Dual Vitamin C Complex

Combines Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP) and 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid for stable, effective brightening from two complementary pathways — one water-soluble, one oil-soluble.

Hyaluronic Acid Hydration

Sodium Hyaluronate draws moisture into the upper skin layers, plumping and smoothing the complexion while the Vitamin C actives get to work.

Soothing Botanical Blend

Bisabolol and Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract calm irritation and reduce redness, making this serum gentle enough for reactive and sensitive skin types.

Antioxidant Bioflavonoids & Broccoli Extract

Brassica Oleracea Italica Extract and Bioflavonoids deliver powerful antioxidant protection, neutralising free radicals that accelerate skin ageing and dullness.

Dermatest "Very Good" Certified

Independently tested and awarded the top rating by Dermatest for skin compatibility, confirming suitability even for sensitive skin types.

Clean Beauty Formula

Free from silicones, artificial colours, microplastics, parabens, and controversial ingredients. 100% vegan and produced to German pharmaceutical-grade standards.

02

Safety & compatibility

SAFE
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Safe

Contains no retinoids, salicylic acid, hydroquinone, or chemical sunscreen filters. The Vitamin C derivatives (SAP and 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid) are considered safe during pregnancy. Always consult your healthcare provider.

Fungal Acne (Malassezia) Safe

The entire 11-ingredient formula contains no fermented ingredients, fatty acid esters, polysorbates, or oils that feed Malassezia yeast. Confirmed safe for fungal acne-prone skin.

Non-Comedogenic (Rating: 1/5)

No pore-clogging oils or waxes. Propanediol and Pentylene Glycol are lightweight, non-comedogenic humectants. Suitable for acne-prone skin.

Fragrance-Free & Dye-Free

Contains no synthetic fragrances, essential oils, or artificial colourants. The Citrus Grandis Fruit Water contributes a very mild natural citrus note, not a perfuming agent.

Use SPF in the Morning

Vitamin C increases photosensitivity slightly. Always follow with a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ when using this serum in your morning routine to protect your skin and preserve results.

Sensitive Skin Compatible

Bisabolol and Aloe extract actively soothe inflammation. Dermatest awarded the formula its highest "Very Good" rating for tolerability across all skin types including sensitive.

Vegan & Cruelty-Free

100% plant-based ingredients with no animal-derived components. Daytox does not conduct animal testing at any stage of production.

Compatible with Niacinamide

SAP and 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid are stable derivatives that do not react adversely with niacinamide — unlike pure L-Ascorbic Acid — making layering straightforward.

Ingredient breakdown

INGREDIENTS

Water (Aqua) ~50%+Base

The universal solvent and primary carrier for this formula, dissolving and delivering all active ingredients into the skin. High-purity pharmaceutical-grade water ensures formulation stability.

  • Function: Solvent, formulation base, skin hydration support
  • EWG Score: 1 (Lowest Risk)

Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Fruit Water ~5–15%Proven

A botanical hydrosol distilled from grapefruit, delivering a light antioxidant boost and a subtly refreshing sensation. Rich in natural flavonoids that complement the primary Vitamin C actives. Also serves as a gentle secondary humectant and skin-conditioning agent.

  • Antioxidants: Contains naturally occurring Vitamin C precursors and flavonoids
  • Function: Skin conditioning, mild antioxidant, fragrance contribution (natural)
  • EWG Score: 1
Listed as "Perfuming" on some databases — in this formula it is used primarily as an active hydrosol ingredient, not a synthetic fragrance.

Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP) ~10%Proven

The star active: a highly stable, water-soluble Vitamin C derivative that converts to L-Ascorbic Acid in the skin. SAP is renowned for being acne-fighting, brightening, and antioxidant-rich while remaining gentle and pH-stable up to pH 7 — unlike pure Vitamin C which degrades quickly.

  • Stability: Stable at neutral pH, far less prone to oxidation vs. L-Ascorbic Acid
  • Acne benefit: Studies show 5% SAP effectively reduces acne lesions (Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology)
  • Brightening: Inhibits tyrosinase, reducing melanin production and dark spots
  • Collagen: Supports collagen synthesis as a Vitamin C pro-drug
Ideal for acne-prone skin — SAP has been specifically studied and proven effective for blemish reduction alongside its brightening role.

Pentylene Glycol ~3–5%Proven

A multifunctional, plant-derived humectant that hydrates skin, enhances ingredient penetration, and acts as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial preservative — reducing the need for traditional preservatives. Contributes to the serum's silky, lightweight texture.

  • Function: Humectant, emollient, preservative booster, solvent
  • Comedogenic Rating: 0 — does not clog pores
  • EWG Score: 1

3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid ~1–3%Promising

An oil-soluble, highly stable ether derivative of Vitamin C. Because it is lipophilic, it can penetrate the lipid-rich skin barrier more readily than water-soluble SAP, offering a complementary skin penetration pathway. Works synergistically with SAP for enhanced brightening efficacy.

