90% Watermelon Extract Base

Replaces plain water as the formula's base, delivering antioxidant-rich lycopene, vitamins A and C, and amino acids directly to the skin for deep, lasting hydration.

Hyaluronic Acid Hydration

Sodium hyaluronate holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water, plumping skin at the surface and helping maintain moisture levels throughout the day.

Multi-Botanical Soothing Blend

Licorice root, peony extract, Baical skullcap, beta-glucan, and cabbage leaf extract work together to calm redness, even tone, and strengthen the skin barrier.

Radiance-Boosting Antioxidants

Blueberry, strawberry, and pear fruit extracts, alongside jasmine flower wax, protect against free radicals and environmental stressors to maintain a luminous complexion.

Oil-Free & Non-Comedogenic

No plant oils, no mineral oil, no pore-clogging silicones. The olive-derived emollient system provides a smooth skin feel without contributing to breakouts.

Refillable Sustainable Packaging

The current version comes with a refillable bottle, reducing plastic waste. Compatible with Pact Collective recycling bins for responsible beauty disposal.

02

Safety & compatibility

SAFE
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Safe

Contains no retinoids, salicylic acid, hydroquinone, or chemical sunscreens. Fragrance is naturally derived and present at under 0.5% of the formula. Generally considered safe — consult your OB/GYN if concerned.

Fungal Acne (Malassezia) — Caution

The current reformulated version contains Ethyl Olivate and Cetearyl Olivate, which are esters that can feed Malassezia. Not recommended for those with active fungal acne. Seek an FA-safe alternative if needed.

Non-Comedogenic · Rating 1/5

Fully oil-free formula with no known pore-clogging oils. The olive-derived Cetearyl Olivate rates approximately 1–2 on the comedogenic scale. Tested and confirmed non-comedogenic by the brand.

Sensitive Skin Friendly

Free from harsh alcohols, parabens, silicones, sulfates (SLS/SLES), phthalates, mineral oil, coal tar, and hydroquinone. Fragrance is minimal (<0.5%) and naturally derived, making it suitable for most sensitive skin types.

Compatible with Retinol & Vitamin C

This moisturizer layers well over vitamin C serums and retinol treatments. No conflicting actives in the formula. Apply after actives as a sealing, soothing final step.

Gluten & Soy Note

Contains Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein and Hydrolyzed Soy Protein. These are highly processed derivatives and typically safe for topical use even for those with intolerances, but those with severe sensitivities should patch test first.

Ingredient breakdown

INGREDIENTS

Citrullus Lanatus (Watermelon) Fruit Extract ~90% of baseHero Ingredient

Watermelon fruit extract replaces standard water as the first ingredient, making it the foundation of the entire formula. Rich in lycopene (a potent red-pigment antioxidant), vitamins A and C, amino acids (arginine, glutathione), and natural sugars that act as humectants.

  • Antioxidant: Lycopene neutralises free radicals and provides measurable UV-induced DNA protection in vitro studies.
  • Anti-inflammatory: Watermelon amino acids reduce redness and calm irritated skin barrier.
  • Hydration: Natural sugars and amino acids function as water-binding humectants deep within the epidermis.
Brand-commissioned studies showed a 25% increase in skin protection vs. placebo when using a watermelon extract formula under UV exposure.

Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid) Active ConcentrationProven

The salt form of hyaluronic acid, with a smaller molecular weight that allows deeper skin penetration compared to standard HA. Functions as a powerful humectant, drawing moisture from the environment into the skin to deliver plumping hydration.

  • Moisture binding: Holds up to 1,000× its own weight in water, immediately plumping fine lines and dehydration creases.
  • Barrier support: Replenishes the skin's natural HA stores, which deplete with age and UV exposure.
  • Non-irritating: One of the most universally tolerated hydrating actives; suitable for all skin types and concerns.

Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract ActiveProven

Licorice root is a clinically backed brightening and soothing botanical. Its key component, glabridin, inhibits tyrosinase — the enzyme responsible for melanin overproduction — helping fade hyperpigmentation and dark spots over time.

  • Brightening: Glabridin blocks UVB-induced pigmentation in multiple peer-reviewed studies.
  • Anti-inflammatory: Dipotassium glycyrrhizate reduces redness, swelling, and irritation.
  • Antioxidant: Neutralises reactive oxygen species that accelerate skin ageing.

Beta-Glucan ActiveProven

A polysaccharide derived from oats, yeast, or mushrooms that reinforces the skin's immune response and acts as a superior long-lasting humectant. It has been shown to outperform hyaluronic acid in sustained moisture retention over 24 hours.

