Safety & compatibility
SAFEContains ~12% AHAs (glycolic + lactic acids) and 2% salicylic acid (BHA). Skinfix advises that some doctors recommend limiting AHAs and BHAs during pregnancy. Not tested on pregnant or breastfeeding individuals — always check with your OB or midwife first before use.
The formula contains no fatty acids, esters, oils, or polysorbates that feed Malassezia. The salicylic acid and niacinamide combo actively help address fungal acne breakouts. Sephora officially lists this product as safe for fungal acne.
No pore-clogging oils or butters in the formula. Salicylic acid and glycolic acid actively help clear out congestion. Safe for acne-prone skin types. Officially formulated to be non-comedogenic.
Alcohol-free and fragrance-free which reduces irritation risk. However, ~12% total acid concentration may be intense for very reactive skin. Start 1-2x per week and rinse off after use if needed to reduce intensity.
Avoid layering this product with retinol or retinoids on the same evening. Alternate nights between exfoliating acids and retinoids to prevent over-exfoliation and skin barrier damage.
Do not combine with L-Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C in the same routine. Use Vitamin C in the morning and these pads at night, or alternate evenings. Vitamin E (Tocopherol) in this formula is a gentle antioxidant that does not conflict.
Follow with a hyaluronic acid serum or moisturizer after use. Since AHAs increase transepidermal water loss, sealing with a humectant and occlusive moisturizer is especially important.
AHAs and BHAs increase photosensitivity. Always follow morning application (if any) with SPF 30 or higher. Skinfix strongly recommends daily sunscreen use while using this product regularly.
Ingredient breakdown
INGREDIENTSLactic Acid 5%Proven
An alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from fermented milk that exfoliates the surface layer of skin by dissolving the bonds between dead skin cells. At 5%, it gently resurfaces, improves texture, and provides mild hydrating benefits — making it one of the gentler AHAs suitable for slightly sensitive skin types.
- Mechanism: Loosens corneocytes (dead cells) at the skin's surface, accelerating cell turnover
- Benefit: Smooths rough texture, reduces mild discoloration, supports healthy microbiome
- Evidence: Peer-reviewed studies confirm efficacy in reducing fine lines at concentrations ≥5%
- Unique: Larger molecule than glycolic acid → less penetrating, generally less irritating
Glycolic Acid 4.9%Proven
The gold-standard AHA with the smallest molecular size, allowing the deepest penetration of any AHA. At 4.9%, it illuminates skin by accelerating cell turnover, reduces hyperpigmentation, visibly smooths surface texture, and over time stimulates collagen production for anti-aging benefits.
- Mechanism: Cleaves peptide bonds in the stratum corneum, accelerating desquamation
- Benefit: Brightening, anti-aging, dark spot reduction, improved skin tone evenness
- Evidence: Widely studied; shown effective for photodamage, acne scars, and textural improvement
- Note: Most potent AHA — responsible for the effective "peel-like" action of this formula
Salicylic Acid 2%Proven
The only FDA-approved OTC BHA (beta-hydroxy acid) and a cornerstone of acne treatment. Being oil-soluble, it penetrates deep into pores to dissolve sebum plugs, blackheads, and congestion that AHAs cannot reach. At the maximum OTC concentration of 2%, it is a clinically effective acne and pore treatment.
- Mechanism: Oil-soluble keratolytic that penetrates the lipid environment inside pores
- Benefit: Unclogs pores, prevents and treats acne, anti-inflammatory, addresses fungal acne
- Evidence: FDA-approved acne treatment; shown to reduce comedones, inflammatory papules
- Bonus: Anti-inflammatory properties reduce post-exfoliation redness
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) 2%Proven
A multi-functional vitamin B3 derivative that works in multiple complementary ways alongside the exfoliating acids. At 2%, it is the clinically validated threshold for skin barrier support and tone evenness. Niacinamide helps offset the potential irritation from high-percentage AHAs by reinforcing the skin barrier post-exfoliation.
