night and Green Machine morning/evening, or use them in separate routines (AM: Green Machine, PM: retinol). The stable vitamin C form will not react negatively with retinol unlike L-Ascorbic Acid.

AHA/BHA Compatible

Contains low-level Lactic Acid (AHA) already blended into the formula. If using additional exfoliating acids (glycolic, salicylic), avoid layering directly on top. Use on alternating days or at different times (morning vs evening) to prevent over-exfoliation.

Fragrance-Free

Contains no added synthetic fragrance or perfume ingredients. The subtle green scent comes naturally from the botanicals (spirulina, supergreens), not from added fragrance compounds. This makes it suitable for fragrance-sensitive individuals.

Sun Sensitivity Note

AHA (Lactic Acid) in this formula can increase photosensitivity. Always follow with a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ in the morning. This is standard practice when using any AHA-containing serum.

Ingredient breakdown

INGREDIENTS

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice ~80% (Base)Proven

The dominant base ingredient replacing water in most of the formula. Aloe vera juice delivers continuous humectant hydration, anti-inflammatory polysaccharides, and soothing salicylates that calm redness and support skin repair. Its base position means all active ingredients are delivered in a soothing, bioavailable medium rather than plain water.

  • Function: Humectant, anti-inflammatory, skin-repairing, wound-healing support
  • Key Compounds: Acemannan, salicylates, polysaccharides, C-glucosyl chromone
  • Evidence: Clinically demonstrated to hydrate, reduce TEWL, and soothe irritated skin
Using aloe as the base instead of water is a formulation upgrade — provides hydration and anti-inflammatory benefits from the first ingredient down.

Tranexamic Acid 4%Proven

A synthetic amino acid derivative that inhibits plasmin activity to reduce melanin overproduction triggered by UV and inflammation. At 4%, this is a clinically effective concentration for visible reduction of dark spots, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Considered one of the gentlest yet most effective brightening actives available.

  • Mechanism: Inhibits plasminogen-keratinocyte interaction, reducing melanin synthesis signaling
  • Clinical Evidence: Studies show 4% TA reduces hyperpigmentation comparably to 3% hydroquinone with significantly fewer side effects
  • Ideal For: Melasma, PIH, sun spots, post-acne marks
4% is considered the gold-standard topical concentration — same level used in clinical dermatology studies showing measurable reduction in pigmentation.

Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (Vitamin C) ~1%Proven

An oil-soluble, highly stable form of Vitamin C that penetrates skin more effectively than water-soluble L-Ascorbic Acid. It converts to active ascorbic acid inside the skin, stimulating collagen synthesis, neutralizing free radicals, and inhibiting tyrosinase (melanin enzyme). Does not oxidize quickly, require low pH, or cause the stinging associated with standard vitamin C serums.

  • Stability: Far more stable than L-Ascorbic Acid — does not yellow or oxidize quickly
  • Penetration: Oil-soluble form reaches deeper skin layers through lipid barriers
  • Benefits: Collagen production support, antioxidant protection, brightening
Ideal choice for sensitive skin or those who react to traditional vitamin C serums. No pH dependency means it works in multi-active formulations without conflict.

Niacinamide ~2%Proven

Vitamin B3 multitasker that inhibits melanin transfer from melanocytes to keratinocytes, evens skin tone, reduces redness, minimizes pore appearance, strengthens the skin barrier, and regulates sebum. At 2%, it provides visible benefits without the flushing that can occur at higher concentrations in sensitive skin.

  • Tone Evening: Blocks melanin transfer pathway independent of production
  • Barrier: Increases ceramide, fatty acid, and NMF production
  • Anti-inflammatory: Clinically reduces redness and blotchiness at 2-5%

Alpha-Arbutin ListedProven

A stable, highly bioavailable glucoside that inhibits tyrosinase activity to reduce melanin formation. Considered a safer, more stable alternative to hydroquinone. Works synergistically with Tranexamic Acid and Kojic Acid in this formula to target hyperpigmentation through multiple pathways simultaneously.

