SENSORY5-Filter Broad-Spectrum UV Defense
Combines five next-generation European UV filters — Ethylhexyl Triazone (UVB), Mexoryl SX (UVA), DHHB (UVA), Polysilicone-15, and Tinosorb S — for maximum, photostable SPF50+ PA++++ protection without white cast.
Proprietary 10-CICA Complex
Features 10 Centella Asiatica-derived actives including Madecassoside, Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid, and Asiatic Acid to deliver clinically verified calming, barrier-repair, and anti-irritation benefits.
Niacinamide Brightening
Vitamin B3 at an effective concentration inhibits melanin transfer, minimizes pore appearance, and boosts skin radiance — making this sunscreen double as a brightening step in your routine.
11,250 ppm Panthenol Hydration
High-dose Pro-Vitamin B5 attracts and locks in moisture, strengthens the lipid barrier, and counter-balances any dryness caused by UV filter ingredients — clinically shown to raise hydration levels by 17.1%.
Triple Korean Functional Cosmetic Certification
Certified by Korean regulatory authority as UV Protection, Whitening, and Anti-Wrinkle functional cosmetic — three clinical claims in one product, rare for a sunscreen.
4-Layer Environmental Shield
Guards against UVA, UVB, infrared rays, and fine dust/PM 2.5 particles — designed for urban, pollution-heavy environments where standard sunscreens fall short.
Safety & compatibility
SAFEThis product contains multiple chemical UV filters (Ethylhexyl Triazone, DHHB, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine). While not definitively proven harmful, many OB-GYNs recommend consulting your doctor before using chemical sunscreens during pregnancy. Mineral-only sunscreens with zinc oxide are often preferred as the safer alternative during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Consult your healthcare provider.
This formula contains several ingredients that can trigger or worsen Malassezia folliculitis (fungal acne): Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate, Cetearyl Alcohol (fatty alcohol), Echium Plantagineum Seed Oil, Cardiospermum Halicacabum Extract (contains oleic/palmitic acids), and ferment-derived ingredients. Those with confirmed fungal acne should seek an alternative formula.
Dr.G conducted official non-comedogenic patch tests confirming the formula does not clog pores. Despite the presence of certain fatty alcohols, the overall formulation is optimized to remain pore-friendly for most skin types. Comedogenic rating: 1/5.
Passed official allergy patch testing conducted by KC Skin Research Center Co. Ltd. on 33 adults aged 19–59. Suitable for sensitive and reactive skin types. Fragrance-free, paraben-free, and sulfate-free formula minimizes common irritant exposure.
This sunscreen contains no exfoliating acids (AHA/BHA) that would conflict with retinol or Vitamin C. Apply it as the final step after your actives. It actually helps protect retinol-treated skin from UV-induced sensitivity and photo-degradation.
Officially classified as NOT water-resistant. Reapplication is required after sweating, swimming, or towel-drying. For beach and pool activities, choose a dedicated water-resistant sunscreen. Ideal for daily office and urban use.
Niacinamide in this formula is compatible with most Vitamin C serums. Modern formulations at neutral-to-slightly-acidic pH prevent the niacinamide-Vitamin C flushing reaction. Apply Vitamin C serum before this sunscreen without concern.
Free from denatured alcohol, parabens, sulfates, and common fragrance allergens. The alcohols present (Cetearyl Alcohol, Caprylyl Methicone) are fatty/emollient alcohols that are non-drying and skin-friendly.

