Frequently asked questions
FAQYes. The Needly pH Balancing Toner does not contain retinoids, salicylic acid, hydroquinone, or chemical sunscreens. All ingredients are considered safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is classified as pregnancy-friendly by ingredient analysis databases like Picky and SkinSort.
No. This toner contains several ingredients that are potential triggers for fungal acne, including Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate (a yeast ferment), Glycereth-25 PCA Isostearate, Triethylhexanoin, and Polyglyceryl-10 Oleate. If you have diagnosed fungal acne, consider alternatives like Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Toner or Klairs Supple Preparation Unscented Toner instead.
Yes. The pH 5.5 formula is gentle and does not contain any actives that would conflict with retinol, vitamin C, AHA, or BHA. In fact, this toner works beautifully as a prep step before stronger actives, helping to buffer and hydrate the skin. Users report it pairs especially well with tretinoin by keeping skin moisturized and reducing irritation.
This toner is formulated for all skin types and is particularly excellent for combination and oily skin due to its lightweight texture and sebum-balancing properties. Dry skin types benefit from layering 2-3 applications. Sensitive skin types can use it safely as it is dermatologist tested and hypoallergenic. It is not recommended for those with fungal acne.
Hydration and plumping effects are immediate from the first use. Improved skin texture and reduced tightness typically appear within 1-2 weeks. Brightening effects from niacinamide become visible around weeks 3-4. Anti-aging benefits from adenosine and mushroom extract develop over 2-3 months of consistent use.
Apply immediately after cleansing as the very first step of your skincare routine (Step 2 after cleanser). It balances skin pH and prepares it to absorb the next products more effectively. Follow with essence, serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen (morning only). Use both morning and evening.
The comedogenic rating is very low at 1 out of 5. The formula does not contain heavy oils, waxes, or known pore-clogging ingredients. It is very unlikely to cause breakouts for most people. However, individual sensitivities vary, so a patch test is always recommended when trying a new product.
The Period After Opening (PAO) is 12 months. The 145ml bottle typically lasts 2-3 months with twice-daily use. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain product integrity throughout its shelf life.
Verdict: The Needly pH Balancing Toner is an excellent everyday hydrating toner that delivers on its triple-balance promise of pH, moisture, and sebum control. Its unique grifolin mushroom extract, combined with proven actives like niacinamide and panthenol, makes it stand out from basic hydrating toners. The lightweight milky texture absorbs quickly and layers beautifully — a true workhorse product for any K-beauty routine. Its main drawbacks are the smaller bottle size compared to competitors and the fact that it is not fungal acne safe. If those are not concerns for you, this is a highly recommended toner for balanced, hydrated, and brighter skin.

Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.
EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