  • Mechanism: Competitive inhibition of tyrosinase enzyme
  • Safety: Well-tolerated, no carcinogenicity concerns unlike beta-arbutin
  • Synergy: Complements Tranexamic Acid and Kojic Acid for multi-target brightening

Kojic Acid ListedProven

A naturally derived compound from fungi and fermented foods that chelates copper required for tyrosinase activation, effectively inhibiting melanin production. Provides antifungal and antibacterial benefits in addition to its brightening action. Works best when combined with complementary brighteners as in this formula.

  • Mechanism: Copper chelation → tyrosinase inhibition → reduced melanin synthesis
  • Additional Benefits: Antifungal, antimicrobial, supports acne management
  • Evidence: Multiple clinical studies confirm efficacy for melasma and pigmentation
Generally best avoided during pregnancy due to limited safety data. Check with healthcare provider if pregnant or nursing.

Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate (Azelaic Acid Derivative) ListedProven

A highly stable, water-soluble salt form of azelaic acid that inhibits tyrosinase activity, reduces inflammation, and provides anti-bacterial properties. Gentler than pure azelaic acid while retaining its brightening and redness-reducing benefits. Particularly effective for rosacea-prone and sensitive skin types.

  • Benefits: Tyrosinase inhibition, anti-inflammatory, reduces facial redness
  • Tolerance: Better tolerated than pure azelaic acid with similar efficacy profile
  • Bonus: Also moisturizing (humectant properties)

Sodium Hyaluronate ListedProven

The sodium salt of hyaluronic acid — smaller molecular weight for better skin penetration. A powerful humectant capable of holding up to 1,000 times its weight in water, drawing moisture from the environment into the skin and maintaining hydration throughout the day. Skin-identical ingredient that supports plumpness and elasticity.

  • Function: Humectant, skin-plumping, barrier-supporting
  • Penetration: Smaller than standard HA — penetrates to dermis
  • Evidence: Gold-standard hydrating ingredient in clinical skincare

Arthrospira Platensis (Spirulina) Extract ListedPromising

Blue-green microalgae extract rich in phycocyanin, chlorophyll, amino acids, vitamins B, C, E, and essential fatty acids. Acts as a potent antioxidant to neutralize free radicals, supports collagen synthesis, and helps protect skin from environmental damage. Also a humectant that contributes to overall skin hydration.

  • Antioxidant: Phycocyanin has strong free radical scavenging activity
  • Nutrition: Rich source of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids for skin
  • Humectant: Helps attract and retain moisture in skin layers

Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil ListedProven

Cold-pressed hemp seed oil with a near-perfect 3:1 ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acids. Rich in linoleic acid (Omega-6), it actively repairs and strengthens the skin barrier, reduces TEWL, and has demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties. Comedogenic rating: 0 — completely non-pore-clogging, ideal for acne-prone skin.

  • Fatty Acids: ~57% linoleic acid, ~19% alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)
  • Comedogenicity: Rated 0 — among the safest oils for acne-prone skin
  • Barrier: Linoleic acid is a key component of the skin's natural ceramides
Contains no THC or CBD. Hemp seed oil is purely cosmetic and has zero psychoactive compounds — it is the seed oil, not an extract of the plant's leaves or flowers.

Chenopodium Quinoa Seed Oil ListedPromising

Quinoa seed oil extracted from the superfood grain is rich in squalene, tocopherols (vitamin E), and fatty acids. It provides emollient properties, antioxidant protection, and barrier-strengthening benefits. Very low comedogenicity (rating 1) makes it appropriate for all skin types including oily and acne-prone.

  • Key Compounds: Squalene (~5%), tocopherols, oleic and linoleic acids
  • Benefits: Emollient, antioxidant, barrier repair support
  • Comedogenicity: Rating 1 — minimal pore-clogging risk

Pinus Pinaster (Pine) Bark Extract ListedProven

Maritime pine bark extract (Pycnogenol®-related) containing oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) — among the most potent antioxidants known. Neutralizes free radicals from UV exposure, reduces inflammation, and supports collagen stability by inhibiting collagen-degrading enzymes. Clinical studies support its role in skin brightening and anti-aging.

