๐ก๏ธ Safety & Compatibility
Generally considered safe โ no retinoids, hydroquinone, or high-dose salicylic acid. However, Tranexamic Acid lacks sufficient human pregnancy safety data. Consult your OB/GYN before use during pregnancy or nursing.
Not considered fungal acne safe. Contains Bifida Ferment Lysate (a ferment that may feed Malassezia), Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, and Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride โ ingredients that can potentially aggravate fungal acne.
Very low clogging risk. The formula is predominantly water-based with minimal comedogenic oils. Soybean Oil has a rating of 2, but is used in very low concentrations. Generally well-tolerated by acne-prone skin.
Uses stabilized Vitamin C derivatives (3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid) instead of pure L-Ascorbic Acid, minimizing oxidation and irritation. Skin irritation test completed. pH 6.2 is gentle and skin-friendly.
Free from artificial fragrances, colors, parabens, sulfates, animal-derived ingredients, alcohol, and mineral oils โ a clean formula well-suited to daily use.
Contains naturally scented essential oils: Orange Peel Oil, Grapefruit Peel Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, and Lavender Oil. These appear at low concentrations but may irritate those with essential oil sensitivities. Patch test recommended.
๐ฌ Ingredient Breakdown
๐ Hippophae Rhamnoides Water (Sea Buckthorn Water) ~24.48% Proven
Sea Buckthorn Fruit Water is the second ingredient by concentration, making it a cornerstone of this formula. Rich in Vitamin C, carotenoids, and flavonoids, it delivers antioxidant protection, brightening, and soothing benefits. Missha sources this at a high 24.48% concentration for maximum efficacy.
- Brightening: Natural source of Vitamin C and carotenoids that help counteract dullness and even out skin tone
- Antioxidant: High in flavonoids and phenolic compounds that neutralize free-radical damage from UV and pollution
- Barrier Support: Contains omega fatty acids and phytosterols that reinforce and hydrate the skin barrier
๐ 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid (Ethyl Ascorbyl Ether) 15,000ppm / ~1.5% Proven
A highly stable Vitamin C derivative that converts to L-Ascorbic Acid upon skin penetration. Unlike pure Vitamin C, it is resistant to oxidation, does not cause stinging, and works at a higher pH โ making it ideal for sensitive skin. At 15,000ppm (1.5%), it provides meaningful brightening without the instability of L-Ascorbic Acid.
- Stability: Significantly more stable than L-Ascorbic Acid; resists oxidation and color change in formula
- Brightening: Inhibits tyrosinase enzyme to reduce melanin synthesis and fade dark spots
- Anti-aging: Boosts collagen synthesis and provides photoprotective antioxidant activity
โช Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) ~1.7โ2.0% Proven
One of the most clinically validated multitasking actives in skincare. Missha's formulation provides a skin-barrier-supporting concentration (approximately 2%) effective for brightening and tone-evening, while remaining gentle enough for daily use on sensitive skin types.
- Brightening: Inhibits melanosome transfer from melanocytes to keratinocytes, reducing the appearance of dark spots
- Barrier Repair: Stimulates ceramide synthesis, strengthening the skin's protective barrier
- Pore-Minimizing: Clinically shown to regulate sebum production and visibly reduce pore appearance
- Anti-inflammatory: Reduces redness and calms inflammatory acne lesions
๐ฑ Glycyrrhiza Uralensis Root Extract (Licorice Root) Top-listed (HIGH) Proven
Listed as the first ingredient in the original Korean formulation, indicating a very high concentration. Contains Glabridin and Liquiritin โ powerful tyrosinase inhibitors and antioxidants that brighten the complexion, reduce inflammation, and protect against UV-induced pigmentation.