  • Wound healing: Accelerates skin repair and reduces sensitivity by activating Langerhans cells.
  • Anti-ageing: Studies demonstrate visible reduction in fine line depth with consistent use.
  • Soothing: Mimics the skin's own natural moisturising factors for calming reactive skin.
Beta-Glucan is considered a "hidden gem" hydrator — often outperforms hyaluronic acid in long-term moisture studies and provides additional barrier-repair benefits.

Paeonia Suffruticosa (Peony) Root Extract ActivePromising

Peony root extract contains paeoniflorin and gallic acid, bioactive compounds with powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Used in traditional Korean and Chinese skincare for centuries to brighten and soothe complexion.

  • Brightening: Paeoniflorin inhibits melanogenesis and helps reduce the appearance of uneven skin tone.
  • Anti-inflammatory: Gallic acid suppresses pro-inflammatory cytokines in irritated skin.

Multi-Fruit Antioxidant Blend BlendPromising

The formula includes a curated mix of blueberry, strawberry, pear, rose water, and melon seed extracts — each contributing unique antioxidant, brightening, and soothing phytochemicals to protect against daily environmental stressors.

  • Blueberry: One of the richest plant sources of anthocyanins; neutralises free radicals responsible for premature ageing.
  • Strawberry (Fragaria Ananassa): Contains ellagic acid, which protects against UVB-induced damage and brightens skin.
  • Rosa Damascena Flower Water: Delivers antimicrobial, calming, and mild astringent properties with a pleasant natural fragrance note.
Rosa Damascena Flower Water contains trace fragrance compounds that may irritate extremely reactive or sensitised skin. Patch test recommended for rosacea-prone individuals.

How to use

HOW TO USE
1

Cleanse & Tone

Start with a clean, dry face. Apply your toner or essence of choice and let it absorb fully before continuing your routine.

2

Dispense One Pump

Press the pump once to dispense a pea-sized amount onto your fingertips. One pump is typically sufficient for the full face — avoid over-applying as the gel formula spreads efficiently.

3

Pat & Press Into Skin

Using light patting motions (not rubbing), press the moisturizer into the skin starting from the center of your face and working outward. This technique enhances absorption and preserves the bouncy gel texture.

4

Allow to Absorb Fully

Wait 20–30 seconds for the water gel to be fully absorbed before applying SPF in the morning. At night, this is your final step for oily/combination skin — no occlusive needed.

5

Use Morning & Night

Pink Juice is gentle enough for twice-daily use. In the morning, follow with your broad-spectrum SPF 30+. At night, it can also be used as a hydrating serum layered beneath a heavier cream if your skin is very dry.

06

Who is it for?

WHO

Perfect for you if:

  • You have oily, combination, or acne-prone skin
  • Your skin feels tight or dehydrated but hates heavy creams
  • You want a moisturizer that doubles as makeup prep
  • You're building a minimalist K-beauty-inspired routine
  • You love a dewy, glass-skin finish without greasiness
  • You live in a warm or humid climate
  • You're pregnant and avoiding retinoids/actives (patch test fragrance)

Consider alternatives if:

  • You have very dry or mature skin needing rich, occlusive hydration
  • You're sensitive to any fragrance, however minimal
  • You have active fungal acne (Malassezia folliculitis)
  • You prefer a completely fragrance-free formula
  • You have celiac disease or severe gluten/soy contact sensitivity
  • Your skin needs lipid-heavy barrier repair (eczema flares)

Skin type compatibility

SKIN TYPES
Oily Skin
Excellent

This is Pink Juice's sweet spot. The oil-free water-gel formula absorbs in seconds, delivers deep hydration, and leaves zero greasiness or shine — even in hot weather.

Combination Skin
Excellent

Balances beautifully across the T-zone and cheeks without overloading oily areas or neglecting drier patches. A consistently top-rated choice for combination complexions.

Normal Skin
Excellent

Works perfectly as an everyday lightweight moisturizer for normal skin year-round, especially in spring and summer. Can be layered under SPF without pilling.

Dry Skin
Moderate

May not provide enough moisture as a standalone moisturizer for very dry skin. Best used as a hydrating serum beneath a richer cream, or doubled up with a squalane or ceramide-based occlusive at night.

Sensitive Skin
Good

The botanical soothing complex (licorice, beta-glucan, peony) is excellent for calming reactive skin. The minimal fragrance (<0.5%) suits most sensitive types, but those with extreme fragrance sensitivity should patch test.