  • Antioxidant: OPCs are 20x more potent than Vitamin C and 50x more than Vitamin E
  • Anti-aging: Inhibits MMP enzymes that break down collagen and elastin
  • Brightening: Reduces UV-induced pigmentation through anti-inflammatory action

Crithmum Maritimum Callus Culture Filtrate (Sea Fennel Stem Cells) 250,000 Stem CellsPromising

Plant stem cells derived from sea fennel (rock samphire) via callus culture technology. These biotechnology-derived stem cells provide exceptional stability under environmental stress and are shown to protect skin stem cells, boost cellular renewal, improve skin luminosity, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles through epigenetic activation pathways.

  • Technology: Callus culture filtrate — biotechnology-derived active ingredient
  • Claims: Shown to boost luminosity and improve look of firmness and wrinkles
  • Stability: Marine-derived — naturally adapted to harsh environmental conditions

Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Seed Extract ListedPromising

Pomegranate seed extract rich in punicalagins and ellagic acid — potent antioxidants with skin-brightening and anti-inflammatory activity. Brand claims it is up to 20 times more effective than Kojic Acid at visibly reducing hyperpigmentation. Also provides antioxidant protection against UV-induced oxidative stress.

  • Key Actives: Punicalagins, ellagic acid, punicic acid (Omega-5)
  • Brightening: Inhibits tyrosinase and reduces melanin synthesis via multiple pathways
  • Antioxidant: ORAC value among highest of any natural extract

Glycerin High Position — ~5-10%Proven

One of the most well-researched and effective humectants in skincare. Draws moisture from the environment and deeper skin layers to the outer epidermis. At the high formula position indicated, it significantly contributes to the serum's hydration profile. Skin-identical ingredient with zero comedogenicity (rating 0).

  • Hydration: Holds up to 10x its weight in water as a humectant
  • Barrier: Keeps lipid layers in healthy liquid crystal state
  • Evidence: Effective from 3%+ with growing benefits at higher concentrations

Lactic Acid Low-Level AHAProven

A gentle alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from milk or fermentation that exfoliates dead skin cells from the surface, improves skin texture, and acts as a humectant. Gentler than glycolic acid with a larger molecule size. The low concentration used here provides mild exfoliation and texture improvement without significant irritation risk.

  • Function: Chemical exfoliation, texture refinement, humectancy
  • Gentleness: Larger molecule than glycolic acid — less irritating for sensitive skin
  • Note: Can increase photosensitivity — use SPF in AM

How to use

HOW TO USE
1

Cleanse Thoroughly

Begin with a gentle cleanser suited to your skin type. Pat skin dry — do not rub. Clean, dry skin maximizes active ingredient absorption from the serum.

2

Apply Toner (Optional)

If using a hydrating toner or essence, apply it first on slightly damp skin. This helps create a hydrated surface that improves serum penetration and reduces potential for mild tingling from actives.

3

Dispense 3–4 Drops

Pump or pour 3–4 drops of Green Machine into your palm. A little goes a long way — do not over-apply. The jelly-to-oil texture will warm and transform slightly on contact with skin.

4

Press and Massage In

Gently press the serum across your face using your fingertips, then massage in circular motions until fully absorbed. Don't forget the neck and décolletage if targeting discoloration in those areas.

5

Follow with Moisturizer

Apply your moisturizer while the serum is still slightly tacky. This seals in the actives and ensures continuous hydration delivery throughout the day or night.

6

Apply SPF (AM Routine)

Always finish your morning routine with a broad-spectrum SPF 30+. This product contains AHA (Lactic Acid) which can increase photosensitivity. Sunscreen also protects against new dark spot formation from UV exposure.

06

Skin type compatibility

SKIN TYPES
Oily Skin
Excellent

The jelly-oil texture absorbs rapidly without leaving residue or adding shine. Non-comedogenic oils and Niacinamide actively help regulate sebum production. Ideal for oily skin seeking brightening without heaviness.