- Mechanism: Increases ceramide synthesis, reduces melanin transfer, regulates sebum
- Benefit: Minimizes pores, evens skin tone, strengthens barrier, anti-inflammatory, reduces excess oil
- Evidence: Well-studied at 2-5%; reduces hyperpigmentation comparably to hydroquinone in some studies
- Synergy: Pairs well with AHAs/BHA to soothe and fortify skin after exfoliation
Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water SupportingPromising
A distilled botanical extract from the witch hazel plant. Unlike witch hazel extracts with alcohol, the water/hydrosol form used here provides gentle astringent and anti-inflammatory benefits without the drying effects of alcohol. Helps tone pores and reduce redness post-exfoliation.
- Benefit: Mild astringent, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant properties
- Key distinction: Alcohol-free witch hazel water — does not dry or disrupt skin barrier
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder SupportingProven
Dehydrated and powdered form of pure aloe vera gel. Delivers the same soothing, healing, and hydrating actives as fresh aloe — including polysaccharides, vitamins, and enzymes — in a stable, concentrated form. Helps calm post-exfoliation irritation and provides lightweight hydration.
- Benefit: Soothing, anti-inflammatory, wound-healing, lightweight hydration
- Evidence: Proven effective at reducing post-procedure irritation and supporting skin repair
Chamomilla Recutita (Chamomile) Flower Extract SupportingProven
German chamomile extract rich in bisabolol and apigenin, powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds. Helps minimize redness, calm reactive skin, and provide antioxidant protection against free radical damage triggered by exfoliation.
- Key actives: Alpha-bisabolol, apigenin, chamazulene
- Benefit: Anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, redness-reducing, skin-calming
Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract SupportingPromising
Cucumber extract delivers high water content, vitamin C, caffeic acid, and folic acid to soothe, cool, and hydrate post-exfoliated skin. A gentle, refreshing botanical that contributes to skin comfort after acid application.
- Benefit: Soothing, cooling, antioxidant, mild brightening via caffeic acid
Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract SupportingPromising
Licorice root extract containing glabridin, a potent inhibitor of tyrosinase (the enzyme responsible for melanin production). Provides brightening and dark spot-reducing benefits that complement the exfoliating action of the AHAs. Also has notable anti-inflammatory properties.
- Key active: Glabridin — tyrosinase inhibitor and antioxidant
- Benefit: Lightens hyperpigmentation, soothes inflammation, antioxidant
Panax Quinquefolius (American Ginseng) Root Extract SupportingPromising
American ginseng root extract rich in ginsenosides — adaptogenic compounds with antioxidant, anti-aging, and energizing properties for the skin. Helps combat oxidative stress and supports the skin's natural renewal processes that are accelerated by exfoliation.
- Key actives: Ginsenosides, polysaccharides, flavonoids
- Benefit: Antioxidant, anti-aging, supports cell renewal, skin energizing
Papain & Bromelain (Enzymes) SupportingPromising
Papain (from papaya) and Bromelain (from pineapple) are proteolytic enzymes that provide a third layer of exfoliation by breaking down dead protein bonds on the skin surface. They work at a different mechanism than AHAs and BHAs, providing a comprehensive multi-mechanism resurfacing approach.
- Mechanism: Proteolytic — breaks down keratin proteins in dead skin cells
- Benefit: Enzymatic exfoliation, surface smoothing, brightening complement to chemical acids
- Note: Gentler than high-concentration AHAs; adds multi-level action

Where it fits in your routine
ROUTINEBest used in thePM routine on clean, dry skin. Do not apply other exfoliating acids or retinoids the same night. Always follow with a hydrating serum + moisturizer to lock in moisture after acid exfoliation.
How to use
HOW TO USECleanse & Dry Skin Thoroughly
Wash face or target body area with your regular cleanser. Pat completely dry. Applying to damp skin intensifies acid penetration and can increase irritation — always start on fully dry skin, especially when new to the product.
Sweep One Pad Over the Target Area
Using the textured side of one pad, gently sweep across clean skin in slow, circular motions. One pad covers the full face and neck; larger areas (back, arms, legs) may need 1–2 pads. Do not scrub aggressively.