- Brightening: Glabridin inhibits UVB-induced pigmentation without affecting collagen synthesis
- Anti-inflammatory: Licorice root has documented anti-inflammatory properties comparable to hydrocortisone in some studies
- Antioxidant: Protects skin cells from oxidative stress and prevents photoaging
๐ฌ Tranexamic Acid Functional dose (~2โ3%) Proven
A prescription-derived brightening active now widely used in cosmetics. Tranexamic Acid blocks the interaction between keratinocytes and melanocytes, addressing the root cause of hyperpigmentation. Clinical studies show efficacy comparable to 2% hydroquinone for melasma with a much better safety profile.
- Melasma & PIH: Inhibits plasminogen-keratinocyte interactions that trigger melanin overproduction
- Redness Reduction: Reduces vascular components of pigmentation and post-inflammatory redness
- Synergy: Works synergistically with Niacinamide and Arbutin for enhanced depigmentation
๐ธ Arbutin Effective dose (~1โ2%) Proven
A naturally derived tyrosinase inhibitor derived from bearberry and other plants. Arbutin slowly releases hydroquinone upon skin penetration, producing a gentle yet effective brightening action without the risks associated with pure hydroquinone use.
- Mechanism: Competitive inhibition of tyrosinase enzyme, slowing melanin synthesis
- Safety: Well-tolerated even by sensitive skin; does not cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
๐ Fullerenes (C60) Trace/Functional Promising
A cutting-edge carbon-based antioxidant molecule known to be up to 172x more potent than Vitamin C as a free-radical scavenger. Fullerenes protect skin cells from UV-induced oxidative damage and have demonstrated anti-aging and anti-pigmentation properties in emerging research.
- Antioxidant Power: Uniquely able to quench multiple free radicals simultaneously, unlike most antioxidants
- Anti-aging: Reduces UV-induced wrinkle formation and protects against photoaging
- Brightening: Inhibits melanin production by reducing oxidative triggers in melanocytes
๐ง Hyaluronic Acid Complex 3 Molecular Weights Proven
Comprises Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, and Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid โ each at a different molecular size to hydrate different layers of the skin. This multi-depth hydration approach ensures both surface smoothing and deeper long-lasting moisture retention.
- Surface hydration: High-molecular HA forms a film on the skin surface to lock in moisture
- Deep hydration: Low-molecular (hydrolyzed) HA penetrates deeper to hydrate from within
- Plumping effect: Holds up to 1,000x its weight in water, visibly plumping fine lines
๐งฌ Peptide Complex (Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 + Acetyl Hexapeptide-8) Functional dose Promising
Two complementary peptides target skin firmness from different angles. Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 (Syn-Coll) stimulates collagen Type I production and activates TGF-ฮฒ. Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 (Argireline) acts as a neuromodulator, relaxing expression lines for a smoother appearance.
- Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5: Manufacturer study showed 12% reduction in wrinkles after 84 days at 2.5% concentration
- Acetyl Hexapeptide-8: Inhibits neuromuscular junction signals, reducing dynamic wrinkle depth
- Collagen boost: Both peptides support collagen production for improved skin elasticity
๐ก๏ธ Ceramide NP ~0.3โ0.55% Proven
An essential skin-identical lipid that restores and reinforces the skin's natural barrier. Ceramide NP (N-stearoyl phytosphingosine) helps seal moisture in, reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and protect against environmental stressors and irritants.
- Barrier function: Replenishes ceramides depleted by aging, over-cleansing, and UV damage
- TEWL reduction: Creates a lipid bilayer structure that limits moisture evaporation
- Sensitivity relief: Restoring ceramide levels reduces skin sensitivity and reactivity

Cleanse Your Skin
Begin with a gentle cleanser to remove impurities, sunscreen, and excess oil. Pat your face dry with a clean towel.
Apply Toner (Optional)
Use a hydrating toner to prep and balance your skin's pH, enhancing absorption of the ampoule's active ingredients.
Dispense the Ampoule
Using the dropper, pump 2โ3 drops onto your fingertips or directly onto the face. A little goes a long way โ start with a small amount to assess your skin's response.