Dry Skin
Good

Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, and the aloe base provide meaningful hydration. The superfood oils add emollient moisture. For very dry skin, follow with a richer moisturizer or facial oil for complete hydration layering.

Storage & shelf life

12 MONTHS
Period After Opening (PAO)

12 months after opening under proper storage conditions. The Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate form is significantly more stable than L-Ascorbic Acid, but the formula contains botanical extracts that degrade over time. Use within 2 months for maximum potency if stored at room temperature without refrigeration.

Storage Instructions

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Refrigeration is not required but can extend freshness of botanical actives and prevent oxidation of the vitamin C complex. Keep lid tightly closed after each use. Avoid storing in humid bathrooms — a bedroom dresser or refrigerator is ideal.

Packaging

Available in a glass dropper bottle format and a refillable airless pump format. The refill/pump version is recommended for better preservation of actives (less air exposure per use) and for eco-conscious consumers. Recyclable packaging. The green color of the serum may gradually lighten over time — a slight color shift is normal but significant yellowing or browning indicates oxidation.

Travel Friendly

Yes — the 30ml / 1 fl oz size complies with TSA 3-1-1 carry-on liquid rules (under 100ml). The pump or dropper packaging is spill-resistant and suitable for travel. Consider placing in a sealed bag to prevent any leakage from pressure changes during flights.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ

Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Kojic Acid is generally recommended to be avoided during pregnancy as safety data is limited. Tranexamic Acid and Alpha-Arbutin also lack extensive pregnancy safety studies. The niacinamide, aloe, hyaluronic acid, and most botanical ingredients are considered safe. We strongly recommend consulting your OB/GYN or dermatologist before using this serum while pregnant or nursing. Safer brightening alternatives during pregnancy include pure niacinamide serums and azelaic acid (10% or less), which have better established pregnancy safety profiles.

Mostly safe, with one caveat. The formula contains Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate — a fermented preservative that some individuals with malassezia-sensitive skin may react to. The oils used (hemp, quinoa, moringa, sunflower) are predominantly composed of fatty acid profiles that are generally low risk for malassezia. If you have highly sensitive FA-prone skin, patch test on your jaw or inner arm for 5–7 days before full face use. The absence of polysorbates, esters with specific fatty acids, and most traditional triggering ingredients makes this formula suitable for the majority of FA-sensitive users.

Yes, with thoughtful layering. Green Machine already contains a stable vitamin C (Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate) and a mild AHA (Lactic Acid), so additional vitamin C or AHA layering on top is generally unnecessary and increases irritation risk. For retinol: use Green Machine in the AM and retinol PM, or alternate nights for best tolerance. For additional BHA (salicylic acid): apply on different days or at different times to avoid over-exfoliation. The stable oil-soluble vitamin C in this formula does not have the same pH conflict issues as L-Ascorbic Acid, making it more compatible with a wider range of actives. Always introduce new actives slowly and monitor for sensitivity.

Green Machine is formulated for all skin types, but shows its greatest strengths with oily, combination, and acne-prone skin. The non-comedogenic oils, Niacinamide for sebum regulation, and fast-absorbing jelly texture make it ideal for those who struggle with other serums feeling heavy or pore-clogging. Sensitive skin types benefit from the aloe base and stable (non-irritating) vitamin C form. Dry skin types will love the multi-layer hydration but may want to follow with a richer cream. Mature skin benefits from the collagen-supporting vitamin C, antioxidant pine bark, and firming stem cells.

Results follow a predictable timeline with consistent use. In the first 1–2 weeks, most users notice an immediate dewy glow and improved skin texture due to the hydrating aloe-glycerin base. By weeks 2–4, the exfoliating Lactic Acid and brightening complex begin improving surface dullness and recent post-acne marks. The most significant improvements in established dark spots, melasma, and hyperpigmentation typically appear at weeks 4–8 of daily use. The brand's clinical testing indicates visible results in as little as 4 weeks. For deeper pigmentation or melasma, 3–6 months of consistent AM + PM use with daily SPF produces optimal results. Individual results vary based on skin tone, depth of pigmentation, and sun exposure habits.

