SENSORY84% Watermelon Base
The formula is built on watermelon fruit extract — rich in vitamins A, B, C, E, amino acids citrulline and arginine, plus lycopene for potent antioxidant defense against free radicals.
Bi-Phase Hydration Technology
A nourishing oil layer (watermelon seed, rice germ, pumpkin seed, sunflower oils) floats above water-based actives. Shaking fuses them into a unified hydration haze that softens and smooths.
Hibiscus AHA Complex
Hibiscus Sabdariffa Flower Extract naturally contains alpha-hydroxy acids that gently exfoliate surface texture, soften skin, and prime it for optimal makeup application and absorption.
Apple Cider Vinegar Balance
A small, diluted percentage of ACV (Acetum) helps tone skin, manage excess oil production, and maintain a healthy pH balance — especially beneficial for oily and combination skin types.
Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Acid
Sodium Hyaluronate and Polyglutamic Acid work as a complementary duo: hyaluronic acid draws moisture deep into the dermis, while polyglutamic acid locks it in for extended plumping effect.
Soothing Botanicals Blend
Centella Asiatica, Scutellaria Baicalensis (Baikal Skullcap), Beta-Glucan, and Licorice Root Extract work together to calm inflammation, reduce redness, and support a resilient skin barrier.
Safety & compatibility
SAFENo retinoids, salicylic acid, hydroquinone, or chemical sunscreens are present. However, the product contains Fragrance/Parfum and Limonene (a potential sensitizer), plus diluted AHA from Hibiscus. Consult your OB/GYN before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding as a general precaution with fragranced products.
Contains multiple ingredients that can feed Malassezia yeast: Sorbitan Oleate (a fatty acid ester), Citrullus Lanatus Seed Oil, Cucurbita Pepo (Pumpkin) Seed Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Germ Oil, and Fructooligosaccharides. Those managing fungal acne (pityrosporum folliculitis) should avoid this product.
Despite containing several plant oils, they appear in a highly diluted mist format. Key oils have low comedogenic ratings: Watermelon Seed Oil (0–1), Sunflower Seed Oil (0–2), Rice Germ Oil (1). The overall product poses minimal pore-clogging risk for most skin types.
Free from parabens, sulfates, silicones, phthalates, mineral oil, drying alcohols, and synthetic dyes. Beta-Glucan and Centella Asiatica provide active soothing support. Note: contains Fragrance/Parfum and Limonene — patch test recommended for very reactive or fragrance-sensitive skin.
Alcohol-free, non-comedogenic, and formulated with antimicrobial Moringa seed extract. ACV (apple cider vinegar) helps regulate oil production. However, due to the oils and Sorbitan Oleate, those with fungal acne specifically should avoid this formula.
Contains Fragrance/Parfum, Benzyl Benzoate, and Limonene — all listed EU allergens per cosmetic regulations. The watermelon scent is noticeable and classified as a fragrance by INCI standards. Fragrance-sensitive individuals should approach with caution and conduct a patch test before full use.
Ingredient breakdown
INGREDIENTSCitrullus Lanatus (Watermelon) Fruit Extract 84%Proven
The star and base of this formula, watermelon extract delivers a comprehensive cocktail of skin-beneficial compounds. It is rich in vitamins A, B, C, and E, along with mineral salts (potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron), amino acids (citrulline, arginine, glutathione), and the antioxidant carotenoid lycopene. These components work synergistically to hydrate, brighten, and shield skin from environmental oxidative damage.
- In-vivo study: Watermelon formula showed 25% increase in skin protection compared to placebo in clinical testing.
- Lycopene benefit: A potent antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals and helps soothe inflammation.
- Amino acids: Citrulline and arginine support the skin's natural repair and hydration processes.
Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid) est. 0.1–1%Proven
A salt form of hyaluronic acid with a smaller molecular weight, allowing deeper penetration into the skin layers. Acts as a powerful humectant, capable of drawing and holding up to 1,000 times its weight in water from the atmosphere and deeper skin layers into the upper epidermis. Delivers instant plumping and lasting hydration throughout the day.
- Mechanism: High-MW HA (500+ kDa) acts as a surface hydrator and osmotic pump for water-soluble actives.