Apply to Face & Neck
Spread evenly across cheeks, forehead, nose, chin, and neck, following your skin's natural texture. Gently pat for better absorption โ avoid rubbing or dragging.
Targeted Spot Treatment (Optional)
For stubborn dark spots, blemish marks, or areas of concern around the eyes, mouth, jaw, and C-zone, apply a second layer directly to those areas for concentrated care.

Follow with your regular moisturizer to lock in the ampoule's active ingredients and maintain hydration throughout the day. In the AM, finish with broad-spectrum SPF 30+.
๐ค Who Is It For?
โ Perfect for you if:
- You have dark spots, melasma, sun damage, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)
- Your skin is dull, uneven, or lacks radiance and you want a visible glow
- You're looking for a gentle Vitamin C alternative that won't sting or oxidize
- Your skin is losing firmness and you want anti-aging support alongside brightening
- You have sensitive skin that reacts to pure L-Ascorbic Acid serums
- You want a multitasking ampoule that covers hydration, firming, and brightening in one step
โ Consider alternatives if:
- You have confirmed fungal acne (Malassezia folliculitis) โ ferment and fatty acid content may aggravate
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding without consulting your doctor (Tranexamic Acid data is limited)
- You require a high-concentration pure Vitamin C (10%+) formula for aggressive hyperpigmentation treatment
- You are sensitive to essential oils (Orange, Grapefruit, Lavender, Eucalyptus are present)
- You prefer a fragrance-free formula with no naturally scented botanicals at all
๐ฏ Skin Type Compatibility
Lightweight water-based gel formula absorbs instantly without adding heaviness or excess shine. Niacinamide actively regulates sebum production for better oil control over time.
Multi-level hyaluronic acid complex and glycerin provide meaningful hydration, but dry skin types may want to layer a richer moisturizer on top for full comfort, especially in dry climates.
Balances perfectly across T-zone and drier cheek areas. The lightweight texture doesn't overload oily zones while still delivering hydration and actives to drier patches.
Formulated with stabilized Vitamin C derivatives rather than irritating L-Ascorbic Acid, making it markedly gentler. However, the natural essential oils may cause reactions in highly reactive skin โ patch test first.
Very low comedogenic rating (1/5). Niacinamide, Allantoin, and Tranexamic Acid actively help fade post-acne marks. Note: contains Bifida Ferment Lysate and soybean oil โ avoid if you have confirmed fungal acne.
A top pick for aging skin โ the peptide complex, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Ceramide, Fullerenes, and multi-level Vitamin C work together to address fine lines, sagging, dullness, and age spots comprehensively.

โ Frequently Asked Questions
This ampoule does not contain retinoids, hydroquinone, or high-dose salicylic acid โ the most commonly restricted ingredients during pregnancy. However, it contains Tranexamic Acid, a prescription-derived active that lacks sufficient clinical safety data for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The essential oils (Orange Peel, Lavender, Eucalyptus) present in the formula are also generally used with caution during pregnancy. We recommend consulting your OB/GYN or dermatologist before use if you are pregnant or nursing to ensure it is appropriate for your individual health circumstances.
No โ this ampoule is not considered fungal acne (Malassezia folliculitis) safe. It contains several ingredients that may feed Malassezia yeast, including Bifida Ferment Lysate (a fermented ingredient), Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, and Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (a fatty acid ester). If you are managing active fungal acne, we recommend selecting a fungal-acne-safe Vitamin C alternative such as The Ordinary Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% or COSRX Pure Vitamin C 13% Serum, and consulting a dermatologist for a comprehensive treatment plan.