Leave On (Leave-On Formula)
These are designed as leave-on exfoliating pads — do not rinse off. Allow the formula to absorb for 60 seconds. If you have very sensitive skin or are new to chemical exfoliants, you may rinse after a few minutes to reduce intensity as your skin acclimates.
Follow With Hydrating Moisturizer
Immediately follow with a hydrating serum (hyaluronic acid is ideal) and a nourishing moisturizer. This step is essential — AHAs and BHAs temporarily disrupt the skin barrier, so sealing with moisture is critical for comfort and results.
Build Frequency Gradually
Start with 1–3 times per week. As your skin builds tolerance over 2–4 weeks, you may gradually increase to nightly use if tolerated. Always listen to your skin — redness, peeling, or stinging beyond mild are signs to reduce frequency.
Apply SPF 30+ Every Morning
AHA/BHA use significantly increases UV sensitivity. Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher is mandatory while using this product — this protects the fresh, newly exfoliated skin from UV damage and prevents new hyperpigmentation.
Who is it for?
WHOPerfect for you if:
- You have rough, bumpy, or uneven skin texture on body or face
- You struggle with keratosis pilaris (KP) on arms or legs
- You want to fade dark spots, post-acne marks, or hyperpigmentation
- You have clogged pores, blackheads, or acne-prone skin
- You're looking for a multi-tasking exfoliant for face AND body
- You prefer clean beauty without fragrance, silicones, or parabens
- You want a fungal acne-safe exfoliating option
- You're dealing with ingrown hairs on body areas
Consider alternatives if:
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding (consult your doctor first)
- You have very sensitive, compromised, or eczema-prone skin
- You're a complete beginner to chemical exfoliants (start gentler)
- You already use high-strength retinoids or prescription acids
- You have active open wounds, sunburn, or broken skin barriers
- You prefer a rinse-off exfoliant rather than leave-on treatment
Skin type compatibility
SKIN TYPESIdeal match — salicylic acid targets excess sebum and clogged pores while niacinamide regulates oil production. Leaves skin mattified and clear without stripping.
Dual-action AHA+BHA formula directly targets all forms of acne — blackheads, whiteheads, papules. Non-comedogenic and fungal-acne safe. Niacinamide reduces post-acne marks.
Works across zones — BHA dives into oily T-zone pores while AHAs address dry patches and uneven texture. Niacinamide balances oil in the T-zone without over-drying cheeks.
Can work well with careful pacing — lactic acid has mild humectant properties, but a rich moisturizer immediately after is essential. Start 1-2x/week max and monitor for tightness.
Fragrance-free and alcohol-free formulation reduces irritation risk, but ~12% total acids may be too intense for reactive skin. Start once weekly; rinsing off after 1-2 minutes can reduce intensity for beginners.
Glycolic acid at clinical concentrations is one of the most evidence-backed anti-aging ingredients. Stimulates collagen, reduces fine lines, evens discoloration. Excellent for photoaged or sun-damaged skin.

Frequently asked questions
FAQThis product requires caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Skinfix confirms the product has not been tested on pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, and some healthcare providers recommend limiting the use of AHAs (glycolic acid, lactic acid) and BHAs (salicylic acid) during pregnancy — particularly at higher concentrations like the ~12% total acid level in this formula. While topical salicylic acid at cosmetic concentrations is generally considered lower risk than oral aspirin, safety guidelines vary. Always consult your OB, midwife, or dermatologist before using this product during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. A gentler alternative such as a low-concentration lactic acid serum may be more appropriate.
Yes — this product is fungal acne (Malassezia folliculitis) safe. The formula is free from fatty acids, triglycerides, esters, oils, and polysorbates that are known to feed Malassezia yeast. In fact, Sephora officially lists this product as beneficial for fungal acne, as the 2% salicylic acid and the overall exfoliating action actively help treat and prevent the congested follicles that fungal acne thrives in. It is one of the few clinical-strength exfoliating pads explicitly safe for those prone to Malassezia folliculitis.