Acne-Prone Skin
Excellent

Oil-free, non-comedogenic, and anti-inflammatory. The licorice and skullcap extracts help calm breakout-associated redness while hyaluronic acid ensures the skin stays balanced and hydrated — preventing the dehydration that can trigger excess oil production.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ

Yes, the Watermelon Pink Juice Moisturizer is generally considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It contains no retinoids, salicylic acid, hydroquinone, chemical sunscreens, or other commonly restricted pregnancy actives. The fragrance is naturally derived and present at less than 0.5% of the formula. As always, consult your OB/GYN or midwife before adding any new skincare product during pregnancy, especially if you have highly reactive or sensitised skin.

No — the current reformulated version of Pink Juice Moisturizer is NOT considered fungal acne safe. The INCI list includes Ethyl Olivate, Cetearyl Olivate, and Sorbitan Olivate, all of which are esters that can feed Malassezia yeast and potentially trigger or worsen fungal acne (pityrosporum folliculitis). If you suffer from fungal acne, we recommend considering the COSRX Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion or a verified FA-safe gel moisturizer. Always cross-check ingredients on a reliable FA-safe checker tool before use.

Yes, Pink Juice Moisturizer is fully compatible with retinol, vitamin C serums, and AHA/BHA exfoliants. It contains no conflicting actives and its soothing botanical complex (licorice root, beta-glucan, peony) can actually help calm the skin after potentially sensitizing actives like retinol or strong acids. Apply your actives first, allow them to absorb, then seal everything in with Pink Juice. For retinol nights, the lightweight formula provides just enough moisture without creating a barrier that reduces retinol penetration.

Pink Juice excels for oily, combination, and acne-prone skin types, where it functions as a complete standalone moisturizer. Normal skin types love it year-round, especially in warmer months. Sensitive skin types generally do well with it due to the calming botanical blend, though those with extreme fragrance sensitivity should patch test first. Dry and very dehydrated skin types may find it insufficient as a standalone — it works best for them layered under a richer cream or used as a hydrating serum step.

Hydration effects are immediate — your skin will feel plumped and refreshed after the very first application. Texture improvements (smoothness, reduced midday oiliness) typically become noticeable within 1–2 weeks of consistent twice-daily use. Visible brightening, redness reduction, and more even tone from the licorice root and botanical complex generally require 4–8 weeks of continued use. Optimal results for hyperpigmentation and radiance improvement are seen after 2–3 months of daily application.

Pink Juice goes after your treatment serums and before SPF in the morning. The full routine order is: Cleanser → Toner/Essence → Serum/Actives → Pink Juice Moisturizer → SPF (morning only). At night, it's the final step for oily and combination skin. For dry skin, use it as a hydrating serum step (after toner) and layer a richer cream on top. It can also be applied to the neck and décolleté.

No — Glow Recipe Pink Juice Moisturizer is certified non-comedogenic by the brand and has a comedogenic rating of approximately 1/5 based on its ingredient profile. It is completely oil-free, contains no mineral oil, and uses low-comedogenic olive-derived emollients. It is one of the most popular moisturizers specifically recommended for acne-prone and pore-congested skin types. Thousands of acne-prone users report no breakouts or pore congestion with regular use.

The Period After Opening (PAO) for Glow Recipe Pink Juice Moisturizer is 12 months. This is indicated by the open-jar symbol on the packaging. With once-daily use, a 60ml bottle typically lasts approximately 2–3 months for most users. With twice-daily use (AM and PM), expect it to last 6–8 weeks. The airless pump packaging helps extend shelf life by preventing air and bacteria from entering the formula — a key advantage over open-jar moisturizers.

— Skincarisma verdict
4.5 / 5 ★★★★★

Verdict: The Glow Recipe Watermelon Pink Juice Oil-Free Moisturizer is one of the most well-executed lightweight gel moisturizers on the market for oily, combination, and acne-prone skin. Its 90% watermelon base delivers antioxidant-rich hydration that goes far beyond what basic water-based moisturizers offer, and the addition of hyaluronic acid, beta-glucan, licorice root, and a multi-fruit botanical complex makes it genuinely effective for both immediate hydration and long-term radiance. The instant-absorption formula, non-comedogenic certification, and dewy glass-skin finish make it a near-perfect daily moisturizer for those who hate the feeling of anything heavy on their skin. Two caveats worth noting: it is not fungal-acne safe due to olive esters in the current formula, and dry skin types will need to layer it with a richer moisturizer. For everyone else — this is a well-deserved cult classic.

Ever used a product that promised a certain effect but provided no results? It might not have contained any notable ingredients that could have been responsible for that promised effect. It doesn't matter what the marketing or packaging «promises» it can do, if it doesn't contain anything that can help - then the likelihood of it helping is low.

lightbulb What is the Ingredient Safety Breakdown?

Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.

muscle Pro Tip Alert!

EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
