Quick answers

About this list

What makes treatments fungal-acne safe?

Fungal acne (Malassezia folliculitis) is driven by a yeast that feeds on fatty acids and the oils, butters, esters, polysorbates and lecithin made of them. A product is on this list only when none of its ingredients is one of those triggers — the same screen as our fungal acne checker, applied to the full ingredient list rather than the label claim. Ferments, fatty alcohols (cetyl, cetearyl) and squalene, which the checker marks “possible”, do not exclude a product.

Will a fungal-acne safe treatment treat fungal acne?

No. A fungal-acne safe product only avoids feeding the yeast. Fungal acne itself is treated with antifungals such as ketoconazole or clotrimazole, usually on a doctor's or pharmacist's advice; these treatments are what to use alongside without making it worse.

What makes treatments non-comedogenic?

None of the ingredients has a published comedogenic rating of 3 or higher on the 0–5 scale — the same rule our pore-clogging checker uses, so any product here passes it when you paste its ingredient list.

Does non-comedogenic mean it will not break me out?

Not for certain. Comedogenic ratings come from old rabbit-ear and patch tests at high concentrations, so they are a rough guide, not a guarantee. If a product still breaks you out, the cause can be the overall formula, how often you use it, or something other than clogged pores.
