Clinical studies confirm the formula strengthens the skin barrier in just one week, reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

0.5% Colloidal Oatmeal (OTC)

FDA-recognized skin protectant that treats eczema symptoms, soothes itch, and accelerates skin renewal at the maximum OTC concentration.

Ceramide NP + Squalane Barrier Complex

Skin-identical lipids replenish the intercellular cement of the stratum corneum, sealing in moisture and blocking environmental aggressors.

Sensitive Skin Approved

Allergy-tested, fragrance-free, and recognized by the National Rosacea Society. Safe for reactive, post-procedure, and infant skin.

Safety & compatibility

SAFE
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Safe

No retinoids, salicylic acid, hydroquinone, or chemical UV filters. Fragrance-free formula with no known pregnancy-contraindicated actives. Safe for use throughout all trimesters.

Fungal Acne (Malassezia) — Use with Caution

Contains Stearic Acid (C18:0), Cetearyl Alcohol, and Glyceryl Stearate — fatty acid esters that may feed Malassezia yeast. Not recommended for those actively managing fungal acne on the face.

Non-Comedogenic — Rated 1/5

Clinically tested as non-comedogenic. Key film-formers (Dimethicone, Squalane) rate 0-1 on the comedogenic scale. Safe for most acne-prone skin; patch test recommended for clog-sensitive types.

Sensitive & Rosacea-Prone Skin

Recognized by the National Rosacea Society. Allergy-tested, free from common irritants including fragrance, dyes, and drying alcohols. Suitable for reactive and compromised skin barriers.

Eczema OTC Drug

Contains 0.5% Colloidal Oatmeal, an FDA-approved OTC drug ingredient for the temporary protection and relief of minor skin irritation, itching, and rashes due to eczema.

Eucalyptus Oil Note

Listed last in the INCI (low concentration). Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil is generally well tolerated but may cause minor irritation for extremely reactive individuals. Patch test advised for very sensitive skin.

Retinol / AHA / BHA Compatible

Calming, barrier-supporting formula makes it an excellent post-exfoliant moisturizer. Use after chemical exfoliants to soothe and hydrate without any ingredient conflicts.

Safe for All Ages Including Infants

The brand confirms this product is suitable for all ages, including very young children and infants. Fragrance-free, gentle formula is ideal for pediatric dry skin and eczema management.

Ingredient breakdown

INGREDIENTS

Colloidal Oatmeal 0.5% OTCProven

The star active ingredient and FDA-recognized OTC skin protectant. Finely milled whole oat kernels containing beta-glucan, avenanthramides, and phenolic compounds that synergistically soothe, protect, and restore the skin barrier.

  • Barrier repair: Beta-glucan forms a protective film reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL)
  • Anti-inflammatory: Avenanthramides inhibit NF-kB activation, reducing itch and redness signals
  • Eczema treatment: FDA-approved OTC active at 0.5–2% for temporary relief of itch and minor skin irritation
  • Antioxidant: Rich in phenolic compounds that neutralize free radicals and environmental stressors
Supported by decades of clinical dermatology research for atopic dermatitis and sensitive skin conditions.

Ceramide NP (Ceramide 3) Low-Mid %Proven

A skin-identical lipid that is a natural component of the stratum corneum. Ceramides make up ~50% of the intercellular lipid matrix and are critical for barrier integrity, hydration retention, and protection against irritants.

  • Barrier function: Replenishes depleted lipids in the skin's protective envelope
  • Hydration retention: Reduces TEWL by reinforcing the "mortar" between skin cells
  • Eczema connection: Ceramide levels are significantly reduced in atopic dermatitis skin — topical application shows clinical benefit
Works synergistically with Colloidal Oatmeal to provide dual-action barrier support.

Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter Mid %Proven

Cold-pressed butter from African Shea tree seeds, rich in oleic acid (40–60%), stearic acid (20–50%), and triterpene alcohols. A powerful occlusive and emollient that seals in moisture while delivering anti-inflammatory phytonutrients.

  • Emollient: Softens and smooths skin surface; reduces roughness and flakiness
  • Anti-inflammatory: Lupeol and other triterpenes reduce skin inflammation
  • Antioxidant: Contains vitamins A, E, F, quercetin, and epigallocatechin gallate
Contains fatty acids that may not be suitable for those managing fungal acne. Generally safe for most skin types at typical cosmetic concentrations.