- Complementary: Paired with Polyglutamic Acid (PGA) which forms a hydration-locking film on skin's surface, extending HA's moisture-binding effect.
Hibiscus Sabdariffa Flower Extract est. trace–0.5%Proven
Known as the "botox plant," Hibiscus Sabdariffa naturally contains fruit acids (alpha-hydroxy acids) including citric and malic acid, which gently exfoliate surface dead skin cells, smooth texture irregularities, and improve skin's receptiveness to subsequent skincare products. Also provides antioxidant polyphenols and gentle mucilage for softening and hydration.
- AHA action: Hibiscus-derived AHAs work mildly at the skin's surface level, not penetrating as deeply as pure glycolic or lactic acid formulations.
- Mucilage compounds: Contribute to a soft, smooth after-feel and temporary filling of fine lines.
Oryza Sativa (Rice) Germ Oil est. trace–0.5%Proven
Rich in gamma-oryzanol, ferulic acid, vitamin E, and phytosterols, rice germ oil is a lightweight emollient that helps protect the skin barrier against UV-induced free radicals and environmental stressors. It has a low comedogenic rating (1/5) and softens skin without heaviness, making it well-suited to mist-format delivery.
- Ferulic acid: A potent antioxidant that enhances the stability and efficacy of vitamins C and E in formulations.
- Gamma-oryzanol: Shown to have UV-absorbing and anti-inflammatory properties.
Centella Asiatica Extract est. traceProven
A gold-standard K-beauty soothing ingredient (also known as Cica or Tiger Grass). Contains four key active phytonutrients — asiaticoside, madecassoside, asiatic acid, and madecassic acid — that collectively reduce inflammation, stimulate collagen synthesis, repair the skin barrier, and calm redness and irritation.
- Anti-inflammatory: Madecassoside inhibits NF-κB-mediated inflammatory pathways in skin cells.
- Wound healing: Asiaticoside promotes fibroblast proliferation and collagen production.
Beta-Glucan est. traceProven
A polysaccharide derived from oats or yeast that functions as both a humectant and a skin-calming agent. Beta-Glucan activates macrophages in the skin to boost immunity and accelerate repair, while simultaneously delivering deep, sustained hydration. It forms a smooth, breathable film on the skin surface that mimics hyaluronic acid's moisture-binding effect.
- Study backing: Clinical studies demonstrate Beta-Glucan reduces the depth of wrinkles by up to 20% with continued use.
- Immune modulation: Activates skin-resident immune cells to protect against environmental pathogens.
Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract est. traceProven
Contains glabridin, a flavonoid with clinically documented skin-brightening properties. Glabridin inhibits tyrosinase activity — the enzyme responsible for melanin synthesis — making licorice root a gentle, plant-based alternative to more aggressive brightening actives. Also delivers notable anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits.
- Brightening mechanism: Glabridin inhibits UVB-induced hyperpigmentation without cytotoxicity.
- Anti-inflammatory: Glycyrrhizin suppresses prostaglandin E2 production, reducing redness.
Polyglutamic Acid (PGA) est. tracePromising
A next-generation hydrating polymer that forms an invisible, breathable film on the skin surface, acting as a moisture-locking layer that prevents transepidermal water loss (TEWL). PGA can hold 4× more moisture than standard hyaluronic acid and works synergistically with HA to extend hydration longevity well beyond a single application.
- Moisture retention: PGA holds moisture up to 4× more effectively than hyaluronic acid per gram.
- Film-forming: Creates a hydration seal on skin's surface while remaining non-comedogenic.

Where it fits in your routine
ROUTINEUse as a toner after cleansing, or apply between every skincare step as a "mist sandwich" to lock in hydration and boost ingredient absorption. Also excellent as a makeup prep and mid-day refresh.Always shake the bottle well before each use to blend the bi-phase formula.
How to use
HOW TO USEShake Well Before Every Use
The formula separates into two distinct layers — a nourishing oil phase and a water-based active phase. Give the bottle a firm shake for 3–5 seconds each time to fully combine both phases before spraying. This is essential for the bi-phase formula to work correctly.
Position the Bottle at the Correct Distance
Hold the bottle 8–10 inches away from your face for a diffused, all-over mist. For maximum dewy hydration, hold it closer to the skin. For makeup setting or a more controlled mist, keep it at arm's length (about 6 inches). Adjust distance based on your skin type and desired effect.