  • Stability: Extremely stable vs. pure L-Ascorbic Acid; resists oxidation
  • Penetration: Oil-soluble — better barrier penetration than water-soluble forms
  • Brightening: Demonstrated hyperpigmentation reduction in clinical studies
  • Collagen: Converts to Ascorbic Acid intracellularly, stimulating collagen
Considered "promising" rather than "proven" at the concentrations used in cosmetics — research is still emerging vs. the well-established data for L-Ascorbic Acid.

Sodium Hyaluronate ~1–2%Proven

The sodium salt form of Hyaluronic Acid, capable of holding up to 1,000× its weight in water. Draws moisture from the environment into the upper layers of the skin, providing immediate plumping and hydration that visibly smooths fine lines and improves skin texture.

  • Molecular weight: Smaller than HA — deeper skin layer penetration
  • Hydration capacity: Holds up to 1,000x its weight in water
  • EWG Score: 1

Bisabolol ~0.5–1%Proven

A naturally derived active from German chamomile (also synthetically produced to protect wild chamomile). A powerful skin-calming agent that reduces redness, soothes inflammation, and has been shown to accelerate skin healing. Also enhances absorption of other actives into the skin.

  • Anti-inflammatory: Clinically demonstrated reduction in skin irritation markers
  • Penetration enhancer: Helps actives like Vitamin C absorb more efficiently
  • Wound healing: Supports skin repair and regeneration processes
One of the most well-researched soothing ingredients in cosmetics — ideal for pairing with brightening actives that can sensitise skin.

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract ~1–3%Proven

Derived from the Aloe Vera plant, this extract is a classic skin-soothing, hydrating, and anti-inflammatory ingredient. Contains polysaccharides that form a protective film on the skin surface, locking in moisture and calming sensitised or post-sun skin.

  • Soothing: Reduces UV-induced inflammation and redness
  • Humectant: Contains natural polysaccharides that retain skin moisture
  • Traditional use: Centuries of documented use for wound healing and skin care

Bioflavonoids ~0.5–1%Promising

A class of plant-derived polyphenol antioxidants (often citrus-derived) that synergise with Vitamin C, extending its antioxidant activity and protecting it from oxidation. Help neutralise free radicals, reduce UV damage, and strengthen capillary walls for improved skin evenness.

  • Antioxidant synergy: Regenerate and stabilise Vitamin C in formulations
  • Anti-inflammatory: Inhibit pro-inflammatory cytokines
  • Capillary support: May reduce redness and uneven tone caused by visible capillaries

Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Extract ~0.5–1%Promising

Broccoli extract is a potent source of glucosinolates, sulforaphane, and antioxidants including Vitamins C, E, and K. Known for its ability to protect skin from environmental stressors, support detoxification pathways in skin cells, and provide broad-spectrum antioxidant coverage.

  • Sulforaphane: Activates Nrf2 pathway — a key antioxidant defence system in skin
  • Vitamins: Natural source of fat-soluble skin vitamins E and K
  • Anti-pollution: Helps neutralise particulate matter and environmental free radicals

Propanediol ~2–5%Proven

A plant-derived (corn fermentation) humectant and solvent that acts as a lightweight alternative to glycerin. Enhances moisture retention, improves ingredient solubility, and contributes to the pleasant, non-sticky texture of this serum. Also provides mild preservative boosting properties.

  • Source: Bio-based, derived from corn sugar — biodegradable and sustainable
  • Comedogenic Rating: 0 — completely non-pore-clogging
  • EWG Score: 1
Preferred over propylene glycol — better skin feel, skin-identical, and more sustainably sourced from renewable plant materials.

11 ingredients — Aqua, Citrus Grandis Fruit Water, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Pentylene Glycol, 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, Bisabolol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Bioflavonoids, Brassica Oleracea Italica Extract, Propanediol

How to use

HOW TO USE
1

Cleanse Thoroughly

Begin with a gentle cleanser to remove impurities, sunscreen, and makeup. Pat your skin dry with a clean towel — a clean canvas helps actives absorb more effectively.

2

Apply Toner (Optional)

If using a hydrating or balancing toner, apply it first and allow it to absorb before moving on. This step boosts hydration and prepares the skin barrier for the serum.

3

Dispense 3–4 Drops

Shake the bottle gently before use. Dispense 3 to 4 drops of the serum onto your fingertips or directly onto your face. A little goes a long way with this concentrated formula.

4

Press & Massage into Skin

Apply to the face, neck, and décolleté using gentle pressing and upward circular motions. Avoid the immediate eye area. Allow 30–60 seconds to fully absorb before the next step.

5

Follow with Moisturiser

Lock in the serum's active ingredients with your preferred moisturiser. This helps seal in the hydrating ingredients and creates a protective barrier.