Squalane Mid %Proven

A stable, plant-derived (typically sugarcane or olive) hydrocarbon oil that is skin-identical. Mimics the skin's natural squalene to restore suppleness, elasticity, and moisture without oxidizing or clogging pores.

  • Comedogenic rating: 0–1 — extremely unlikely to clog pores
  • Emollient: Penetrates quickly, leaving skin soft without greasy residue
  • Antioxidant: Protects cell membranes from lipid peroxidation
One of the most universally tolerated emollients — safe for oily, sensitive, and fungal-acne-prone skin.

Glycerin Top 3 %Proven

A skin-identical humectant derived from vegetable oils. Draws water from both the environment and deeper skin layers to the surface, providing immediate and sustained hydration. One of the most extensively studied moisturizing ingredients.

  • Hydration: Effective from as low as 3%; benefits increase up to 20–40% concentration
  • Barrier repair: Keeps skin lipids in a healthy liquid-crystal state
  • Antimicrobial: Demonstrates mild antimicrobial and antiviral properties at higher concentrations

Allantoin Low %Proven

A naturally occurring compound derived from the comfrey plant root. Promotes cell proliferation, accelerates wound healing, and soothes irritated skin. A go-to ingredient for calming redness and roughness.

  • Keratolytic: Gently loosens and removes dead skin cells, revealing smoother skin
  • Healing: Stimulates cell renewal and reduces the appearance of irritated patches
  • Comedogenicity: Rated 0 — safe for all skin types

Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract Low %Promising

Rich in polyphenols — particularly EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) — green tea extract provides potent antioxidant defense against UV-induced free radicals and environmental oxidative stress.

  • Antioxidant: EGCG is one of the most powerful natural antioxidants studied in dermatology
  • Anti-inflammatory: Inhibits pro-inflammatory cytokine production
  • Photoprotection: Reduces UV-induced DNA damage when used alongside SPF

Chrysanthemum Parthenium (Feverfew) Extract Low %Promising

A parthenolide-depleted extract of the Feverfew plant that delivers anti-redness and anti-irritation benefits without the sensitizing parthenolide compound. Particularly effective for calming rosacea and reactive skin.

  • Anti-redness: Clinical studies show reduction in facial redness and flushing
  • Antioxidant: Protects against environmental stressors
  • Parthenolide-free: This extract is specifically depleted of the allergen parthenolide for maximum safety

Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract Low %Promising

Derived from licorice root, this extract contains glabridin, a powerful brightening agent and anti-inflammatory compound. Helps even skin tone, reduces post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), and soothes sensitivity.

  • Brightening: Glabridin inhibits tyrosinase activity to reduce melanin overproduction
  • Anti-inflammatory: Inhibits cyclooxygenase and reduces prostaglandin production
  • Synergy: Works alongside Feverfew Extract to calm redness and support even complexion

How to use

HOW TO USE
1

Cleanse & Prep

Begin with a gentle, non-stripping cleanser. Pat skin almost dry — slightly damp skin enhances the cream's humectant absorption and delivers superior hydration results.

2

Apply Serums First (If Using)

Layer any targeted serums (Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide) before the cream. These thinner formulas need skin contact before the richer occlusive base is applied.

3

Dispense a Pea-to-Dime Sized Amount

For face use, a pea-to-dime sized amount is sufficient. The rich, concentrated formula goes further than it appears. Warm between fingertips before applying.

4

Press & Blend Into Skin

Press (don't rub) the cream into face and neck using gentle upward motions. For body, massage into dry areas — elbows, knees, heels — with firm, circular movements.

5

Allow 60 Seconds to Absorb (AM)

In the morning, allow approximately 60 seconds before applying sunscreen or makeup. The whipped texture fully sinks in without pilling under other products.

6

Use AM & PM or As Needed

Apply once or twice daily for best results. For very dry or eczema-prone areas, apply generously as needed throughout the day. Safe for continuous daily use.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ

Yes — First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream is considered safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The formula contains no retinoids (retinol, tretinoin), salicylic acid at high concentrations, hydroquinone, chemical UV filters (oxybenzone, octinoxate), or any other ingredients typically flagged as pregnancy-contraindicated. It is fragrance-free, allergy-tested, and free from parabens and phthalates. However, we always recommend consulting your OB-GYN or dermatologist for personalized guidance, especially if you have specific skin conditions.