Spray 2–3 Times in a Sweeping Motion
Firmly press the nozzle and sweep across your face in a gentle back-and-forth motion. Two to three presses delivers an optimal coverage of ultra-fine droplets. Close your eyes and avoid spraying directly into eyes, mouth, or nose.
Let It Absorb — No Rubbing Required
Allow the mist to air-dry on your skin for full absorption — no patting or wiping needed. The formula absorbs within seconds, leaving skin feeling refreshed and luminous without any residue. You can then continue to the next step of your routine.
Use Throughout the Day as Needed
For oily/combination skin: spray once every few hours to refresh. For dry skin: hold it closer to the face and apply two spritzes every two hours. Over makeup: hold at least 6 inches from skin. Use to prime eyeshadow brushes for more vibrant color payoff — it's alcohol-free, so it won't break down pigments.
Who is it for?
WHOPerfect for you if:
- You want an all-day hydration refresh that works over or under makeup

- You need a matte or oil-controlling finish (this leans dewy)
- You're on a tight budget and need a larger bottle for daily use
Skin type compatibility
SKIN TYPESLightweight bi-phase formula delivers hydration without greasiness. Apple cider vinegar helps balance overactive sebum production. Spray at 6+ inches for a light, controlled mist that refreshes without adding shine.
Hyaluronic acid, polyglutamic acid, and emollient plant oils provide deep, layered hydration. Hold the nozzle closer to skin for maximum moisture delivery. Use frequently throughout the day to maintain comfort.
Ideal balance of hydrating actives and oil-regulating ACV. The ultra-fine mist adapts well across T-zone and cheek zones. Many combination-skin users cite this as their holy-grail daily refresh.
Centella Asiatica, Beta-Glucan, and Licorice Root soothe reactive skin effectively. However, Fragrance/Parfum and Limonene may irritate very reactive skin — a patch test on inner forearm for 24 hours is strongly recommended before full facial use.
Low comedogenic rating (1/5) and antimicrobial Moringa seed extract make this suitable for most acne-prone skin. Caution: Not suitable for fungal acne (Malassezia-related breakouts) due to oils and Sorbitan Oleate content.
Antioxidant-rich watermelon extract, Vitamin E (Tocopherol), and multi-level hydration with HA + PGA help plump fine lines and maintain moisture throughout the day. Best used as a complement to a dedicated anti-aging serum.

Frequently asked questions
FAQThe Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist does not contain retinoids, salicylic acid, hydroquinone, or chemical sunscreens — the most commonly restricted ingredients during pregnancy. However, it does contain Fragrance/Parfum and Limonene (a listed EU allergen), as well as mild AHA activity from Hibiscus flower extract. As a general precaution, many dermatologists recommend avoiding fragranced products during pregnancy, and some OB/GYNs advise caution with any AHA product. We strongly recommend consulting your healthcare provider or OB/GYN before incorporating this product into your routine while pregnant or breastfeeding.
No — the Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist is NOT considered fungal acne safe. The formula contains multiple ingredients that can feed Malassezia yeast and potentially trigger or worsen fungal acne (pityrosporum folliculitis): Sorbitan Oleate (a fatty acid ester), Citrullus Lanatus (Watermelon) Seed Oil, Cucurbita Pepo (Pumpkin) Seed Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Germ Oil, and Fructooligosaccharides. If you are managing fungal acne, we recommend avoiding this product and seeking alternatives formulated without fatty acid esters and plant oils, such as the COSRX HA Hydra Power Essence Mist.
Yes, with a few caveats. This mist is generally compatible with most active-focused routines. Used as a toner before actives, it preps and plumps skin for better absorption. Used between steps (the "mist sandwich" method), it can enhance serum penetration. One note: this mist contains a mild natural AHA from Hibiscus Flower extract. If you're already using a high-concentration AHA or BHA exfoliant (like a glycolic acid toner or a BHA serum), combining both in one routine increases total AHA load on the skin. For sensitive skin, consider using the mist separately from your dedicated exfoliant steps — for example, using your AHA at night and this mist in the morning. It pairs beautifully with vitamin C serums (the antioxidants complement each other) and can be used alongside retinol on non-exfoliant nights.