6

Apply SPF (Morning Routine)

If using in the morning, always finish with a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher. Vitamin C serums work synergistically with sunscreen — together they offer superior UV protection compared to either alone.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ

Yes — the Daytox Vitamin C Serum is considered safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It contains no retinoids (Retinol, Retinyl Palmitate, Tretinoin), salicylic acid (BHA), hydroquinone, or chemical sunscreen filters — the main ingredients to avoid during pregnancy. Both Vitamin C derivatives used (Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate and 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid) are considered safe topically during pregnancy. As always, we recommend consulting your midwife or obstetrician before adding any new skincare product to your routine during pregnancy.

Yes — the Daytox Vitamin C Serum is fully fungal acne safe. The formula contains no fermented ingredients, fatty acid esters (like Polysorbate 20/80), oils, butters, or polysorbates that are known to feed Malassezia yeast. All 11 ingredients have been reviewed and none are linked to triggering or exacerbating fungal acne. This makes it one of the most suitable brightening serums available for those prone to fungal acne.

Yes, with some considerations. Because Daytox uses stable Vitamin C derivatives (SAP and 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid) rather than pure L-Ascorbic Acid, it is much more compatible with other actives. It pairs well with niacinamide — stable derivatives do not form the niacin flush reaction that can occur with pure Vitamin C. You can layer this serum with AHAs or BHAs, but apply them at different times of day (Vitamin C in the morning, exfoliating acids in the evening) to minimise potential irritation. With retinol, use this serum in the morning and retinol at night for best results.

The Daytox Vitamin C Serum works across all skin types, but is particularly excellent for oily, combination, sensitive, and acne-prone skin. Its lightweight, water-based texture is non-comedogenic (rating 1/5) and won't add shine or clog pores. The fragrance-free, minimal formula is ideal for reactive or sensitive skin. Dry skin types benefit from the hydrating ingredients but may want to follow with a richer moisturiser. It is one of the few Vitamin C serums equally well-suited to all skin types including the most reactive.

Most users notice improved hydration and a fresh, more radiant glow within the first 1–2 weeks of consistent daily use. Visible brightening and skin tone improvement typically become apparent after 3–4 weeks. For reduction of established dark spots, post-acne marks, or sun hyperpigmentation, allow 6–8 weeks of consistent use. Optimal collagen-stimulating and anti-ageing benefits accumulate over 3+ months of continuous use. Results are gradual and cumulative — consistency is key with all Vitamin C derivative serums.

Apply this serum after cleansing and any toner, and before your moisturiser and sunscreen. The general rule for serums is thinnest-to-thickest texture. As this is a lightweight watery serum, it goes on before thicker serums, moisturisers, and oils. The recommended routine: (1) Cleanser → (2) Toner (optional) → (3) Daytox Vitamin C Serum → (4) Moisturiser → (5) Sunscreen (morning only). For best results, use in the morning so the antioxidant protection works in tandem with your SPF throughout the day.

No — the Daytox Vitamin C Serum has a very low comedogenic rating of 1 out of 5. None of the 11 ingredients in this formula are known pore-cloggers. The lightweight, water-based formulation with Propanediol and Pentylene Glycol (both rated 0 for comedogenicity) is specifically designed to absorb without leaving a heavy residue. It is suitable for acne-prone and congestion-prone skin types with a very low risk of causing or worsening breakouts.

The Daytox Vitamin C Serum has a Period After Opening (PAO) of 12 months. This means once you open the bottle, use it within one year for guaranteed potency and safety. To maximise shelf life, store the bottle away from direct sunlight and heat — the dark glass bottle provides additional protection. Using 3–4 drops per application once or twice daily, a 30 ml bottle typically lasts approximately 3–4 months of daily use, well within the 12-month PAO window.

— Skincarisma verdict
4.3 / 5 ★★★★☆

Verdict: The Daytox Vitamin C Serum is an excellent choice for skincare enthusiasts who prioritise clean, minimal, and transparent formulations without sacrificing efficacy. By combining Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate and 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid in a fragrance-free, 11-ingredient formula, Daytox delivers stable Vitamin C brightening that's gentle enough for sensitive, acne-prone, and pregnant skin — a rarity in the crowded Vitamin C serum category. Made in Germany to high pharmaceutical-grade standards and Dermatest certified, this serum punches above its weight as a clean beauty alternative. The main trade-off is potency: those seeking aggressive anti-ageing from high-dose L-Ascorbic Acid should look to specialist options like SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic, while value-seekers who want a stable, gentle, and skin-inclusive Vitamin C daily serum will find Daytox to be a genuinely compelling, trustworthy choice.

Ever used a product that promised a certain effect but provided no results? It might not have contained any notable ingredients that could have been responsible for that promised effect. It doesn't matter what the marketing or packaging «promises» it can do, if it doesn't contain anything that can help - then the likelihood of it helping is low.

lightbulb What is the Ingredient Safety Breakdown?

Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.

muscle Pro Tip Alert!

EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