Do not combine this product with retinol/retinoids or strong L-Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C on the same evening — the combination can cause over-exfoliation, irritation, and skin barrier damage. Instead, alternate use: use Resurface+ pads on some nights and your retinoid or Vitamin C on others. Similarly, do not layer additional AHA or BHA products (toners, serums, peels) on the same evening as this product — the formula already contains ~12% total acids, which is sufficient exfoliation for one session. Niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, peptides, and ceramides can all be layered safely after the pads have absorbed.
These pads are best suited for oily, acne-prone, combination, and normal skin types. They are also highly effective for mature or photo-damaged skin thanks to the clinical-strength glycolic acid. People with dry skin can use them but should be diligent about moisturizing immediately after use and limiting frequency to 1-2x per week. Very sensitive or reactive skin types should approach with caution — the ~12% total acid concentration may be intense if you're new to chemical exfoliation. The brand formulates for all skin types and tones, but recommends a patch test for those prone to hyperpigmentation or with reactive skin.
Most users notice smoother, more radiant skin after the very first use. For visible improvements in dark spots and hyperpigmentation, expect 3-4 weeks of consistent use. Significant texture improvement and pore refinement typically appears within 2-4 weeks. Keratosis pilaris on the body generally shows improvement within 2-6 weeks of regular use. Anti-aging results (reduced fine lines, improved firmness from collagen stimulation) from glycolic acid typically require 2-3 months of consistent use to become apparent. Results are cumulative — consistency is key.
These pads are used as a leave-on treatment after cleansing, in step 3 of your routine: Cleanse → Tone (optional) → Resurface+ Pads → Hydrating Serum → Moisturizer → SPF (AM only). Always apply to clean, completely dry skin. They work best in the evening routine — using at night means freshly exfoliated skin isn't immediately exposed to UV. If you use these in the morning, sunscreen SPF 30+ is absolutely mandatory. Do not apply other exfoliating products (AHAs, BHAs, physical exfoliants, or enzyme treatments) in the same routine session.
No — these pads have a comedogenic rating of 1/5 and are considered non-comedogenic. The formula contains no comedogenic oils, waxes, or butters. In fact, the opposite is true: the salicylic acid (BHA) and glycolic acid (AHA) actively work to dissolve the sebum plugs and dead skin buildup that cause clogged pores. Niacinamide further refines pore appearance over time. This product is safe and beneficial for acne-prone skin and is officially listed as suitable for those concerned about breakouts.
The Period After Opening (PAO) is 12 months. The jar features a special bore seal (a ridge under the lid) that helps maintain moisture and preserve the acid-soaked pads. Always ensure the lid is tightly sealed after each use to prevent the pads from drying out. At the recommended frequency of 3-7 uses per week, a jar of 60 pads will last approximately 2-4 months, well within the 12-month PAO. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Verdict: Skinfix Resurface+ AHA/BHA Niacinamide Exfoliating Pads deliver a rare combination of clinical-strength multi-acid exfoliation (~12% AHAs + 2% BHA) with the added intelligence of niacinamide to balance the skin barrier post-exfoliation. The triple-acid synergy — 4.9% glycolic, 5% lactic, and 2% salicylic — is genuinely effective for tackling texture, acne, dark spots, fine lines, and KP on both face and body in one convenient, pre-soaked pad. The completely fragrance-free, alcohol-free, and fungal-acne-safe formulation sets it apart from most competitors in this category. The biodegradable pad and clean brand ethos add sustainability credentials. The primary trade-off is price ($50 for 60 pads is a premium investment) and the intensity may not suit beginners or very sensitive skin without careful introduction. For those seeking a dermatologist-tested, comprehensive resurfacing treatment without compromising on clean beauty standards, these pads represent one of the most well-formulated options available.

Quick Product Notes
Ever used a product that promised a certain effect but provided no results? It might not have contained any notable ingredients that could have been responsible for that promised effect. It doesn't matter what the marketing or packaging «promises» it can do, if it doesn't contain anything that can help - then the likelihood of it helping is low.

Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.
EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