Where it fits in your routine
ROUTINEApply as the absolute last step of your AM skincare routine, after all serums and moisturizers have absorbed. Apply at least 15 minutes before UV exposure. Reapply every 2 hours outdoors.
How to use
HOW TO USEComplete Your AM Skincare Routine First
Apply your cleanser, toner, essence, serum, and moisturizer in order. Allow each layer to absorb fully before proceeding. This sunscreen works best when applied onto a hydrated, prepped skin surface.
Dispense a Coin-Sized Amount (approx. 1/4 teaspoon)
For adequate SPF protection, use approximately 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) for the face — equivalent to a coin-sized amount or two finger lengths. Under-application is the most common cause of reduced SPF effectiveness.
Dot Across Face and Blend Gently
Dot the product across the forehead, both cheeks, the nose, and chin. Using fingertips, blend outward in gentle circular motions, covering all sun-exposed areas including the neck and décolleté. Avoid rubbing — blend smoothly for even coverage.
Allow 10–15 Minutes Before Sun Exposure
Chemical sunscreen filters require brief time to bond with the skin and form a protective layer. Apply at least 10–15 minutes before going outdoors. The formula absorbs quickly without a sticky or greasy residue.
Reapply Every 2 Hours When Outdoors
No sunscreen lasts all day. Reapply every 2 hours when exposed to direct sunlight, and immediately after sweating, toweling, or water exposure. Since this formula is not water-resistant, reapplication after any moisture contact is essential.
Who is it for?
WHOPerfect for you if:
- You have sensitive, reactive, or blemish-prone skin
- You want SPF and brightening (niacinamide) in one step
- You're a K-beauty enthusiast who hates white cast
- Your skin needs daily calming and barrier support
- You're dealing with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
- You layer sunscreen under makeup and need a non-pilling base
- You want a dermatologist-backed, clinically tested formula
Consider alternatives if:
- You have confirmed Malassezia folliculitis (fungal acne)
- You are pregnant and prefer a mineral-only sunscreen
- You need a water-resistant sunscreen for swimming or sports
- You prefer a matte, oil-controlling finish (oily skin may shine)
- You are located in the US/Canada and require FDA-regulated filters only
- You want purely physical/mineral UV protection
Skin type compatibility
SKIN TYPESDesigned specifically for sensitive skin. Fragrance-free, hypoallergenic-tested, and loaded with cica actives that actively calm irritation and redness. The panthenol at 11,250 ppm even counteracts irritation from the UV filters themselves.
Clinically tested non-comedogenic. The niacinamide regulates sebum while cica complex reduces blemish-related inflammation. Named after the brand's bestselling blemish line — purpose-built for acne-prone skin. Note: not FA-safe for Malassezia folliculitis.
Clinical studies show 17.1% hydration improvement. High-dose panthenol, propanediol, pentylene glycol, and biosaccharide gum provide layered moisture-binding. Formula feels like a moisturizing lotion — ideal for those who want their sunscreen to double as hydration.
Works well across T-zone and drier cheek areas. Lightweight texture doesn't overload oilier zones. Some users report a slight dewy finish on the T-zone by midday; blotting papers or a setting powder can address this.
The dewy/hydrating finish can appear shiny on very oily skin types. The formula is not oil-controlling. Those with significantly oily skin may prefer a mattifying sunscreen. Niacinamide helps with long-term sebum regulation but won't provide immediate matte coverage.

Budget-friendly alternatives (dupes)
DUPESThe most popular K-beauty SPF dupe with a similarly lightweight, dewy finish, broad-spectrum protection, and soothing ferment + rice complex. Key difference: BoJ contains mineral filter (zinc oxide) making it slightly more pregnancy-friendly but leaving a minor white cast on deeper skin tones. Less cica, but more probiotic focus.
Water-serum texture with heavy Centella Asiatica focus — closer to a cica-only formula without the 10-Complex variety. More watery and serum-like in texture. Excellent for acne and sensitive skin but less hydrating and lacks niacinamide brightening. Good option for those who prefer a thinner consistency.
Hydrating SPF with birch juice as hero ingredient instead of cica. Similarly lightweight and dewy finish with excellent moisturizing benefits. Lacks the proprietary 10-CICA complex and niacinamide of Dr.G, but offers comparable UV protection at a lower price point. Well-suited for dry-to-normal skin types.