Green Machine is applied as your serum step — after cleansing and toning, but before moisturizer and SPF. The full recommended order is: (1) Cleanser → (2) Toner/Essence (optional) → (3) Green Machine Serum — 3 to 4 drops → (4) Eye Cream → (5) Moisturizer → (6) SPF in AM only. The brand recommends using it both morning and evening. Because it contains an AHA (Lactic Acid), always apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ in the morning to protect against photosensitivity. It layers well under makeup and does not pill under moisturizer or sunscreen.

No — Green Machine is non-comedogenic with an overall rating of 1 out of 5. The formula is specifically designed with pore safety in mind: hemp seed oil has a comedogenic rating of 0, quinoa seed oil rates 1, sunflower oil rates 0–2, and moringa oil rates 3 but is present in low concentration. The formula contains no mineral oil, coconut oil, cocoa butter, isopropyl myristate, or other traditionally pore-clogging ingredients. The aloe-based formula and fast-absorbing jelly texture further minimize any risk. Community reviews from oily and acne-prone users broadly report no breakouts or increased congestion. iNNBEAUTY PROJECT explicitly markets this as a non-comedogenic, pore-safe formula.

The PAO (Period After Opening) is 12 months under proper storage conditions. However, because the formula contains botanical extracts and a vitamin C complex that can oxidize, using it within 2–3 months after opening is recommended for peak potency. A notable sign of oxidation is the serum's green color shifting to yellow or brown — if this occurs, the vitamin C has degraded and the product should be replaced. To maximize shelf life: store in a cool, dry place (ideally a refrigerator or bedroom drawer), keep the cap firmly closed between uses, and avoid leaving it in direct sunlight or warm bathrooms. The 30ml size used twice daily typically runs out in about 3–4 weeks, which aligns well with peak ingredient efficacy.

— Skincarisma verdict
4.4 / 5 ★★★★☆

Verdict: The iNNBEAUTY PROJECT Green Machine Skin Transforming Oil Jelly Serum is one of the most comprehensively formulated affordable brightening serums on the market. By stacking six clinically-supported brightening actives — 4% Tranexamic Acid, stable Vitamin C, 2% Niacinamide, Kojic Acid, Alpha-Arbutin, and an Azelaic Acid derivative — in an 80% aloe base with 15 supergreens and 250,000 plant stem cells, it delivers multi-pathway hyperpigmentation treatment that rivals serums costing 3–4x the price. The oil-soluble, non-irritating Vitamin C form makes it uniquely accessible to sensitive skin and allows twice-daily use that L-Ascorbic Acid serums can't match. Its non-comedogenic, fragrance-free, vegan, and Clean at Sephora credentials add further value. Minor considerations include the 1oz size for twice-daily users, the Kojic Acid pregnancy caution, and the need for consistent SPF use with AHA content. For anyone targeting dark spots, melasma, post-acne marks, or general skin brightening who wants clean, effective, science-backed skincare without the luxury price tag, Green Machine is an exceptional choice.

question
lightbulb What are Notable Effects & Ingredients?

Ever used a product that promised a certain effect but provided no results? It might not have contained any notable ingredients that could have been responsible for that promised effect. It doesn't matter what the marketing or packaging «promises» it can do, if it doesn't contain anything that can help - then the likelihood of it helping is low.

We help you identify key notable ingredients that have been shown to help with effects such as acne-fighting, brightening, UV-protection, wound healing & anti-aging to help you achieve your skincare goals smarter. Please note that different notable ingredients have varying levels of research behind them, some are extremely well proven yet some have mixed research in their efficacy.

muscle Pro Tip Alert!

Just because a product doesn't contain any notable ingredients doesn't mean it's bad. And a product with notable ingredients (or even many) doesn't necessarily guarantee the efficacy of the product performing these effects either. There are other factors such as ingredient quality, concentration and formulation that will ultimately determine this.

Be smart and use this as just a starting point for you to make more informed and smarter choices and compare it with reviews to see if the product is right for you

lightbulb What is the Ingredient Safety Breakdown?

Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.

muscle Pro Tip Alert!

EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
