Ingredient breakdown

INGREDIENTS

Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5) 5%Proven

A well-established humectant and skin protectant. At 5%, Panthenol penetrates deep into the skin to deliver multi-level hydration, soothe inflammation, and accelerate barrier recovery. Converts to Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) in the skin.

  • Hydration: Humectant that binds water in the skin, comparable to hyaluronic acid in moisture retention.
  • Barrier repair: Promotes fibroblast proliferation, supporting collagen production and wound healing.
  • Anti-inflammatory: Studies show it reduces irritation from harsh ingredients like preservatives and chemical sunscreens.
  • Source: Journal of Cosmetic Science, 2011; Clinics in Dermatology, 2009.
5% is a clinically meaningful concentration — most toners contain less than 1% Panthenol.

Natural Moisturising Factors (NMF Complex) MultiProven

A blend of components naturally found in the skin's upper layers that maintain hydration. Includes Sodium PCA (3.5–5.3%), Diglycerin (2.6–3.9%), Urea (2–2.9%), PCA (0.45–1.1%), Lactic Acid, Lysine, and Sorbitol.

  • Sodium PCA: The second largest component of the skin's natural NMF (12%). Powerful humectant with zero irritancy and comedogenicity.
  • Urea: Makes up 7% of the skin's NMF. Attracts water, strengthens barrier function, and enhances penetration of other actives.
  • Diglycerin: A glycerin derivative that draws moisture without stickiness.
  • Source: Fowler, J. "Understanding the role of natural moisturizing factor in skin hydration." Pract Dermatol, 2012.

AllantoinProven

A classic skin-soothing ingredient found naturally in comfrey root. Works synergistically with Panthenol to calm irritation, soften skin, and promote healing.

  • Soothing: Reduces inflammation and protects against environmental irritants.
  • Wound healing: Promotes cell regeneration and skin repair.
  • Synergy: Enhances the barrier-strengthening effects of Panthenol when combined.

Hydrolyzed Rice ProteinPromising

Protein extracted from rice, rich in amino acids and peptides. Provides additional NMF components and may help with skin tone and hydration.

  • Amino acids: Supplies amino acids that are the largest NMF component in skin.
  • Antioxidant: Research suggests it may help reduce melanin production when skin is exposed to UV.

Tocopherol (Vitamin E)Proven

Pure Vitamin E that provides antioxidant protection against UV-induced free radical damage. Also helps stabilize the formula.

  • Photoprotection: Provides significant protection against UVB rays and works synergistically with Vitamin C.
  • Dual role: Acts as both a skin conditioner and formula stabilizer to extend shelf life.

How to use

HOW TO USE
1

Cleanse Your Skin

Start with a clean face using your regular cleanser (e.g. Jelly Joker). Pat gently — skin can remain slightly damp.

2

Spray the Mist

Close your eyes and mist your entire face from about 20–25 cm (9 inches) away. 2–3 sprays are usually enough for full coverage.

3

Let It Absorb

Allow the toner to sink in for 15–30 seconds. You can gently pat it in with your fingertips to boost absorption.

4

Continue Your Routine

Follow with serums, moisturizer, and sunscreen (AM). Can also be reapplied throughout the day as a hydration refresh.

06

Who is it for?

WHO

Perfect for you if:

  • Your skin is dehydrated, tight, or flaky
  • You use strong actives (tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, AHAs/BHAs) that dry your skin
  • You prefer multiple light hydrating layers
  • You have sensitive or reactive skin that needs soothing
  • You want a pregnancy-safe, fungal acne-safe hydrating toner
  • You need a quick hydration boost between skincare steps or during the day

Consider alternatives if:

  • You need heavy, occlusive hydration for very dry skin (pair with a rich moisturizer instead)
  • You prefer a thick, viscous toner texture
  • You want active exfoliation — this is not an exfoliating toner
  • You need anti-aging actives like retinol or peptides in your toner step

Frequently asked questions

FAQ

Yes. Liquid Hydration contains no retinoids, salicylic acid, hydroquinone, chemical sunscreens, or any other ingredients flagged as unsafe during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The brand explicitly confirms this product is pregnancy-safe. All ingredients are gentle humectants and skin-identical components.

Yes. Liquid Hydration is confirmed malassezia-safe by the brand and verified by independent ingredient checkers (SkinSort, INCIDecoder). It contains no ferments, fatty acids, fatty acid esters, polysorbates, or oils that feed Malassezia yeast. The formula is entirely humectant-based with amino acids but no lipids.

Absolutely — this is one of the best use cases for Liquid Hydration. It's specifically recommended for people using strong actives that can dry or irritate the skin. Apply your exfoliant or Vitamin C serum first, then follow with Liquid Hydration to soothe and hydrate. If using tretinoin or retinol at night, apply Liquid Hydration before your retinoid to buffer, or after to soothe.

Liquid Hydration is formulated for all skin types, including sensitive. It's especially excellent for oily, combination, and acne-prone skin because of its watery, oil-free, non-comedogenic formula. Dry skin types will love it too but should layer it under a richer moisturizer for best results. It's a universal skin-prep step.

Immediate hydration and soothing are felt from the first use. Noticeable improvements in skin texture and softness typically appear within 1–2 weeks of consistent use. Barrier strengthening effects from the 5% Panthenol build over 4–6 weeks. For best long-term results, use consistently AM and PM for at least 2–3 months.

Apply after cleansing and any liquid exfoliants (AHA/BHA/PHA), but before serums, moisturizers, and sunscreen. If using Vitamin C (like C-Glow), apply the Vitamin C first, then follow with Liquid Hydration. It sits in the toner/essence step of your routine — step 2 or 3 after cleansing.

No. Liquid Hydration has a comedogenic rating of 0/5. Every ingredient in the formula has a comedogenicity score of 0. It contains no oils, waxes, fatty alcohols, fatty acids, or emollients that could clog pores. It is one of the safest products you can use if you're prone to breakouts or clogged pores.

The Period After Opening (PAO) is 6 months. Unopened, the product has a shelf life of 2 years from the production date. With twice-daily use, the 110 ml bottle typically lasts about 4–6 weeks, so you'll likely finish it well within the 6-month PAO window. Store in a cool, dry place for optimal freshness.

— Skincarisma verdict
4.5 / 5 ★★★★★

Verdict: Geek & Gorgeous Liquid Hydration is a near-perfect hydrating toner that punches well above its price point. The 5% Panthenol combined with a thoughtful NMF complex delivers clinically relevant hydration and barrier support in a clean, minimal formula. Its exceptional safety profile (pregnancy-safe, fungal acne-safe, 0/5 comedogenic) makes it one of the most universally compatible toners on the market. The spray format is a joy to use, and the science-backed approach from the founder of INCIDecoder inspires confidence. The only reasons it doesn't earn a full 5/5 are the small bottle size relative to daily use, the short 6-month PAO, and the fact that very dry skin will need to layer a richer moisturizer on top. At €8.50, this is exceptional value — highly recommended as a staple hydrating step for any routine.

Ever used a product that promised a certain effect but provided no results? It might not have contained any notable ingredients that could have been responsible for that promised effect. lightbulb What is the Ingredient Safety Breakdown?

Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.

muscle Pro Tip Alert!

EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
