Ingredient breakdown
INGREDIENTSNeem Leaf Extract (Melia Azadirachta)Proven
The star ingredient — neem leaves are rich in flavonoids and polyphenols that provide potent antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal properties. Used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries to treat skin conditions and prevent acne.
- Antibacterial: Neem compounds like nimbidin and azadirachtin inhibit acne-causing bacteria (P. acnes)
- Anti-inflammatory: Reduces redness, swelling, and irritation associated with breakouts
- Astringent: Helps tighten pores and regulate excess sebum production
Kaolin Clay MajorProven
A fine, white clay (also called China clay) that gently absorbs excess oil and impurities. Less aggressive than bentonite, making it suitable for sensitive and dry skin types as well.
- Comedogenicity: Rated 0 — will not clog pores
- Irritancy: Rated 0 — extremely gentle on skin
- Function: Oil-absorbing, mattifying, and skin-softening
Bentonite Clay SupportingProven
A highly absorbent clay with a negative ionic charge that attracts positively charged toxins and bacteria from pores. The heavy-hitter for deep cleansing and sebum control.
- Absorption: Superior sebum-absorbing capacity compared to kaolin
- Detoxifying: Negative charge draws out impurities, bacteria, and environmental pollutants
- Skin smoothing: Instantly mattifies and smoothes skin texture
Fuller's Earth (Multani Mitti) SupportingProven
A traditional Ayurvedic clay known for its cooling and soothing properties. Removes deep-seated dirt and skin pollutants while improving skin texture and brightness.
- Cooling effect: Soothes inflamed and irritated skin on contact
- Oil control: Absorbs excess oil without over-stripping the skin
- Brightening: Helps improve skin tone with regular use
Turmeric Root Extract (Curcuma Longa)Proven
A powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory spice used in Ayurveda for centuries. The active compound curcumin helps soothe troubled skin, reduce redness, and promote a brighter complexion.

How to use
HOW TO USECleanse Your Face
Wash your face and neck with a gentle cleanser. Pat dry. For best results, pair with the Himalaya Purifying Neem Face Wash.
Apply the Mask
Apply an even layer over the face and neck, avoiding the eye and mouth area. Gently massage in circular motions for light exfoliation before letting it sit.
Wait 10–15 Minutes
Allow the mask to dry completely. You will feel a gentle tightening and cooling sensation as the clays draw out impurities. Do not leave on longer than 15 minutes.
Rinse Off
Remove with a wet sponge or towel using gentle circular motions. Rinse thoroughly with cool water. The grainy particles provide additional exfoliation during removal.
Hydrate
Follow immediately with a hydrating toner and moisturizer. Clay masks can be drying, so replenishing moisture is essential for balanced skin.

SKIN TYPESTriple-clay formula excels at absorbing excess sebum. Visibly reduces oiliness and leaves skin matte and smooth for hours.
Ideal for T-zone application. Apply to oilier areas and skip dry cheeks, or use a thinner layer on drier zones.
Neem's antibacterial action plus deep pore cleansing from clays make this a go-to for breakout management. Great for mild acne.
Works well as a weekly deep-cleansing treatment. Follow with a good moisturizer to maintain hydration balance.
Can be drying due to clay content. Limit to once a week maximum, reduce drying time to 8–10 minutes, and apply a rich moisturizer immediately after.
Contains fragrance and SLS which may irritate very reactive skin. Patch test first. Many sensitive-skin users report no issues, but caution is advised.

Budget-friendly alternatives (dupes)
DUPES100% pure bentonite clay — even more powerful oil absorption but no herbal actives like neem or turmeric. Mix with apple cider vinegar or water. More intense deep-cleaning action but also more drying.
Another Indian Ayurvedic brand with neem as the star ingredient. Available as a face wash rather than a mask, so no deep clay-cleansing effect, but similar antibacterial neem benefits for daily use.
Uses tea tree oil instead of neem for antibacterial properties, combined with kaolin clay. More widely available internationally. Gentler scent profile but similar pore-clearing results for oily skin.

Frequently asked questions
FAQUse with caution. The formula contains propylene glycol and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives (DMDM Hydantoin and Imidazolidinyl Urea), which some dermatologists recommend avoiding during pregnancy and breastfeeding. While it does not contain retinoids, salicylic acid, or hydroquinone, it is best to consult your OB-GYN or dermatologist before use.
Yes. The formula is free from oils, fatty acids, esters, ferments, and polysorbates — all known triggers for fungal acne. The clay-based composition does not feed Malassezia yeast. Multiple users with fungal acne-prone skin have reported no flare-ups from this product.
Yes, but with precaution. Since this is a rinse-off mask, it does not remain on the skin. However, clay masks can be mildly sensitizing, so avoid using them on the same day as strong actives like retinol, AHA, or BHA. Apply the mask on alternate days from your actives. Vitamin C serums can be applied after rinsing the mask and toning.
This mask is best suited for normal to oily and acne-prone skin. The triple-clay formula excels at absorbing excess sebum and clearing congested pores. It also works well for combination skin when applied primarily to the T-zone. Those with dry or very sensitive skin should use it sparingly and always follow with a rich moisturizer.
You will notice smoother, oil-free skin immediately after the first use. Within 1–2 weeks of consistent use (once or twice weekly), blackheads and minor breakouts typically begin to reduce. Significant improvement in overall skin texture, clarity, and acne recurrence is generally observed after 4–6 weeks of regular use.
Use it after cleansing as a treatment step, 1–2 times per week in the evening. After rinsing the mask off, continue with your toner, serum, and moisturizer. It replaces or comes before any leave-on treatments for that session. Do not use it as a daily product.
No. The comedogenic rating is 1 out of 5, which is very low. The primary ingredients — Kaolin (rated 0), Bentonite (rated 0), and Fuller's Earth — are all non-comedogenic clays. The formula is also free from oils and silicones. In fact, it actively works to unclog pores rather than block them.
The product has a Period After Opening (PAO) of 6 months. Shelf life from date of manufacture is approximately 24 months (unopened). Store in a cool, dry place and keep the cap tightly closed to prevent the product from drying out. If the texture, color, or smell changes significantly, discontinue use.
Verdict: The Himalaya Purifying Neem Mask is an outstanding budget-friendly clay mask that delivers real results for oily and acne-prone skin. Its triple-clay formula combined with Ayurvedic neem and turmeric provides effective deep cleansing, oil control, and antibacterial protection at a fraction of the price of premium competitors. The strong herbal scent and drying effect on non-oily skin types are its main drawbacks, and the presence of formaldehyde-releasing preservatives may concern ingredient-conscious users. However, for its price point and efficacy, it remains a cult-favorite across Asia and beyond — a proven workhorse that millions rely on week after week.

Quick Product Notes
Ever used a product that promised a certain effect but provided no results? It might not have contained any notable ingredients that could have been responsible for that promised effect. It doesn't matter what the marketing or packaging «promises» it can do, if it doesn't contain anything that can help - then the likelihood of it helping is low.

Please note that different notable ingredients have varying levels of research behind them, some are extremely well proven yet some have mixed research in their efficacy.
Just because a product doesn't contain any notable ingredients doesn't mean it's bad. And a product with notable ingredients (or even many) doesn't necessarily guarantee the efficacy of the product performing these effects either. There are other factors such as ingredient quality, concentration and formulation that will ultimately determine this.

Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.
EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
