Ingredient breakdown
INGREDIENTSAscorbyl Tetraisopalmitate (Vitamin C)Proven
A lipid-soluble, highly stable form of vitamin C that penetrates deeper into the skin than traditional L-ascorbic acid. Brightens the complexion, reduces pigmentation spots, and provides antioxidant protection against environmental damage and photoaging.
- Stability: Resistant to degradation from light and heat, unlike pure ascorbic acid.
- Penetration: Molecular dynamics studies confirm it penetrates biological membranes effectively due to its lipophilic nature.
- Anti-pigmentation: Research shows it suppresses melanocyte-keratinocyte interaction, reducing age spots and uneven tone.
Squalane ~3–4%Proven
An olive-derived emollient that mimics the skin's natural sebum. Provides deep, non-greasy moisturization, strengthens the hydrolipidic barrier, and delivers antioxidant protection. Excellent cosmetic elegance.
- Skin-identical: Structurally similar to squalene, a natural component of human sebum.
- Non-irritating: Research confirms squalane is non-irritating even at 100% concentration.
- Barrier repair: Helps restore the protective hydrolipidic film, reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL).
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Aloe Vera)Promising
Fresh aloe vera pulp rich in vitamins A, C, and E, minerals, amino acids, and polysaccharides. Known for its moisturizing, soothing, and anti-inflammatory properties. Helps bind moisture to skin and supports wound healing.
- Moisturizing: Polysaccharides in aloe help retain water and prevent dehydration.
- Anti-inflammatory: Contains salicylates, C-glucosyl chromone, and magnesium lactate that calm irritation.
- Antioxidant: Vitamins A, C, and E help combat free radical damage from UV and pollution.
Glycerin ~1–1.5%Proven
A powerful humectant naturally present in skin. Attracts and retains moisture in the upper skin layers. A 2016 study found glycerin to be more effective as a humectant than AHAs and hyaluronic acid.
- Humectant: Pulls moisture from the environment and deeper skin layers to hydrate the surface.
- Barrier support: Maintains skin lipids in a healthy liquid crystal state, protecting against irritation.
SilicaFunctional
A mineral oil-absorbing powder that provides a soft-focus, mattifying effect. Helps minimize shine throughout the day while maintaining a natural skin-like finish.
- Oil control: Excellent sebum-absorbing properties for a balanced, non-greasy finish.
- Texture enhancer: Creates a smooth, velvety feel upon application.

Where it fits in your routine
ROUTINEApply as the last step in your skincare routine, after sunscreen. This is a makeup-skincare hybrid — it replaces your foundation, not your serum or moisturizer. Use AM only.
How to use
HOW TO USEPrepare the Dropper
Unscrew the pipette and pull it upward so it is no longer submerged in the serum. Squeeze the bulb to expel air, then re-insert the dropper into the serum and slowly release to draw product in.
Dispense 3–4 Drops
Apply 3 to 4 drops onto clean, moisturized, and sunscreen-protected skin. Start from the center of your face. You can add more drops for buildable coverage.
Blend Outward
Using fingers, a brush, or a damp beauty sponge, blend the serum outward from the center of your face toward the hairline, jawline, and neck. Work quickly for an even finish.
Set (Optional)
For oily skin or longer wear, lightly set with a translucent powder. Allow 60 seconds for the serum to fully absorb before setting. Remove in the evening with makeup remover oil or micellar water.

Skin type compatibility
SKIN TYPESSqualane and aloe vera deliver deep hydration. The satin-dewy finish adds a healthy glow to parched skin. A standout choice for dry skin types.
Ideal match. The balanced formula hydrates without feeling heavy and gives a natural, skin-like finish throughout the day.
Works well overall but may get dewy on the T-zone by midday. Setting with a light powder in oily areas helps extend wear.
The dewy finish can amplify shine on very oily skin. Setting with powder is essential. Silica helps absorb some oil, but may not be enough for very oily types.
Fragrance-free, silicone-free, minimal formula with low irritation potential. Patch test recommended for very reactive skin. Well-tolerated by most sensitive types.
Low comedogenic rating (1/5) and silicone-free formula. However, NOT fungal acne safe. Some users report breakouts — patch test first if acne-prone.