This ampoule uses a stabilized Vitamin C derivative (3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid) at pH 6.2, making it far less likely to interact negatively with other actives compared to pure L-Ascorbic Acid. You can generally use it alongside retinol and AHAs/BHAs by separating their application (e.g., use the Missha ampoule in the AM and retinol at night). Avoid layering multiple Vitamin C products simultaneously to prevent active overload. If combining with acids (AHA/BHA), ensure your skin is well-adjusted to each active individually before layering. Always apply SPF during the day, especially when using brightening actives.
This ampoule is exceptionally well-suited to oily, combination, and mature skin types looking for brightening and firming. Its lightweight, fast-absorbing gel-liquid texture works beautifully on oily and combination skin without leaving a greasy residue. For dry skin, it provides meaningful hydration but may benefit from being layered under a richer moisturizer. Sensitive skin can generally tolerate it well thanks to the stabilized Vitamin C form โ though a patch test is recommended due to the natural essential oils. It is specifically recommended by Missha for aging or dull skin with dark spots.
Results vary by skin concern. Most users notice an immediate improvement in radiance and hydration from the first application due to the Sea Buckthorn Water and Hyaluronic Acid complex. Brightening and spot-fading results from Niacinamide and Tranexamic Acid typically become visible after 2โ4 weeks of consistent daily use. Significant improvement in stubborn dark spots and melasma may require 6โ12 weeks of regular use. Anti-aging and firming benefits from the peptide complex generally require at least 6โ8 weeks of twice-daily use to become apparent. For best results, always pair with SPF to prevent new pigmentation and protect active ingredients.
Apply this ampoule as Step 3 in your routine โ after cleansing and toning, but before heavier serums, eye creams, and moisturizers. The general skincare layering principle is thinnest to thickest consistency. Since this is a lightweight ampoule, it should be applied before any thicker serums or emulsions. It is formulated for both morning and evening use. When used in the morning, always follow with a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) to protect the brightening actives and prevent further UV-induced pigmentation.
The Missha Vita C Plus Ampoule has a very low comedogenic rating of 1 out of 5. The formula is predominantly water-based with minimal concentrations of potentially pore-clogging ingredients. Soybean Oil (comedogenic rating 2) is present but used in very low amounts. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, while appearing as a carrier, is generally considered non-comedogenic at typical cosmetic use levels. Overall, this ampoule is considered suitable for acne-prone skin from a pore-clogging perspective โ though those with active fungal acne should avoid it as noted above.
The Period After Opening (PAO) is 12 months. For best results and maximum efficacy of the Vitamin C actives and peptides, aim to use the product within 6โ9 months of opening for peak potency. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. The dark opaque bottle helps protect the formula from light-induced oxidation. Some natural discoloration (a slight yellowing or orange tinge) may occur over time as Vitamin C naturally oxidizes โ this is normal and the product remains safe to use. Refrigeration is optional but recommended to extend freshness.
Verdict: The Missha Vita C Plus Spot Correcting & Firming Ampoule stands out as one of the most comprehensive and well-formulated brightening ampoules available in its price range. Rather than relying on a single active ingredient, Missha has constructed a genuinely sophisticated formula: a 5-active brightening complex (Tranexamic Acid, Arbutin, Niacinamide ~2%, Licorice Root, and Ethyl Ascorbyl Ether at 15,000ppm), a dual-peptide firming system, a multi-depth Hyaluronic Acid complex, Ceramide NP for barrier support, and the premium addition of Fullerenes โ a powerful antioxidant rarely found at this price point. The proprietary 33% Vita C Liposome delivery system further enhances bioavailability. The key advantages over many competitors are its excellent tolerability (stabilized Vitamin C, pH 6.2, no artificial fragrance), multitasking efficacy, and outstanding value. The main limitations are its unsuitability for fungal acne sufferers, the need for a medical consult during pregnancy, and the relatively lower Vitamin C potency compared to clinical-grade L-Ascorbic Acid serums. For anyone seeking a gentle, effective, and multi-action daily brightening and firming treatment, this ampoule is a highly recommended addition to any K-beauty routine.

Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.
EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