The mist was tested on all skin types and is officially recommended for Normal, Dry, Combination, and Oily skin by Glow Recipe and Sephora. In practice, combination and oily skin types tend to get the most balanced benefit — the ACV helps regulate oil while the HA and watermelon extract deliver targeted hydration. Dry skin users can hold the bottle closer for more concentrated moisture delivery. Sensitive skin users should patch test first due to fragrance content. The only skin concern for which it's not recommended is fungal acne (Malassezia-related breakouts), due to the oils and Sorbitan Oleate present in the formula.
You'll notice an immediate effect from the very first use — the ultra-fine mist delivers instant hydration, a visible dewy glow, and skin feels refreshed within seconds. For makeup enhancement, the effect is also immediate. For more meaningful changes in skin texture (smoother surface from Hibiscus AHAs) and improved overall radiance, most users notice visible improvements within 2–3 weeks of consistent daily use. The deep hydration benefits from Hyaluronic Acid + Polyglutamic Acid compound over time, with more visibly plump, line-softened skin typically observed after 4–8 weeks of regular multi-daily application.
The Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist is one of the most versatile products in its category, and it can be used at multiple points in your routine: (1) As a toner, apply it directly after cleansing on damp skin before any serums or moisturizers. (2) As a "mist sandwich" — spritz between every skincare step to help each layer absorb better and lock in cumulative hydration. (3) As a makeup prep — mist onto cleansed skin before foundation for a dewy, glowy base that helps makeup adhere and last. (4) As a makeup setting spray — mist over finished makeup to fuse it to skin and add a luminous glow. (5) As a midday refresh — keep it on your desk or in your bag and spritz over bare skin or makeup throughout the day. Always shake the bottle before each use.
The Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist has an overall comedogenic rating of approximately 1/5 — very low. While it contains several plant-derived oils (watermelon seed oil, rice germ oil, pumpkin seed oil, sunflower seed oil), these appear in a highly diluted mist format where concentrations are extremely low. The individual comedogenic ratings of the key oils are: Watermelon Seed Oil (0–1), Sunflower Seed Oil (0–2), Rice Germ Oil (1), Pumpkin Seed Oil (2). In practice, the vast majority of users — including those with acne-prone skin — do not report pore-clogging from this product. It is not recommended for fungal acne specifically, but for standard comedonal or hormonal acne, it poses minimal risk.
The Period After Opening (PAO) for the Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist is 12 months. Look for the open-jar symbol with "12M" on the packaging. The 75ml bottle, when used 2–3 times daily as a skincare mist, typically lasts approximately 1–2 months depending on frequency of use (2 spritzes per use). When used as an occasional makeup-setting or midday refresh mist only, it may last 3–4 months. Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to help preserve the active botanicals and extend shelf life.
Verdict: The Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist earns its cult-favorite status with a genuinely innovative bi-phase formula that delivers real, multi-layered benefits well beyond typical face mists. The combination of 84% watermelon antioxidants, hibiscus AHAs, sodium hyaluronate, polyglutamic acid, centella asiatica, and soothing botanicals places it among the most ingredient-dense mists at this price point. Its versatility — working as a toner, serum enhancer, makeup prep, setting mist, and midday refresh all in one — makes it exceptional value for skincare lovers who want a single product that does it all. The only meaningful drawbacks are its unsuitability for fungal acne and fragrance-sensitive users, and the somewhat fast depletion rate of the 75ml bottle with heavy daily use. For everyone else — especially those chasing a glassy, dewy complexion — this mist is a worthy hero product and a genuine upgrade from basic hydrating sprays.

Quick Product Notes
Ever used a product that promised a certain effect but provided no results? It might not have contained any notable ingredients that could have been responsible for that promised effect. It doesn't matter what the marketing or packaging «promises» it can do, if it doesn't contain anything that can help - then the likelihood of it helping is low.
We help you identify key notable ingredients that have been shown to help with effects such as acne-fighting, brightening, UV-protection, wound healing & anti-aging to help you achieve your skincare goals smarter. Please note that different notable ingredients have varying levels of research behind them, some are extremely well proven yet some have mixed research in their efficacy.
Just because a product doesn't contain any notable ingredients doesn't mean it's bad. Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.
EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
