Bio-Cellulose from Coconut

Step 1 sheet is made from fermented coconut bio-cellulose with an ultra-fine net structure that adheres seamlessly to every contour of the nose for deep sebum extraction.

Patented Blackhead-Melting Formula

Contains a patented ingredient (Korean Patent No. 10-1497191) specifically developed for dissolving and removing blackheads and sebum without tearing or stripping the skin.

Chestnut Shell Extract (Step 2)

Step 2 soothes post-extraction skin and tightens pores using chestnut shell extract, witch hazel, and a blend of 18 earth-derived botanical ingredients.

Hydrating Aftercare

Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5) and betaine replenish moisture after deep cleansing, preventing post-treatment dryness and dehydration.

02

Safety & compatibility

SAFE
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Contains Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, a natural source of salicylates. While lower concentration than synthetic BHA, consult your OB-GYN before use during pregnancy.

Fungal Acne (Malassezia)

Contains PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil and Hydrogenated Lecithin in Step 1 which may feed Malassezia. However, this is a rinse-off product with short contact time, reducing risk.

Low Comedogenic Risk

Rated 1/5 comedogenic. Primarily water-based formula with no heavy oils. This is a wash-off treatment, not a leave-on product, further reducing pore-clogging risk.

Hypoallergenic Tested

Clinically tested for hypoallergenicity. Uses only EWG Green Grade ingredients and follows a 7-Free formula (no parabens, mineral oil, synthetic colors, or harsh irritants).

Sensitive Skin Friendly

Gentle melting approach instead of peel-off stripping. Soothing botanicals like portulaca oleracea and dipotassium glycyrrhizate calm redness and irritation.

Contains Peppermint Oil

Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil provides a cooling sensation but may cause mild tingling. If you have very reactive skin, patch test on the inner wrist first.

Ingredient breakdown

INGREDIENTS

Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract Step 1Proven

A natural source of salicin, which converts to salicylic acid on the skin. Gently exfoliates inside pores to loosen blackheads and sebum plugs without the harshness of synthetic BHA.

  • Function: Natural BHA-like exfoliant that dissolves sebum within pores
  • Research: Salicin has demonstrated anti-inflammatory and keratolytic properties in dermatological studies

Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract Steps 1 & 2Proven

Present in both steps as a natural astringent. Helps tighten pores after blackhead removal and controls excess sebum production.

  • Function: Astringent and anti-inflammatory; tightens pores and reduces oiliness
  • Research: Rich in tannins and polyphenols with documented anti-inflammatory effects on skin

Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5) Steps 1 & 2Proven

A humectant and skin-repair agent found in both steps. Penetrates deeply to hydrate the skin post-extraction and supports the skin barrier recovery process.

  • Function: Deep hydration, wound healing, and skin barrier repair
  • Research: Extensively studied; shown to enhance stratum corneum hydration and reduce transepidermal water loss

Castanea Crenata (Chestnut) Shell Extract Step 2Promising

The star ingredient of Step 2. Rich in tannins and antioxidants, it works to soothe skin after deep cleansing and helps minimize the appearance of pores.

  • Function: Pore tightening, soothing, and antioxidant protection
  • Research: Contains ellagic acid and gallic acid with documented astringent and anti-inflammatory effects

Fruit Complex (AHA Blend) Step 1Proven

A blend of Bilberry, Sugarcane, Orange, Lemon, and Sugar Maple extracts (ACB Fruit Mix). Provides gentle AHA exfoliation to dissolve dead skin cells capping the pores.

  • Function: Mild chemical exfoliation via natural alpha-hydroxy acids (citric, glycolic, lactic, malic)
  • Research: AHAs are well-established in dermatology for promoting cell turnover and improving skin texture
Natural AHA concentration is low in this formula but may cause mild tingling. Avoid using immediately after other acid treatments.

Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate (Licorice Root) Steps 1 & 2Proven

A potent anti-inflammatory derived from licorice root. Calms redness and irritation that can occur during blackhead extraction, making the process gentler on sensitive skin.

  • Function: Anti-inflammatory, soothing, and anti-irritant agent
  • Research: Widely used in dermatology for reducing inflammation; backed by multiple clinical studies
One of the most gentle and well-tolerated anti-inflammatory ingredients available in skincare.

How to use

HOW TO USE
1

Cleanse & Dry

Wash your face thoroughly and pat the nose area completely dry. The bio-cellulose sheet adheres best to dry skin for maximum sebum extraction.

2

Apply Step 1 (Sebum Melting)

Remove the protective film from the bio-cellulose sheet and apply the middle layer directly onto your nose. The sheet has three layers — use only the center one. Leave on for 10–15 minutes.

3

Extract with Cotton Swabs

Peel off Step 1. Use the included cotton swabs (with the extruding side) to gently rub and push out the softened blackheads and sebum. Rinse lightly with lukewarm water.

4

Apply Step 2 (Soothing & Tightening)

Place the T-shaped Step 2 spunlace sheet onto the treated area. Leave on for 15–20 minutes. This step soothes the skin and tightens pores after extraction.

5

Pat & Absorb

Remove Step 2 and gently pat the remaining essence into the skin. Follow with your usual toner, serum, and moisturizer.

