Ingredient breakdown

INGREDIENTS

Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) ~2-5%Proven

A multi-functional skincare superstar that brightens skin, fades dark spots, minimizes pore appearance, and strengthens the skin barrier by boosting ceramide production.

  • Brightening: Inhibits melanosome transfer to reduce hyperpigmentation and even skin tone
  • Barrier Support: Increases ceramide and fatty acid synthesis for a stronger moisture barrier
  • Anti-Aging: Effective at 4-5% concentration for wrinkle smoothing and fine line reduction
Niacinamide is one of the most well-researched and universally tolerated actives in skincare. Safe for all skin types including sensitive and acne-prone.

Panthenol (Vitamin B5) ~1-3%Proven

A provitamin that converts to pantothenic acid in the skin, providing deep hydration, barrier repair, and soothing anti-inflammatory benefits.

  • Hydration: Attracts and retains moisture from the environment as a powerful humectant
  • Barrier Repair: Accelerates skin barrier recovery and stimulates lipid synthesis
  • Soothing: Calms irritated and inflamed skin, making it ideal for post-procedure care

Albatrellus Confluens (Mushroom) ExtractPromising

A unique Finnish mushroom extract containing grifolin, which Needly calls "Coolin." It provides antioxidant protection and helps improve skin firmness and elasticity while preventing signs of aging.

  • Anti-Aging: Grifolin has demonstrated antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in studies
  • Firming: Helps improve skin vitality and resilience over time

Centella Asiatica ExtractProven

Known as "Cica" or Gotu Kola, this legendary healing herb calms inflammation, supports collagen production, and accelerates wound healing for healthier, more resilient skin.

  • Soothing: Rich in madecassoside and asiaticoside which reduce redness and irritation
  • Healing: Used for centuries in traditional medicine for wound repair and skin regeneration

Triple Hyaluronic Acid ComplexProven

Three forms of hyaluronic acid (Hyaluronic Acid, Hydrolyzed HA, Sodium Hyaluronate) at different molecular weights to hydrate skin at multiple levels — from the surface to deeper layers.

  • Multi-Layer Hydration: High-molecular-weight HA hydrates the surface; low-molecular-weight HA penetrates deeper
  • Moisture Retention: Can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water for plumped, supple skin

AdenosineProven

A Korean MFDS-approved anti-wrinkle functional ingredient that stimulates collagen production and visibly reduces fine lines over time.

  • Anti-Wrinkle: Officially recognized in Korea for wrinkle improvement claims

Frequently asked questions

FAQ

Yes. The Needly pH Balancing Toner does not contain retinoids, salicylic acid, hydroquinone, or chemical sunscreens. All ingredients are considered safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is classified as pregnancy-friendly by ingredient analysis databases like Picky and SkinSort.

No. This toner contains several ingredients that are potential triggers for fungal acne, including Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate (a yeast ferment), Glycereth-25 PCA Isostearate, Triethylhexanoin, and Polyglyceryl-10 Oleate. If you have diagnosed fungal acne, consider alternatives like Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Toner or Klairs Supple Preparation Unscented Toner instead.

Yes. The pH 5.5 formula is gentle and does not contain any actives that would conflict with retinol, vitamin C, AHA, or BHA. In fact, this toner works beautifully as a prep step before stronger actives, helping to buffer and hydrate the skin. Users report it pairs especially well with tretinoin by keeping skin moisturized and reducing irritation.

This toner is formulated for all skin types and is particularly excellent for combination and oily skin due to its lightweight texture and sebum-balancing properties. Dry skin types benefit from layering 2-3 applications. Sensitive skin types can use it safely as it is dermatologist tested and hypoallergenic. It is not recommended for those with fungal acne.

Hydration and plumping effects are immediate from the first use. Improved skin texture and reduced tightness typically appear within 1-2 weeks. Brightening effects from niacinamide become visible around weeks 3-4. Anti-aging benefits from adenosine and mushroom extract develop over 2-3 months of consistent use.

Apply immediately after cleansing as the very first step of your skincare routine (Step 2 after cleanser). It balances skin pH and prepares it to absorb the next products more effectively. Follow with essence, serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen (morning only). Use both morning and evening.

The comedogenic rating is very low at 1 out of 5. The formula does not contain heavy oils, waxes, or known pore-clogging ingredients. It is very unlikely to cause breakouts for most people. However, individual sensitivities vary, so a patch test is always recommended when trying a new product.

The Period After Opening (PAO) is 12 months. The 145ml bottle typically lasts 2-3 months with twice-daily use. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain product integrity throughout its shelf life.

— Skincarisma verdict
4.3 / 5 ★★★★☆

Verdict: The Needly pH Balancing Toner is an excellent everyday hydrating toner that delivers on its triple-balance promise of pH, moisture, and sebum control. Its unique grifolin mushroom extract, combined with proven actives like niacinamide and panthenol, makes it stand out from basic hydrating toners. The lightweight milky texture absorbs quickly and layers beautifully — a true workhorse product for any K-beauty routine. Its main drawbacks are the smaller bottle size compared to competitors and the fact that it is not fungal acne safe. If those are not concerns for you, this is a highly recommended toner for balanced, hydrated, and brighter skin.

Please note that different notable ingredients have varying levels of research behind them, some are extremely well proven yet some have mixed research in their efficacy.

muscle Pro Tip Alert!

Just because a product doesn't contain any notable ingredients doesn't mean it's bad. And a product with notable ingredients (or even many) doesn't necessarily guarantee the efficacy of the product performing these effects either. There are other factors such as ingredient quality, concentration and formulation that will ultimately determine this.

lightbulb What is the Ingredient Safety Breakdown?

Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.

muscle Pro Tip Alert!

EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