Frequently asked questions
FAQUse with caution during pregnancy. This is a purely chemical sunscreen containing multiple organic UV filters including Ethylhexyl Triazone, Terephthalylidene Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid, DHHB, Polysilicone-15, and Tinosorb S. While none of these are definitively proven harmful in pregnancy, many OB-GYNs recommend erring on the side of mineral-only formulas (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) during pregnancy, as chemical sunscreen absorption through skin is a subject of ongoing research. The product does NOT contain retinoids, hydroquinone, or salicylic acid — the most definitively contraindicated ingredients. For breastfeeding, risk is considered lower due to reduced systemic absorption. Always consult your ob-gyn or midwife before using chemical sunscreens during pregnancy.
No — this product is NOT considered fungal acne (Malassezia folliculitis) safe. The formula contains several ingredients that can feed Malassezia yeast and trigger breakouts: Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate (fatty acid ester), Cetearyl Alcohol (C16-C18 fatty alcohol), Echium Plantagineum Seed Oil, Cardiospermum Halicacabum Extract (contains palmitic and oleic fatty acids), Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil Unsaponifiables, and the ferment complex (Lactobacillus Ferment, Yeast Ferment Extract). If you have confirmed Malassezia folliculitis, seek a dedicated FA-safe sunscreen. Note that the product does pass non-comedogenic testing for regular acne — the FA concern is specific to fungal/yeast-triggered acne.
Yes, this sunscreen is fully compatible with all of these actives when used correctly in your routine. Apply this sunscreen as the very last step of your AM routine, after any serums or treatments. For retinol: use retinol at night and apply this sunscreen every morning to protect retinol-sensitized skin from UV damage. For Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid): apply your Vitamin C serum first, allow it to absorb, then apply this sunscreen. The niacinamide in this formula is compatible with modern Vitamin C formulations. For AHA/BHA: use these exfoliants at night; always follow with SPF in the morning. This sunscreen provides excellent protection for exfoliant-sensitized skin. There are no ingredient conflicts between this sunscreen and any of these actives.
This sunscreen is best suited for sensitive, dry, normal, combination, and blemish-prone skin types. It was specifically formulated for sensitive and blemish-prone skin and is clinically certified hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic. The dewy, hydrating finish makes it particularly ideal for dry skin. Combination skin types also benefit well, especially those with dry patches. For very oily skin types who prefer a matte finish, the dewy finish may feel too hydrating mid-day — a mattifying powder on top can help. Those with confirmed fungal acne (Malassezia folliculitis) should avoid this formula and seek FA-safe alternatives.
Results vary by concern. Immediate (Day 1): skin feels soothed, hydrated, and looks even-toned with no white cast. Week 1–2: visible reduction in redness and irritation from the 10-CICA complex — Dr.G's clinical study showed a 12.9% reduction in sun-triggered skin irritation. Week 2–4: niacinamide begins visibly brightening skin and fading post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Month 2–3: long-term barrier strengthening leads to reduced reactivity and fewer blemishes. The UV protection itself works from the very first application, preventing cumulative sun damage that causes premature aging and hyperpigmentation. Consistent daily use is key — photoprotection is the single most evidence-backed anti-aging measure available.
This sunscreen is always the final step of your morning (AM) skincare routine. Apply it after your cleanser, toner, essence, serum, ampoule, eye cream, and moisturizer. Sunscreen must go on last because anything applied on top of it can dilute the UV filters and reduce SPF effectiveness. Allow your moisturizer to absorb for 1–2 minutes before applying this sunscreen. Apply at least 10–15 minutes before going outdoors to allow the chemical UV filters to bond with skin. Do NOT apply this product in your evening (PM) routine — SPF is only needed during daytime UV exposure. If you wear makeup, apply foundation and other makeup products on top of the sunscreen after it has absorbed.
No — this product has passed official non-comedogenic clinical testing (comedogenicity patch test conducted by Dr.G's research partner). Its comedogenic rating is approximately 1/5. Despite containing some ingredients that score higher on comedogenicity scales in isolation (such as Cetearyl Alcohol), the overall formulation has been validated to not clog pores in real-world use conditions. This is why the product is specifically marketed as suitable for blemish-prone skin. That said, individual skin responses vary — if you're extremely breakout-prone, a patch test on the jaw or neck for a few days before full-face application is always advisable when trying any new product.
The period after opening (PAO) is 12 months. Look for the open-jar symbol on the packaging — it shows "12M," meaning use within 12 months of first opening. The sealed, unopened shelf life is 36 months from the manufacturing date. After 12 months, UV filter efficacy can degrade even if the product looks and smells normal, meaning your skin may receive less sun protection than the label states. For daily full-face use (approximately 1.25ml per application, twice a day including reapplication), a 50ml bottle will last approximately 3–4 weeks — well within the PAO. Write the opening date on the bottle to keep track.
Verdict: The Dr.G Red Blemish Soothing Up Sun SPF50+ PA++++ earns its reputation as one of the most well-formulated K-beauty sunscreens available. Backed by dermatologist expertise, it combines five best-in-class UV filters (including the exclusive Mexoryl SX) with a comprehensive 10-CICA soothing complex and brightening niacinamide — delivering a genuinely multi-functional product with clinical proof behind each claim. The dewy, moisturizer-like texture and zero white cast make it one of the most comfortable sunscreens to wear daily. It is not ideal for those with Malassezia folliculitis, very oily skin types wanting mattification, or those seeking a water-resistant formula. But for sensitive, blemish-prone, dry, or combination skin looking for premium daily photoprotection with visible skincare benefits, this is an exceptional choice.

Quick Product Notes
Ever used a product that promised a certain effect but provided no results? It might not have contained any notable ingredients that could have been responsible for that promised effect. It doesn't matter what the marketing or packaging «promises» it can do, if it doesn't contain anything that can help - then the likelihood of it helping is low.

Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.
EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