SKIN TYPES
Oily Skin
Excellent

Ideal for oily skin prone to blackheads and excess sebum. The melting formula targets exactly what oily skin struggles with most on the nose and T-zone.

Combination Skin
Excellent

Perfect for targeting the oily T-zone while leaving dry cheeks untouched. Step 2 provides hydration to balance the treated area.

Normal Skin
Good

Works well for occasional blackhead maintenance. Use once a week to keep pores clean without over-treating.

Sensitive Skin
Good

Hypoallergenic tested and much gentler than peel-off strips. Peppermint oil may cause mild tingling — patch test first.

Dry Skin
Moderate

Less necessary for dry skin types who rarely experience blackheads. If needed, limit use to once a week and follow with a rich moisturizer.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ

Use with caution. Step 1 contains Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, a natural source of salicylates (related to salicylic acid/BHA). While the concentration is lower than synthetic BHA products and this is a short-contact rinse-off treatment, most dermatologists recommend avoiding salicylate-containing products during pregnancy as a precaution. Consult your OB-GYN or dermatologist before use.

Use with caution. Step 1 contains PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil and Hydrogenated Lecithin, which are potential fungal acne triggers. However, this is a short-contact wash-off treatment (10–15 minutes) rather than a leave-on product, which significantly reduces the risk of feeding Malassezia yeast. Step 2 is generally safer but contains Butylene Glycol. If you have active fungal acne on your nose, consider consulting a dermatologist first.

Avoid using this nose pack immediately after applying strong actives like retinol, vitamin C serums, or concentrated AHA/BHA treatments on the same day. The nose pack contains mild AHAs from its fruit complex, and layering it with other exfoliants can cause over-exfoliation and irritation. Use the nose pack on "off days" from your active treatments, or wait at least 24 hours after using retinol or chemical exfoliants.

This nose pack is best suited for oily and combination skin types that experience blackheads, sebaceous filaments, and excess sebum on the nose and T-zone. It also works well for normal skin as occasional maintenance. Those with sensitive skin can use it — it is hypoallergenic tested — but should patch test first due to the peppermint oil. Dry skin types may find it less necessary but can still use it occasionally.

Most users see visible blackhead removal after the very first use. The bio-cellulose sheet melts sebum during the 10–15 minute application, and blackheads can be gently extracted immediately after. For long-term pore refinement and reduced blackhead recurrence, consistent use once or twice a week for 3–4 weeks is recommended. Many users report needing less frequent treatments after about a month of regular use.

Use the ILSO Nose Pack right after cleansing, on dry skin, before any other products. After completing both Step 1 and Step 2, continue with the rest of your routine: toner, serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen (if daytime). It replaces any exfoliating step on the days you use it. Most users incorporate it 1–3 times per week.

The ILSO Nose Pack has a comedogenic rating of 1 out of 5, meaning it has very low pore-clogging risk. The formula is primarily water-based with no heavy oils or waxes. Additionally, this is a wash-off treatment rather than a leave-on product, so the ingredients are not sitting on your skin long enough to cause clogged pores. The product is actually designed to do the opposite — unclog and clear pores.

Each individual set is sealed in its own foil packet, so you only "open" one at a time. An unopened packet remains shelf-stable for up to 3 years from manufacture. Once you open an individual packet, use it immediately — the bio-cellulose sheet and essence should not be stored after opening. The box of 5 sets has a PAO (Period After Opening) of 12 months for the overall packaging.

— Skincarisma verdict
4.3 / 5 ★★★★☆

Verdict: The ILSO Natural Mild Clear Nose Pack is one of the best blackhead-removal nose packs available in K-beauty. Its 2-step approach — melting then soothing — is a significant upgrade over traditional peel-off strips that can damage skin. The bio-cellulose sheet from fermented coconut adheres remarkably well, and the patented formula genuinely softens sebum for easier extraction. Step 2 with chestnut shell extract and witch hazel provides soothing aftercare that most competitors skip entirely. The main drawback is the higher per-use cost ($3.80 vs ~$1 for basic strips) and the 25–35 minute time commitment. The included cotton swabs work but many users recommend pairing with the ILSO Deep Clean Master tool for best results. Overall, if you are serious about managing blackheads gently and effectively, this is a top-tier choice backed by over 1.45 million units sold and consistently high ratings across platforms.

lightbulb What are Notable Effects & Ingredients?

Ever used a product that promised a certain effect but provided no results? It might not have contained any notable ingredients that could have been responsible for that promised effect. It doesn't matter what the marketing or packaging «promises» it can do, if it doesn't contain anything that can help - then the likelihood of it helping is low.

We help you identify key notable ingredients that have been shown to help with effects such as acne-fighting, brightening, UV-protection, wound healing & anti-aging to help you achieve your skincare goals smarter. Please note that different notable ingredients have varying levels of research behind them, some are extremely well proven yet some have mixed research in their efficacy.

muscle Pro Tip Alert!

Just because a product doesn't contain any notable ingredients doesn't mean it's bad. And a product with notable ingredients (or even many) doesn't necessarily guarantee the efficacy of the product performing these effects either. There are other factors such as ingredient quality, concentration and formulation that will ultimately determine this.

lightbulb What is the Ingredient Safety Breakdown?

Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.

muscle Pro Tip Alert!

EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
