Ingredient breakdown

INGREDIENTS

Ceramide Complex (NP, AP, EOP)Proven

Three essential ceramides that are naturally found in the skin's barrier. They work synergistically to restore and maintain the skin's protective function, reducing moisture loss and improving overall skin health.

  • Ceramide NP: The most abundant ceramide in skin, helps retain moisture and maintain barrier integrity
  • Ceramide AP: Supports skin structure and works with cholesterol to form the lipid matrix
  • Ceramide EOP: Long-chain ceramide that provides superior barrier protection
Clinical studies show topical ceramides can help repair damaged skin barriers and reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

Sodium HyaluronateProven

The sodium salt form of hyaluronic acid, known as one of the strongest moisturizers available. Can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, providing intense hydration to the skin.

  • Molecular Weight: Smaller than pure HA, penetrates skin more effectively
  • Function: Binds water to skin cells, plumping and hydrating even during cleansing

SqualaneProven

A stable, hydrogenated form of squalene, which is naturally produced by our skin's sebaceous glands. Non-irritating even at 100% concentration, making it ideal for sensitive skin.

  • Biocompatibility: Mimics skin's natural oils, absorbed quickly without greasiness
  • Function: Provides emollient properties, helping to soften and smooth the skin
If derived from olive oil, may contain trace fatty acids that could potentially feed Malassezia yeast. Sugarcane-derived squalane is safer for fungal acne concerns.

Panthenol (Provitamin B5)Proven

A provitamin that converts to vitamin B5 in the skin. Known for its soothing, moisturizing, and skin-regenerating properties.

  • Healing: Accelerates epithelial regeneration and wound healing
  • Moisturizing: Acts as a humectant, attracting and binding water to the skin
  • Soothing: Calms irritated, inflamed skin and reduces redness

Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate Gentle SurfactantProven

A mild, coconut-derived surfactant that cleanses without stripping the skin. Much gentler than traditional sulfates like SLS/SLES.

  • Mildness: One of the gentlest surfactants available, suitable for sensitive skin
  • CIR Safety: Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel confirms safety in cosmetic use

1

Dispense

Apply a small amount of emulsion (about a coin-sized amount) to your hands every morning and/or evening.

2

Massage

Gently massage onto moist skin of the face, lips, and eye area using circular motions. The emulsion does not foam - this is normal.

3

Skin type compatibility

SKIN TYPES
Dry Skin
Excellent

Specifically designed for dry skin. Ceramides, squalane, and hyaluronic acid provide hydration during cleansing without stripping natural oils.

Sensitive Skin
Excellent

Maximum Tolerance formula minimizes irritation risk. Fragrance-free, gentle surfactants, and soothing panthenol make it ideal for reactive skin.

Combination Skin
Good

Works well for combination skin, especially if your skin leans dry. May not provide enough cleansing power for very oily T-zones.

Oily Skin
Moderate

May feel too gentle for oily skin. Non-foaming texture might not provide the deep cleanse oily skin craves. Consider a foaming alternative.

Acne-Prone
Good

Low comedogenic rating (1/5). Safe for acne-prone skin but avoid if you have fungal acne due to some potentially problematic ingredients.

Mature Skin
Excellent

Ceramide-rich formula supports aging skin that naturally loses lipids. Gentle cleansing preserves the skin barrier that thins with age.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ

Yes, this cleanser is considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It contains no retinoids, salicylic acid, hydroquinone, chemical sunscreens, or other ingredients typically advised against during pregnancy. All ingredients including ceramides, hyaluronic acid, panthenol, and squalane have established safety profiles for use during pregnancy and nursing.

Use with caution if you have fungal acne. This product contains cetearyl alcohol, cocoglycerides, glycolipids, and phospholipids which may potentially feed Malassezia yeast. However, since it's a rinse-off product that doesn't stay on the skin, the risk is lower than with leave-on products. If you're prone to fungal acne, consider La Roche-Posay Toleriane or Bioderma Sensibio as safer alternatives.

Yes, absolutely. This gentle, non-stripping cleanser is actually ideal for use with active treatments like retinol, vitamin C, AHAs, and BHAs. Its barrier-supporting ceramides and soothing panthenol help counteract the potential irritation from these actives. Many users specifically choose this cleanser because they're using sensitizing treatments and need a gentle cleansing step.

This cleanser is specifically formulated for dry and sensitive skin types. It's excellent for those with rosacea, eczema-prone skin, mature skin, or anyone experiencing compromised skin barrier. It also works well for combination skin that leans dry. Those with very oily skin or who prefer a foaming sensation may find it too gentle.

You'll notice immediate results - skin feels soft, clean, and comfortable right after use without tightness. Within 1-2 weeks of consistent use, you should notice improved skin comfort and reduced post-cleansing dryness. After 4-6 weeks, the ceramide complex helps strengthen the skin barrier, leading to better moisture retention and reduced sensitivity overall.

Use this as the first step in your routine, both morning and evening. If you wear heavy or waterproof makeup, consider using an oil-based cleanser or micellar water first, then follow with this emulsion as your second cleanse. After cleansing, proceed with toner, serum/essence, moisturizer, and sunscreen (AM only).

This cleanser has a low comedogenic rating of 1/5, meaning it's unlikely to clog pores. It's free from heavy oils, silicones, and known pore-clogging ingredients. Since it's a rinse-off product, ingredients don't remain on the skin long enough to cause congestion. It's generally considered safe for acne-prone skin (excluding fungal acne).

The product has a 12-month Period After Opening (PAO), meaning it should be used within 12 months of first opening. The 300ml bottle typically lasts 3-4 months with twice-daily use, so you'll easily finish it within the recommended timeframe. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain efficacy.

— Skincarisma verdict
4.5 / 5 ★★★★★

Verdict: Bielenda Hydro Lipidium Maximum Tolerance Delicate Emulsion is an exceptional choice for anyone with dry, sensitive, or compromised skin seeking a gentle yet effective cleanser. The triple ceramide complex, hyaluronic acid, and squalane work together to cleanse without stripping the skin barrier - something many cleansers fail to achieve. The fragrance-free, non-foaming formula makes it ideal for rosacea sufferers, those on retinol treatments, or anyone whose skin rebels against harsh cleansers. While it may not satisfy those who prefer a foaming sensation or need heavy makeup removal, and those with fungal acne should proceed with caution, for its intended audience this Polish gem delivers exceptional value and performance. At approximately $12 for 300ml, it offers premium ingredients at a budget-friendly price point.

question
lightbulb What are Notable Effects & Ingredients?

Ever used a product that promised a certain effect but provided no results? It might not have contained any notable ingredients that could have been responsible for that promised effect. It doesn't matter what the marketing or packaging «promises» it can do, if it doesn't contain anything that can help - then the likelihood of it helping is low.

We help you identify key notable ingredients that have been shown to help with effects such as acne-fighting, brightening, UV-protection, wound healing & anti-aging to help you achieve your skincare goals smarter. Please note that different notable ingredients have varying levels of research behind them, some are extremely well proven yet some have mixed research in their efficacy.

muscle Pro Tip Alert!

Just because a product doesn't contain any notable ingredients doesn't mean it's bad. And a product with notable ingredients (or even many) doesn't necessarily guarantee the efficacy of the product performing these effects either. There are other factors such as ingredient quality, concentration and formulation that will ultimately determine this.

lightbulb What is the Ingredient Safety Breakdown?

Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.

muscle Pro Tip Alert!

EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