DUPESContains 1% hyaluronic acid and mineral pigments for a similar skin-like finish. More shades (9) but slightly less hydrating. Does contain alcohol which may irritate sensitive skin. Drugstore accessible.
Similar watery texture and sheer, natural finish. Even lighter coverage than Typology — more like a filter than a tint. Wider shade range. Lacks vitamin C and squalane skincare benefits.
More coverage and better longevity at a fraction of the price. Soft-matte finish suits oily skin better. 25 shades available. Contains dimethicone (silicone) and is not as clean or minimalist as Typology.

Frequently asked questions
FAQYes. The Typology Tinted Serum does not contain retinoids, salicylic acid, hydroquinone, chemical sunscreens, or any other ingredients typically flagged as unsafe during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The mineral pigments (iron oxides, titanium dioxide) are also considered safe. As always, consult your healthcare provider before introducing new products during pregnancy.
No. This product contains several ingredients flagged as potential fungal acne triggers: Isoamyl Laurate (an ester), Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Polyglyceryl-6 Polyricinoleate, Polyglyceryl-2 Isostearate, and Coco-Caprylate/Caprate. If you are prone to malassezia folliculitis, this product is not recommended. Consider fungal acne-safe alternatives instead.
Yes. The vitamin C in this formula (Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate) is a gentle, stable derivative that plays well with most actives. You can use retinol, other vitamin C products, or AHA/BHA in your PM routine without issue. Apply active serums at night and use the tinted serum during the day. The formula does not contain any exfoliating acids itself.
This tinted serum is best suited for dry, normal, and combination skin types. The squalane and aloe vera provide excellent hydration, and the satin-dewy finish gives a healthy glow. Oily skin types may find it too dewy without setting powder. It is also well-tolerated by most sensitive skin types due to its fragrance-free, minimal formula.
You will see instant coverage and radiance from the very first application. Hydration improvements typically become noticeable within 1–2 weeks of daily use. The vitamin C brightening and pigmentation-fading benefits are more gradual, with most users noticing a more even, luminous complexion after 4–6 weeks of consistent use.
Apply the Tinted Serum as the very last step in your morning routine, after sunscreen. The recommended order is: Cleanser → Toner → Serum → Moisturizer → Sunscreen → Tinted Serum. This product is a makeup-skincare hybrid and replaces your foundation — it does not replace your treatment serums or moisturizer.
The overall comedogenic rating is low (1/5). The brand markets it as a "non-clogging" formula. However, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate (present at ~2–3%) has a higher individual comedogenic rating. Most users do not experience clogged pores, but some acne-prone individuals have reported breakouts. Patch testing is recommended if you are very pore-sensitive.
The Period After Opening (PAO) is 6 months. Typology recommends not using the product beyond this period to ensure efficacy and safety. Some users have reported a sour scent developing after 30–60 days of opening — store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat to maximize freshness. The vitamin C derivative is stable but the overall formula has a shorter shelf life than many competitors.
Verdict: The Typology Tinted Serum delivers on its promise of a natural, skin-like finish with genuine skincare benefits. The minimal, clean formula with stable vitamin C, squalane, and aloe vera makes it a standout for those who want their makeup to nourish their skin. It excels for dry to normal skin types seeking a lightweight, everyday base with a dewy glow. However, the limited 6-shade range, rising price ($47.90 for 30ml), short 6-month shelf life, lack of SPF, and potential scent issues hold it back from being a universal recommendation. It is pregnancy-safe but not fungal acne safe. If you value clean ingredients and a French-girl effortless look, this is an excellent choice — but compare with ILIA (for SPF) or L'Oréal True Match Serum (for budget) depending on your priorities.

Quick Product Notes
Ever used a product that promised a certain effect but provided no results? It might not have contained any notable ingredients that could have been responsible for that promised effect. It doesn't matter what the marketing or packaging «promises» it can do, if it doesn't contain anything that can help - then the likelihood of it helping is low.
We help you identify key notable ingredients that have been shown to help with effects such as acne-fighting, brightening, UV-protection, wound healing & anti-aging to help you achieve your skincare goals smarter. Please note that different notable ingredients have varying levels of research behind them, some are extremely well proven yet some have mixed research in their efficacy.
Just because a product doesn't contain any notable ingredients doesn't mean it's bad. And a product with notable ingredients (or even many) doesn't necessarily guarantee the efficacy of the product performing these effects either. There are other factors such as ingredient quality, concentration and formulation that will ultimately determine this.
Be smart and use this as just a starting point for you to make more informed and smarter choices and compare it with reviews to see if the product is right for you

Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.
EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
