No ingredient known to feed Malassezia, the yeast behind fungal acne — the same screen as our fungal acne checker. Ferments and fatty alcohols, which the checker marks “possible”, are allowed. Product not here? Check it yourself — paste its ingredient list.
None of the UV filters banned or restricted for coral reefs — oxybenzone, octinoxate, octocrylene, 4-MBC. “Reef-safe” is not a regulated claim; this is a check of the ingredient list.

Fungal acne (Malassezia folliculitis) is driven by a yeast that feeds on fatty acids and the oils, butters, esters, polysorbates and lecithin made of them. A product is on this list only when none of its ingredients is one of those triggers — the same screen as our fungal acne checker, applied to the full ingredient list rather than the label claim. Ferments, fatty alcohols (cetyl, cetearyl) and squalene, which the checker marks “possible”, do not exclude a product.
No. A fungal-acne safe product only avoids feeding the yeast. Fungal acne itself is treated with antifungals such as ketoconazole or clotrimazole, usually on a doctor's or pharmacist's advice; these sunscreen are what to use alongside without making it worse.
None of the UV filters that Hawaii, Key West, Palau and other reef regions have banned or restricted is in the ingredient list: oxybenzone (benzophenone-3), octinoxate (ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate), octocrylene and 4-methylbenzylidene camphor. The term is not regulated, so this is a check of the list, not a certification. The mineral sunscreens list is the stricter choice if you want no organic filters at all.