This product requires caution for those actively managing fungal acne (malassezia folliculitis). It contains several ingredients that can feed Malassezia yeast, including Stearic Acid (a long-chain fatty acid), Cetearyl Alcohol (a fatty alcohol), Glyceryl Stearate, and Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (an ester). These are listed relatively high in the INCI, making the risk non-trivial. If you have confirmed fungal acne on your face, this product is not recommended as a facial moisturizer. For body use or areas without active fungal acne, the risk is lower. Consider CeraVe SA Smoothing Cream or a squalane-only moisturizer as safer alternatives for fungal acne-prone skin.

Yes — Ultra Repair Cream pairs exceptionally well with active ingredients. It is specifically an excellent recovery and barrier-support moisturizer to use after chemical exfoliants (AHA, BHA, PHAs) or alongside retinoids. The Colloidal Oatmeal, Ceramide NP, and Allantoin help buffer and soothe potential irritation from strong actives. For retinol routines, apply retinol first, wait a few minutes, then apply URC on top to cushion sensitivity. For Vitamin C serums, apply Vitamin C first and allow to absorb, then follow with URC. No known ingredient conflicts with any of these actives.

Ultra Repair Cream is best suited for dry, very dry, sensitive, and eczema-prone skin. It is clinically designed and proven for compromised or distressed skin conditions. Normal skin types also benefit greatly from its barrier-strengthening properties. Combination skin users often use it selectively on dry zones. It is generally too rich for oily skin when used over the entire face — oily-skinned individuals may prefer applying it only to dry patches or using it as a body moisturizer. It is suitable for all ages, including children and infants.

You will notice improved hydration and skin softness immediately upon first application — clinical measurements show a 169% increase in skin moisture right away. Visible reduction in itch, flakiness, and redness typically occurs within the first 1–3 days. The most significant milestone is week 1: clinical data confirms measurable skin barrier strengthening in 7 days of consistent twice-daily use. For chronic eczema or severely compromised skin, noticeable improvement in barrier resilience and reduction in flare frequency typically becomes evident between weeks 2 and 4 of consistent daily use.

Ultra Repair Cream is applied as your moisturizing step — after cleansing, toning, and any targeted serums or treatments, but before sunscreen (in the AM). For a complete routine: (1) Cleanser → (2) Toner/Essence → (3) Serum/Treatment → (4) Ultra Repair Cream → (5) SPF (morning only). In the PM routine, it is applied as the final step after all other products. Apply to slightly damp skin for maximum hydration absorption. For body use, apply generously post-shower while skin is still slightly damp.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream is clinically tested and marketed as non-comedogenic, with an overall comedogenic rating of approximately 1/5. Key emollient ingredients like Squalane (0–1) and Dimethicone (0) are among the least pore-clogging in skincare. Shea Butter is rated 0–2 depending on processing. For the vast majority of users, this product will not cause or worsen breakouts. However, comedogenicity is also individual — some users with sebaceous hyperplasia, highly clog-prone pores, or certain hormonal acne types may react differently. Patch testing on a small area before full facial application is always recommended.

The Period After Opening (PAO) for First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream is 12 months — you'll see the "12M" symbol (an open jar icon) on the packaging. The 6oz tub used daily for face and body typically lasts 1–2 months for an individual user, and 3–4 months when used only on the face. To maximize shelf life, always use clean hands or a spatula to scoop product, keep the lid tightly closed between uses, and store away from direct sunlight and heat. Discard if you notice any change in smell, color, or texture.

— Skincarisma verdict
4.6 / 5 ★★★★★

Verdict: First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration is one of the most comprehensively validated drugstore-to-prestige crossover moisturizers available. Its FDA OTC drug status for eczema — backed by clinically proven 169% immediate hydration boost and 7-day barrier strengthening data — places it in a category above most cosmetic-only moisturizers. The clean, fragrance-free, allergy-tested formula is suitable for nearly everyone, from infants to eczema sufferers to pregnant users. The rich, whipped texture absorbs faster than its density suggests and doesn't pill under makeup. The only notable limitations are its unsuitability for fungal acne-prone skin and the open-jar packaging. For anyone managing dry, sensitive, or eczema-prone skin, this remains one of the most clinically reliable and dermatologist-recommended moisturizers on the market.

lightbulb What is the Ingredient Safety Breakdown?

Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.

muscle Pro Tip Alert!

EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
